Andrew List wrote and directed a fan-made Superman film by the name of Superman: Solar. And it's uh.. yeah it's not great... Some of the VFX were cool ... but uh... yeah... sorry Andrew....
*DISCLAIMER: This video is not an excuse to bully or harass people involved with the creation of this film. This video was made for entertainment purposes and there is no hatred or malicious intent toward any of the creators involved. I hope they continue with their passions no matter what.
Ok.
I really don't understand their choice of actor. Superman has never, to my knowledge, looked like a seventh grade algebra teacher.
Dude looks like the SUBSTITUTE, eff that 😹
They tried to do the adorable, loveable nerdy Clark awkwardness, only to end up with just pure awkwardness.
This feels like an ai movie. Like even supermans actor doesn’t look real in many areas due to terrible shading
Haha yeahhh, that lighting, especially during the fight scene left a lot to be desired 😅
That was such an experience. I feel like that could've been actually good if there was a good budget and possibly better direction team/acting
There's absolutely something there! I think with the right editors, someone could've cleaned up this movie A LOT, but that acting is rough 😬
Dharr Man: Superman special episode.
holy shit, that's so accurate
I was just about to say that it feels like dharr man
*Sameer Bhavnani
That opening with the news anchor guy has got to have the most botched and misinterpreted concept I've ever seen.
The idea is not "You're not a hero unless you are actively sacrificing yourself!", it's "Being *willing* to sacrifice yourself for the greater good is what makes you a hero."
The reason that The Death of Superman is such an iconic piece of media (aside from the obvious) is that, while Superman had never been faced with an enemy as strong as Doomsday before, he was undeterred from fighting to the death for the people he cared for. His unflinching courage showed that he always had it in him to risk everything for the world he loved. The news anchor guy makes it sound like he couldn’t be a hero *until* he died. Wtf??
100%! A complete misunderstanding of the source material. And not to nitpick more... But the News Anchor says "We pay police officers to run into burning buildings!" And uh... I'm pretty sure those are firefighters 😂
Never ask Superman Solar's Superman what Pa Kent was doing on January 6, 2021
I love that Lois looks like a soccer mom and Clark has a reciding hairline 😆
Superman solar makes Spider Man Lotus look like a masterpiece
Let's be real It's trash vs garbage the only reason this is better is cause it's way shorter & Solar at least tries to change the tone, unlike Lotus which just has all the characters being mad & sad the entire movie.
Blud thinks he’s DCAU Superman.
4:22 No, we dont call police officers to run into burning buildings. Thats what the fire department is for. 😂😂😂
So nobody was around to proof read/fact check the script?? Smh 😂😂
I actually really like the creator of this. A List makes some really great fan trailers, but yah overall as a director and writer he needs practice which is what this is. I’m glad he made it, but I’m also glad I don’t have to watch it again. Hopefully he’ll learn from this and try again and again, and get better every time.
Directive and technical problems aside. I can appreciate the narrative. A lot of people forget what makes Superman a great hero. His humility. He has god like power but can level with someone that is contemplating a perma-nap. Even him saying he wont stop the guy shows that he doesn't want to impose his will on another. It basically exemplifies why and how superman is the hero that he is.
I definitely like the idea behind what he was going for too! I know I joked about Superman telling him to kys, but it was more of how the actor portrayed it than the idea itself. 😂
@@SkorgeSlaps no it wasn't
Yikes
I will say however, this was a truly unbiased and good review.
I’m not joking when I say that this would be great to teach film students on what not to do in a film. Like every single aspect of filmmaking is wrong to the point were it feels intentional.
Like the title should’ve been shown after the opening montage, instead having a jump cut in an inappropriate moment.
It’s not the worst movie ever made, but if there was a textbook definition for a poorly made film, this is it.
Try that in a Smallville
Watching ur 20 minutes is more entertaining than the 30 minutes of the show
Haha thank you! 😅
0:15 Man I was so ready for him to say Gavin J. Konop 💀
I don't like punching fan-films even a little, I respect folks out there trying to show their passion for their favorite franchises and filmmaking, and making stuff like this with limited resources is nothing short of a challenge..... but good lord, this really is bad even for fan-film standards, color correction, compositing and even the framing of so many shots are below the level of a student film, it's genuinely baffling
Superman Solar feels like The Room. Then again, I can squeeze enjoyment outta The Room.
Why tf is Supes so...horribly preformed? The acting all around is dookie but my god they did Clark dirty
This movie’s got them Ezra Flash VFX
I always thought that Clark was a klutz because Supes actually is a bit of a klutz. He’s lived a sheltered life, and he’s an actual ALIEN so ordinary life probably does seem strange.
