Rowan! Your camerawork and editing are exemplary! I’m also continually amazed at the fact you don’t ruin everything by needing to talk over such wonderful footage. Thank you for letting the railroad do the narration! Your videos are a great pleasure to watch. Thanks for giving a crippled shut-in a window on this exciting subject.
Absolutely, and thank you SO MUCH! I'm sorry for any times I have talked, I struggle to find the balance between explaining what's happening to the non-railfan and as you say' " letting the railroad speak for itself".
I'm encouraged that you see and appreciate this balance, because it's difficult to maintain as a creator! So glad you have the ability to enjoy it despite your condition, I pray the Lord's healing over you and that you are able to be as mobile as possible!
That's right kids, always rewind your train when your finished.
Two beautiful steamers at work, working together, easily among the best steam doubleheaders of all time! And their whistles, truly lovely!
#2102 has the perfect whistle to hear throughout the mountains
Hey, if you're an N&W fan you just know hooter whistles and mountains go together perfectly!
Same as 425
I was there! With my mother, in car number 308, 5th from the engine. I got covered in soot and Ash as I hung out the window and listened to the sound that only steam can provide. This was an amazing day. It was truly magical. Thank you Andy muller, and thank you Reading Northern railroad
I'm trying to imagine just how good that must have been and I can't!
@@7822welshsteam I don't want to rub it in, but OMG the run by in Jim Thorpe! I was 7 feet from the locomotives as they came by, valves open and whistles screaming.
@@mikeggg5671 Sounds incredible!
2102 and 425 doubleheaded together once again after almost four decades. It was truly spectacular.
Absolutely incredible footage. Wow! What a sound!! I couldn't have contained myself if I'd been there! I have an old VHS of 2102 on a coal train, which I still watch occasionally. It has always been one of my favourite engines in the world, as 425 has also become more recently. Absolutely fantastic to see her back in steam. I shall have to make the trip over the pond to see her. Greetings from the UK!
Great video my brother. You brought a smile to this old man's face.
So glad Louis, that's my goal!
We rode on July 2 and went to Jim Thorpe yesterday, August 13, to see 2102 with some friends that had never seen it. I didnt know a double header was going on. What a pleasant surprise. We got way more than we bargained for. I also met Ross Rowland whose career I've followed since at least the 70s with NKP 759 on Erie-Lackawanna. Spectacular day. Andy Muller sure know how to run a railroad! We cannot thank him enough for all he's done for the railfan community and everyone else who enjoys riding his trains.
I worked with the High Iron Co. in the 1970's while I was a tower man with the Erie-Lackawanna. I was a trainman on most of the steam excursions behind NKP 759. Lots of fun and Ross was a good guy to work for. Spent my free time at Lebanon, NJ working on the passenger equipment stored there. Now retired 9 years from NJ Transit as a conductor.
As usual Rowan, your video was great. Thanks, not only for the content, but also the quality of all of your videos. Looking forward to the next one.
Looking forward to seeing this! The IG teaser was good and funny at the start 😂😂😂
I dont know about anyone else, but that whistle show before departing gave me chills😳
425 is absolutely stunning to me. Thanks for sharing!
It was a great day man. I was there as well chasing it all day long. I got so many photos and videos. It was good. So glad you made it to this event!
Those echoes at 8:47 are just spine chilling. Great work!
Incredible right!?
Last time I was to Jim Thorpe was as a trainman with the High Iron Co. in the 1970's behind the NKP 759. Great coverage as always.
Awesome video Rowan! It was nice being able to meet you again
Fantastic coverage Rowan.
Stunning footage Rowan, one of your best! Particularly loved the manoeuvre at Jim Thorpe junction. Greetings from the UK. Jeff
Omg they both got reading 6 chimes thats the best part if the double header
My late father is hearing this in heaven Music to both of our ears
Excellent camera work, Rowan!
I particularly liked the shot at the beginning when 2102 was leaving the station and showing the mechanics of the wheels moving forward.
Excellent job!
Thanks man! I saw that and had to shoot that real quick! Glad you noticed! Thanks for watching!
