On August 13th, 2022, The Reading, Blue Mountain & Northern Railroad decided to run a steam double header for that dates Iron Horse Ramble excursion. In what is possibly the only double header before 425 goes down at the end of the year for her mandated 15-year inspection and rebuild, both the 2102 and 425 put on an impressive display of what steam power was capable of back in the heyday. Enjoy the action =)
Due to the logistics of running a steam double header on the R&N, the steamers were cut off the train on the return run at Port Clinton shops, where a pair of diesels took over and powered the train the rest of the way back to Reading Outer.

Seeing them blast out of Port Clinton at 4:53 literally had my jaw on the floor. This is such good footage. These engines are something else 🔥🔥
The Blue Beauty and the mighty T-Hog. These locomotives are the definition of the Loudest Locomotives in North America
The Readings Pride and Joy!
It's been 30 something years in the making but it's finally here at last.

2100 ran until 2008.
This is also the day of Andy Muller Jr that it was his 75th birthday. Him and his family were on board the train that day.
At least steam is finally making a comeback
Well done!! We rode on Saturday and I've watched a number of these videos. This is the best one I've seen so far, Thanks!
Awesome, that’s the second time these two double head since back in 1987-88 on the BM&R Railroad.
4:04 might just be my favorite shot in any railfanning video ever; you can really feel the speed and power of these mighty locomotives from that ground level perspective.
Good stuff my guy ;3
The locomotives aren’t even really working there. A better spot would be somewhere on hometown hill.

I’m so happy I could attend this special event! This was absolutely spectacular! And you know what. Even if I did spend a good 30 minutes getting a single cinder out of my eye it was worth it!
Awesome video of 2102 and 425!
Reading northern 2102 they should put the old reading 6 chime whistle on it from 1985 through 1991 I think that was the best whistle it ever wore
I was in the 5th car from the front with my mom!
I think 425 might also be planned for at least one more excursion before overhaul. Nevertheless, this was a sight to behold!
Both Strasburg 90 and R&N 425 altogether are both going for their overhauls after this year is over from what I heard, but hopefully they’ll be back soon after their 1472 FRA Day Inspections.
425 will be pulling her last two excursions, both Fall Foliage, on November 5th and 6th.
Hi hi fan railer I really love this doubleheader 😀😀😀
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
They should keep her in the reading northern paint livery for rest of her career
25:14 did anyone else notice the leaves hanging on the side of 425?
I survived: the Iron Horse Rampage of 2022
Is 2102 doing most of the pulling?
For the most part yes. There are a few instances on the grades where 425 is assisting in keeping up the speed, but on the level when she's not needed, they've got her set with a drifting throttle.
Some people question why Reading 425's whistle is much higher in pitch than Reading 2102's. It is that Reading 425 is using its Southern Railway 5 chime Step Top Whistle it used for the 2016 Fall Foliage Excursion it sounds similar to the Reading 6 chime, but it is much more shrill and was commonly used on the Southern Railway's heavy Pacific Locomotives.
Sorry, but the 425 is also wearing a flat top reading 6 chime, as is the 2102.
@@FanRailer Interesting it just seems that 425's is slightly out of tune
the 425 is wearing its original Reading 6 whistle from when she made her first public appearance in 2007 after overhaul. Last time she had this whistle was 2016 during a Gorge excursion iirc.
Nope. 2102 is carrying Duke Fredricksons Reading G1 whistle. 425 one of the other Reading Chimes. Barely any Reading 6 chime is exactly the same. I know of only 2 that are even close that survive. Each was made in the Readings shops and in typical Reading practice each was made differently there was no standard lengths for each note. Reading had "standards" to a point but gave employees flexibility and allowed them to play around with improvements. According to several late shopmen one G3 whistle was a 7 chime but it's unknown if it survived.
@@steamgent4592 So each Reading 6 Chime is unique, nice!

@@FanRailerawesome, so it’s perfectly legal to just walk down the powerline trail?
Would the Reading Crusader be back.
I was at the tunnel
Wow this is cool! Also I’m first!