I think the choice of making the rooftop scene take place at night wasnt the best. It’s clear the comping in general hasn’t been great, but they could’ve achieved this practically. Even js on a parking garage.
This should be a Homelander movie.
It all looks like a porn parody 😅
The acting is terrible and the writing isn't much better, but compared to what Max Landis has done in the realm of superhero fan films, this looks like a masterpiece. As someone who's played Superman a fair amount with voice acting, I can tell what he's going for (Christopher Reeve, not Andrew Garfield. Chris would have made that stammering Clark dialogue work) and failing hard at. I went more the Bud Collyer route, as what I do is more like radio and I loved that old radio show. The worst thing to me is he's stealing a very famous modern comics scene where Clark talks down a jumper, but while that works great as a few pages, he's butchering it for this film.
Actually I think Max landis fanflims might be a bit better atleast in the acting department at least there trying to show emotion
BTW I like your videos keep them up
The reason people compare it to Lotus is because the writer is a qanon guy and the director is a klansman.
This review was so Fuckin funny I had to subscribe
Ayee, thanks! 🙌
7:53 Now there's a quotable for modern entertainment. And while a lot of media that was once hated is now finding a second life through irony or nostalgia, I'm feeling like a good portion of the latter '10s and the 2020s are gonna be better forgotten.
P.S. oh my goodness the dialogue sounds like an entire Xanax prescription
So does this feel like the boy who collects superman to anyone else? Yes i know that's a Spider-Man comic. That's my point.
Damn just damn 😭 8:03
Man I can’t believe I was almost casted in this movie. Glad I wasn’t
Why didn’t he just tell the kid his name is “Kal” or “Kal El” wouldn’t have been lying and would still be personal without risking his secret identity getting out lol
I don't want to sound too mean but Cark/Superman's actor is so incredibly emotionless. At least from the footage you've shown, this portrayal of the character talks and acts like a robot. He's got negative charisma.
That’s the worst part 😂 he’s sooooo stoic that his lines are robotic.
9:19 This scene could work better if it was just rewritten a smidge.
(Clark introduces himself)
Matt: You know I could tell the whole world, right?
Clark: Well, I suppose you *could* yell it out as you’re falling… But then again, the horrified screams of the people you’d be traumatizing would most likely drown you out.
Matt: 😨
Clark: 🤷🏼♂️
Matt: I didn’t really think about that… But you know what? They don’t have to *watch* .
Clark: And *you* don’t have to *jump* .
I thought firemen ran into burning buildings not cops
What is the most underrated fan film
Bro coming in here with a 2011 camera. Classic youtube. You love to see it
12:37 Dude looks like a PS4 tech demo and acts like he's in NBA 2k15
That’s a first, everybody else has loved it
The sound mixing, or lack there of, as well as the lighting, or again lack there of, was just bad. The dialogue felt choppy and the acting was robotic. The story was ok, but would’ve been so much better if the other elements had be met to a higher standard
Also, you clearly didn't listen to the scene about him explaining the fight, he wasn't saying he lied to the kid, he was saying he was bluffing and got through that fight though he didn't know if he'd win or not.
Haha I did catch that! I just couldn't pass up the opportunity for the joke haha I really appreciate your comments tho and I'm glad you enjoyed the video!!
@@SkorgeSlaps I had a feeling about that...being that you skipped the scene and that the joke WAS freaking hilarious...
Any fan-films you guys would suggest I watch next?
Street Fighter Legacy
Batman Dying Is Easy. Actually pretty strong quality.
Bro looks like seth mcfarlane
HOLY CRAP, HE DOES. I can't believe I didn't make that connection this whole time 😂
3:30 is that Chuck Testa? 😂😂😂
I tried watching it and couldn't get into it. The suit's cool I guess, the effects are okay, but the actor for Superman just isn't it, and I know it's a fan film but it seems like it was made on a budget of 4 quid and a packet of haribo.
The audio was also so weird. It looks and sounds like it was dubbed over.
this film feels like a pureflix Superman film and that's not a compliment the actor for Superman is not great it would have been a bit better if it was an alienated Superman but this film version of Superman isn't meant to be that so yea btw I think the writer and the director Are a Qanon and Trump supporter respectively although im not sure how true that is
4:06 i fucking lost it 😂
12:50 I don’t like saying this usually, but I could genuinely have done this shit better. Like 100%. And I’m not an actor.
man its 2023 did they shot this in samsung galaxy S1 or something? coz even a little iphone gives you cinematic aesthetic shots
I oddly enjoyed this one more than Lotus..in a sort of "seagal" / neil breen type of way, its bad enough for me to pick it apart enjoyably..Lotus was NOT fun to watch at all, and the problem with lotus is that there are some geniunely good direction, and moments...in an otherwise terribly mid film that makes two hours feel like forever..
edit: Okay, I kinda actually like this one genuinely more than Lotus..I feel like, the director should remake this again..writing could use work but i get the message..and honestly, I think its more superman than Man of Steel ever was..that being said, its definitely not a great movie but its still earnest and made with good faith rather than spite
I liked the film
Hey skorge! long time no see 😉 haha do you remember me? btw that superman looks like a sheldon
Snowden meets the leader.