That was cool, nothing like a locomotive it just needs a caboose. Enjoyed!
Hahaa
Just awesome video work. Great nostalgic experience watching this one. The drone shots add to the wow factor. Loved every minute of this one. ❤
Thanks as always James, great seeing you again in Fostoria!!
@@RailfanRowan Likewise and the drive to Fostoria was under 2 hours for me. Never been to Iron Triangle Rail Park before. I'm sure that's probably the closest place to me with that many trains on a daily basis.
What a great video Rowan. Looked like an awesome day. Nothing against all your other videos, but this had to be the best editing so far. Well done! 👍👍👍
Great video, Rowan! The sound of the whistles initially sounding and then the echos coming back were wonderful to hear. Thank you for documenting this beautiful trip to Jim Thorp, Pennsylvania and back to Port Clinton, Pennsylvania.
Cool video nothing like the old steam engines. Thanks Rowan always a great video from you
Thanks for that Sir!!!! Health issues are keeping me home this summer....that was like being there!!! I rode 2102 on the then C&O Greenbrier branch in the 1970's. GREAT footage. Dave
Very sorry about the issues, so glad I could capture it as seen! And serve it up to you!
Feels like steam excursions in the 1980’s all over again!
This is what Real Railroading is ALL about. Can you Imagine 🤔 what the Crews had to do back in the day ? NO push button consoles. 😬👍
That's correct, engine HOSTLING was the name of the game
Fantastic work Rowan! The comments about your increasing skill in filming and editing are spot on. This is a beauty. I wonder what it would look like in black and white!
Ha, that would certainly be cool! I should try that with some footage!
There was no way I was missing out on this Iron Horse Rambles, I got to ride in the Cab of 425 en route to Jim Thorpe, and I got to ride in RBM&N 5018 for the remainder of the trip once the steam engines were removed. All we need now is NKP 765 to join the fun in Pennslyvania.
Now that's what I call a train whistle... like the engine is barking out: "Hey, can you hear me now? Here I am!" And a double-header steam locomotive in amazing colors too. We counted 19 cars full of thrilled passengers. Wishing we were on board. Great video Rowan, thanks very much! Always - Liked and Subscribed.
Thanks Bart for being LOYAL hope to have many more fun videos soon!
Great shots man!
Thank you!!
Good seeing you Rowan Awesome stuff.
An excellent video. I did read in Trains magazine that 2102 would be with 425 this season.
Miller's crossing was my favorite shot both big beautiful engines blowing their different whistles, it's majestic
I agree!!
Way to go! I saw him Yesterday
Holy Shit . Ur best video yet. Awesome whistle .and they know how to do an excursion right. By having the old school cars that allow open windows
Never i have seen the day wherr these two double head. First time seeing it
Amazingly done my friend! I had a great time yesterday chasing that thing! but then I decided to chase the diesels north instead because of how long the traffic was in Molino! But I did chase it south when ever i upload the video it you wanna watch it! Have an awesome day god bless you my friend!

That would be cool!
Excellent video 👍👍👍
Thanks;
2102 has almost of a loud stack talk like 425 at full throttle climbing up hill
O 2102 também é um dos meus favoritos do 425 também 🚂😀
Wow! What a sight, the locos, vintage stock, length of train and the sound was just magic. Thank you for sharing with us in the UK.
Thanks for watching frim the UK!
Great meeting you in Elkins the other week! Amazing stuff :)
Thanks Cinema, hope you and the female are making safe travels! 👏🏻
Greetings, Rowan, from a brand new subscriber to your channel and someone so looking forward to experiencing the Reading and Northern in October (with a bunch of still cameras!).
This is, by far, the best video I've seen of this exemplary operation. I particularly loved your low angles combined with tele-compressed perspective - really thrilling to see such techniques on the running gear of the 2102 as she gets down to business at Port Clinton. Bravo!
Thank you Steve, I really appreciate the compliments on my style of videography. I sometimes wonder if it's enjoyable or if it translates to the viewer! I strive to be like no other thank you!!
