Wow! The exact sequence of shots as when Bob Foster KO'd Mike Quarry. Almost a carbon copy. Both fighters trying for right hands that missed then a race to that left hook. Charles' got there first and good night Irene. Just as frightening as the Quarry KO too. Ezz was a beast. A beautiful technician and puncher. Would have loved to see him fight Roy Jones at light heavy.
I was just thinking the same thing about this ko and the Foster/Quarry ko...only to me, Charles is just sooo much smoother than Foster! His movement even when he’s not punching and even when he was hurt and holding on, he’s still very smooth. I’m not a fighter, but with both of these ko’s I get the feeling the right hands were missed on purpose. What do you think?
Robinson's left hook on Fulmer was more of a check hook moving backwards. Charles left hook was set up by throwing the right hand then immediately coming back with the hook just like you draw it up in the gym.
It's a common question as to why there are not more films of Marciano. There are a number of possible reasons. Marciano did not have many high profile fights until 1950. Not all were televised or filmed. The earliest that I know of (aside from home movies) is Rex Layne in 1951. TV networks did not always make kinescope copies of their broadcasts, so many fights were lost. Fight films produced for theaters or rebroadcasts were usually cut to fit 25 or 50 minute slots. --FFG

@eric Dubwaaa Unfortunately, many fights in that era and earlier and even later are not available on film. Today, everything can be filmed and saved at very little cost. The first Marciano vs Lastarza split decision win for Rocky over 10 rounds and the Carmine Vingo full fight are 2 bouts I would love to have on video or dvd. Robinson vs Gavilan, full fights of Zale vs Graziano 1 and 2, Greb vs Tunney bouts, etc. Sad, so many great bouts were not recorded even many of them when equipment was available to film them. Just too expensive, I guess. No inexpensive working cameras that could easily be set up to film them.
@@antoniomosley9410 Humphrey Jackson weighed in at 254 pounds when Rocky knocked him out. Just because you are heavy does not mean you are good. In boxing history, a boxer over 180 or 190 is big enough to beat the shit out of much heavier, bigger boxers. Dempsey vs Willard, is an example of a much bigger weight champion and height heavyweightgetting destroyed by the far smaller challenger. I think all boxers in primes, Louis, Holmes, Ali, Foreman would beat Marciano. I would pick Rocky over anyone else. He was a work horse, excellent conditioning, power, and a smartboxer. Very crafty inside giving angles, staying low, throwing to body and head over and over and over.
i love your videos, i still have aspirations of going pro. ots hard to find real trainers and teachers this is beautiful there are gems in all these films that arent just thought today.
I recommend to you, don't stay in the fight game, you could be the greatest fighter in the world for all I know, the damage to your health is more important then the money or the glory, I tell you like a friend
johnny brize It depends man there are many fighters who leave the game unharmed. As long as you listen to your body and be defensively responsible. I think you can make it alright out of boxing. Look at jake lamotta he took beatings in the ring and lived all the way into his 90's.
fightfilms guy, im perplexed why more marciano footage does not exist. im sure his first fight against lastarza was broadcast on tv yet no sign of it? and why do we have rounds 1,4,6,10,15 of marciano-charles I yet no sign of rounds 2,3,11 etc... ?
Jimmy Jacobs and Bill Cayton started buying up every old boxing film they could get their hands on and managed to preserve a lot of what would have otherwise been lost. Those were then edited into shorter summaries for 15 minute television spots which obviously have many shortened rounds and many skipped rounds. It is those shortened versions that gained the widest distribution. In many cases, the full fight footage does still exist but unless someone has a reason to broadcast it, we'll never see it.
Calm, cool, focused even in the middle of a storm of heavy punches by Satterfield a ko artist ; is the brilliant boxer, Ezzard Charles. Greatest light heavyweight that ever lived. Beat the 2 top light heavyweight champions in his era Archie Moore and Joey Maxim EVERYTIME he fought them. Ezzard Charles beat Archie Moore 4 times and Joey Maxim 5 times. Beating both of them at light heavyweight and at heavyweight.
@@wandalandowska3237 SO? lol. Archie Moore NEVER beat Charles, Archie lost every time they fought one another. Multiple times. SAME THING with Maxim. He beat the top two light heavyweight champions of his era every time he fought them. Neve given a chance to fight for light heavy title. He moved up to heavyweight when these two stayed at light heavyweight to win titles. Charles was the best boxer of the three of them at light heavyweight, just like I wrote.
Strange that Charles swings and misses with wide, lunging hooks in round one, and drops a short, clean, effortless hook to finish him in round two. A set up?
@eric Dubwaaa I was suggesting Ezzard might've been helping Satterfield go for broke in a wild firefight so he would open himself for the cleaner shots.
Perfect left hook caught Him coming in.! Double impact no way he was going to get up. To be fair though Charles was a big light heavyweight and Satterfield was a big middleweight. So the good big man won after almost losing himself in the first round.!!! Very exciting fighter Bob Satterfield but lacking defense defense easy to counterpunch 👏🇺🇸😁👍🏻.!!!

Particularly, when he fought at light heavyweight. He fought often and beat everyone including all hall of famers he faced. look at the names of the fighters he beat. If you know boxing, you recognize many of them right away. All the guys he fought were top fighters in those years that he faced. Ezzard Charles was such a beautiful balanced boxer with rare mix of technical skills and power.
that's got to be one of the best fights I've ever seen. Satterfield really pounded Charles in that second round.
amazing fight both guys are great fighters. I love watching the old fights, so much skill the old fighters had
That left hook that ends it is very Robinsonian
to be honest, if you studied his style very carefully he's like a defensive version of Sugar Ray Robinson.
Charles was better than Robinson.
He was like a bigger, taller and more defensive version of Sugar Ray Robinson minus the triple left hooks and unorthodox combinations.
That was a hellacious knockout! You could really hear those last two punches