Hey Skorge! I recently dropped a Superman fan-film of my own. Feel free to give it a roast! It’s based on Superman: Red Son.
It is pretty damn bad 😂 I just watched it with Akasan and I laughed that entire time lmao
His chat lit this thing up. The acting is very bad. Effects are pretty dope! That’s the best part. But other than that? It’s god awful
Man’s eyes in the thumbnail looks like he has seen hell…stay safe stay awesome.
Btw be glad u didn’t watch the super man movie where it’s set in RUSSIA and US. Weird one
Might have to look into that one... 👀 😂
@@SkorgeSlapsI’d suggest reading the comic. Far better. Superman: Red Sun.
This movie was a waste of time. All he does is talk a child out of jumping. That's it
MoS and BvS slander at the start🗿
What happened is he tried to adapt an All Star Superman comic. #10 I think. Whiffed it so hard. PU
I don't care how "bad" it is, these type of things are labors of love. Been following fanfilms since Freddy vs Ghostbusters, Return of the Ghostbusters, and the early bat-in-the-sun stuff. Some great Friday the 13th, some great Scooby Doo, some AMAZING Star Trek....
It's okay to break the 180° rule, big professional films do it all the time, but they're never as jarring as whatever this film did
Lmao it’s not “okay”. Directors and editors try to avoid it at all costs..movies are reworked last minute sometimes because of that. It confuses people who’re invested in the scene. Professional films may do it…but it’s not ok…
This is one of those so bad it’s good types of films.
Think I might pop it on every 4th of July 👌
Clark looks like someone who shouldn't be near children or schools.
It looks like a Christian movie.
So what
The movie was ASS
I couldn’t even get through 10 minutes. Superman requiem is just as bad if not worse.
I haven't heard of that one but curiosity is probably gonna get the best of me 😂
This review is funnit af. Great review! Please do one on Spider-Man Lotus its also shit lmaoo
haha thank you so much! and I'm actually watching it as we speak 👀 lol expect a video soon!
Lmao i can't take fan films seriously
I actually thought it was very good and this is why...for the most part...
Superman is an alien, a social awkward alien...nothing he says comes off naturally because...he's not natural.
Superman is helping people go through every day life issues and he sees himself because he's failing to get a job but he's not giving up, no matter how bad of a human "actor" he is he's trying to live normal life as well...just the iceberg really but yeah, I think there's a point.
That's no excuse for him to have dul acting like Gal Gadot with the same dialogue that Homelander would say. It's just cringe.
@@brandonspain12345 I'm glad we're two different people with different opinions. Makes all the sense in the world to me.
@@skyebynes612 "All the wooden acting is perfectly good because it's just my shitty-ass opinion and totally not biased." 🤓
@@brandonspain12345 ... Please, out of respect don't quote things I don't say, secondly, I don't know the actor so...yeah, everyone's different, we all see things differently...so kindly chill with the attitude, not here to argue, just dropping what I thought about the art, not about everyone's opinion.
He’s an alien that was raised amongst earthlings. He considers himself a participant and member of society as much as he considers himself it’s protector. He’s grown up with compassionate and empathetic parents. He’s had schooling and love interests. Yes, there’s occasionally a little social awkwardness inherent with Clark. But as Superman, he’s truly supposed to embody the best of humanity in every way. Socially, compassionately, physically. Superman is the personification of everything everyone would ever hope to be.
This is just bad acting tbh. *Some* of the lines aren’t awful per se. But they’re *all* delivered very robotically. Not just Superman, the entire cast.
Im first
This isn't funny or informative, and you come across as a hater. But, thanks to you, I know this exists. So... thanks?
I'm sorry you felt that way watching it. I know I really exaggerated the "It's bad" angle, but I felt that I genuinely found things I liked in it, and tried to point them out when I did, like the Smallville townsfolk, and the Tornado scene, while also giving examples of how a scene could have possibly been done better. No hatred towards the creators or anything like that, it's just poorly filmed. It has a lot of heart and I do wish I would've said that at the end because I meant to add that onto my ending monologue about the dogpile the director's been getting on twitter. But I appreciate you checking out the video and I hope to see more from the creators of this in the future!
That shit was ass.Brody was spot on with it being bad.Makes Spider-Man LOTUS seems like it was directed by Christopher Nolan
