    Meet Moxie, a robot designed to promote children’s social, emotional, and cognitive health. This Mental Health Awareness month, due to the unprecedented circumstances, the mental health of our nation is as a perilous point. But while many focus on the adults worried about their livelihoods, health and the economy, we can't lose sight of another vulnerable population and their mental health concerns: kids.
    Childrens' mental health is a legitimate concern, but its difficult to reach kids who may not understand what they are going through. That's why Embodied created Moxie, a robot that uses AI to interpret body language and other signs to encourage positive development of kids social, mental and cognitive health.

      Not all parents. Think of a situation where the kid is in the majority with a cold, unemotional parent and there is only so much the non custodial parent can do.
      But if they were to have one of these, they would actually be able to improve emmotional, conversational, and confidence skills without the presence of the parent who predicates on emotional and mental health.

    This robot is a sad tool for parents who can’t be bothered to raise their own child. I really hope his is not normalized. This will enforce a mentality of “I don’t need to pay attention to my child, my robot can do that for me.” I’m all for mechanization and I do believe robots are the future, but this is going too far. If you can’t be there for your child when he/she is born, then don’t have a child.

    The parents should have greater involvement. I try to be my son’s best friend while still remaining an authority figure and his father. Now days parents are are too concerned about themselves and not with the child they have created. However, I can see this being a helping tool for children who may have autism and are in specific areas of the spectrum.

    ...I mean, the robot can only understand what it is programmed to understand.
    At the end of the day, even if the code is evolving (because it was programmed to) the robot is still acting according to its code. It won't get upset if the kid hits it. It won't lose patience if the kid refuses to listen.
    It can give the illusion of life and understanding, but if it doesn't ever act outside of its code, isn't it just an advanced puppet?
    That being said, it's still really cool. I want one. It is definitely not a substitute for adequate parenting. I just hope that people will be able to translate interacting with the robot with interacting with people. Generally when people see something as a chore (which it likely will be for children forced to use it by their parents), it will bring less enjoyment. Not to mention, the robot will not be the only influence in the child's life. I worry that it could become a sort of crutch too.
    ...maybe I'm thinking too much. I like that there's a toy specifically designed to tackle children's mental health issues.
    Yeah, this reminds me of when kids make imaginary friends. I think it's good and healthy, personally to have a thing outside of yourself that you relate to and that understands you. I don't know.
    I like the idea, but I also feel like it might just be an expensive toy. Fun for the first month or so, stuck at the bottom of the toy box after that.
    Holy mother of Jesus! $1500???
    ...guess we'll stick with the teddy bear.

      @004forever 2 роки тому +1

      Yeah. I would be interested in seeing a study on whether this actually helps kids who have trouble socializing, because I could see it going either way. I think the fact that it’s a robot, and isn’t perfectly human, may be helpful in itself. A kid might have an easier time opening up to a machine than they would opening up to a real person. When I was a kid, I was always worried that I was going to make someone angry or upset when I talked to them, so having something that could literally not get upset would have been nice. That being said, the goal needs to be eventually getting someone to talk to real people more than Moxie, and I would be interested in seeing whether it does that.

    This would be amazing for my niece. My sister had her daughter really young and suffers from depression and while she’s trying to be a good mom she tends to be neglectful in stages. My niece has a personality that radiates energy and enthusiasm and she needs more than my sister can always give and what’s good about Moxie is for kids in situations like these or worse they could have a companion that teaches healthy coping skills, life lessons and has something that would keep them busy to take less focus off of the stresses put on to children who deserve more. Yes all parents should be the one that does these things but we don’t live in a perfect world and I think this robot is a beautiful advancement that could help our children not be so messed up by taking on our unhealed trauma as their own.

    This robot was made after a person became very ill and doing studies. Most of the words this robot says is similar to the things the girl said while very delrius ans incoherent but trying like. Glad to be out of the box and cognition/arm checks since she was very ill and had involuntary movement or thought to have had. And we all know that most companies like this use word play but deemed to be true so the public thinks it is. There are professional robots made similar to this one but not with or while a person was ill. Links to nothing. Not used to or for ( which in a broken down interview it would be liberated but hidden) and not linked to a medicine name.

    Fred Rogers (of Mister Roger's Neighborhood) built the "Make Believe" part of his show around puppets and adults interacting. It was found to be very effective!!! The puppets are "safe". A child can emotionally approach/access the puppet without the same reservations as with peers or adults. Sesame Street has used puppets from the start as well. They do pilots to test episodes before being released. They tried to do one on divorce, where adults gently explained it. Failed! Years later they tried another episode on divorce, this time with a puppet being a child of divorced parents. They approached it by the puppets drawing a picture of their house. This puppet drew two. It worked! The puppet explained divorce. This robot does the same thing.