Great Video Rowan wanted to see that but I am at the Beach. Also I can't make it to the Rally on Wednesday. But on the bright side I am riding 2102 on October 1st.
Oooh that's awesome!
@@RailfanRowan It sure will be!! Hope your Job at NS is going well.
I saw your drone when I was there XD
Wow A great video Rowan. So much to like about steam, from the whistle echoing through the valley to just hearing it "breathe" sitting idle. And I liked seeing the SD50s helping it through the wye too.
awesome & Amazing videos
Thank buddy!
Wow! Great video Rowan! You picked your spots and camera angles perfectly!
I LOVED that whistle symphony at the beginning and could swear I smelled the coal smoke!
What a day for you, and thanks for bringing us along! 🤩
You're welcome, I was quite pleased with the angles, of course, I can't know how they turn out until the editing phase! But it was ab excellent day
Nice! I saw you at the wye I was one of the last people to show up before they came to run around
That's cool! Thanks for coming!
Hey! There’s me at 5:21.
Great Catch Bro
2102 & 425 doubleheader on a Saturday Afternoon love the sound of both reading 6 chime whistles
I'm glad You enjoyed your Saturday with your buddies to chase the doubleheader on your weekend.
Rowan, I have some sad news
I'm went to Coeburn VA Lonesome Pine Raceway last night Tim O Quinn
Said this is the final race, the last race, and the last Saturday Night Racing in the mountains of Southwest Virginia they are shutting down lonesome pine raceway after the race, and they are closing it's doors for the last time at Virginia's legend Racetrack in Wise County Southwest Virginia and I waved the Green Flag for the last time of my 20 Years of Coeburn VA's #1 race fan.
Bro, if you go to Coeburn, VA you might see the Racetrack of the 3/8th mile oval that she bought Race Fans to come to the pines raceway to have their Saturday Nights In the mountains of Southwest Virginia
Rowan when will you be down I Thomasville next I’m a railfanner from there and I would love to know if we could meet each other! Been a fan for the last 4 3 years! BEST VID YET!
Thanks brother, hey man, stay tuned to the channel for where I'm coming to next;
Tysm for making my day every time you upload a Video Rowan! TGBTG
TGBTG thanks for watching!!
Great video. That engine is awesome.
Thanks man!
Great shots it was nice meeting you there
Do you think the 2102 will go on tour around the Reading system?
Mr.rowan the 6 chime was loud
A great video with outstanding editing!!!!
Thanks Richard!
Nice video Rowan! I saw this too but I wish I saw you.
Catch me next time!
I will try lol
Great video Rowin. Great sound in it to. But weird at 13:30, can't hardly hear the whistle but sure can hear the chuffing...
That's right!! Funny mic and echoes
@@RailfanRowan Exactly!
Reading & Northern SD50-2 5019 is an ex CSX,SCL,SBD
Hey Rowan I have a 1940s reading lines Railroad spike that I bought off eBay
Nice catch!!! Was that a one time thing or are they gonna do it more
Most likely one time thing, but they could run more. Although 425 has to go down for a rebuild after this year, so they're time to do another one is limited.
Oh ok
Will they also be doing the doubleheader with 2102 and 425 on September 3rd? Or will it just be 2102?
I noticed that they both have the same exact whistle note and I don’t know if they liked 425s whistle so much they made a copy for 2102
Is quite possible!
Crazy how different the whistles sound and there’s not a huge difference in boiler pressure between them.
Does anyone else wonder if 2102 and 425 switched whistles? 😏
hey rowan! ive been trying to get on ACTSM but it wont accept me, any help?
I didn't know 2102 has 2 whistles
Yep, freight and passenger style! Older whistles had different pitches so that train crews that weren't visually seeing the train knew what was pulling in...
Hard to see when you're working down in between two tracks full of rail cars!!
To this day, our freight trains on Norfolk Southern still ring the bell when they pass through yard limits on the main line!
I didn't ask this when we were aboard. Are both locomotives wearing Redding six chime whistles?
I don't know, you should ask THE Piedmont District Railfan that question! He would know
What is your favorite heritage until
