Yes... Regardless of what people might say "Robots can't replace real connections" blah blah, why do "real connections" even matter at all if I can be happy with a robot?
I find the "fever" concept interesting. With normal pets, there are ups and downs. You need to be there for them to love you back, you need to take care of them even if you have other things to do. You have to be ready to put down whatever you're doing to help them or fix something they broke. But i feel that nuances your experience with them. They help you emotionally, but you also take care of them. These robotic companions attempt to do the same thing, but so far they're merely flashy Alexas. Pets are unique, they have their own personalities and share memories with you. You get to learn about their quirks and create a mutual bond. I feel the "fever" concept attempts to emulate the responsibility you have as a pet owner, but if you're using EMO as a utility, having such a feature would just be annoying. You can probably just turn it off, and if not, it probably won't hinder any functionality or have any consequences if you don't do anything about it. Because you bought the thing, and you decide how to use it. You're not actually taking care of anything, as its only needs are power and updates, which it gets without any effort. It's really funny how the guy acts at 3:02.. Like, oh no! Our robot is sick! We need to take care of him!!! This is serious!! I think, in the future, robotic pets with advanced AI might replace regular pets in some households. But maybe with the sense of responsibility removed. Because actual consequences for ignoring the needs of your robotic pet, like the robot shutting down, would feel like the company is trying to get money out of you by forcing you to buy their products. And the illusion of needing to be cared for but without consequences would lead to a shallow experience, further encouraging this uncaring behavior. I haven't really seen any AI that really can connect with us on an emotional level yet. Full understanding of language or human-like social intelligence won't happen with the way we're going right now, as we'll hit a roadblock with machine learning, because a proper AI would need to have an understanding of our world, which we kinda need to create for it. But maybe a much simpler personality system for pet-like companions could be possible. We'll have to see. Until then, these experiments with AI pets are intriguing yet still a reminder of how far we are from our supposed goal.
As a lonely person who can't risk another COVID infection, I disagree entirely. This little guy would really brighten my day and give me better companionship than my current cats could. It has some very basic built-in AI (to recognize it's cube, and ledges and to awake to "Vector"), but I think everything else was done on the server side. That same basic platform could be upgraded by adding more smarts on the server side.

I remember finding about cozmo which is basically an old version of emo in dantdm’s videos and it still astonishes that they find more ways to produce an intelligent robot and make it that much more advanced
@@rogierdikkes Digital Dream Labs (The people who bought all of Anki's assets) stated that if their servers ever went down, they will give Vector the Escape Pod feature, which allows it to work without servers and will become open source. Cozmo mainly relies on the app though. My kid has both of them.
There will be some hack that prevents that or Mod. I'm already thinking Raspberry Pie could be used to change it's commands and also run VPN and other components.
I actually prefer the vector. I need something to help me with quick questions and it's just emotional enough to like. This seems like it would be too in your face and it's design is so gimmicky. one example is the movement. Vector has tracks which allow for seamless movement even on carpet or over desk debris. Emo seems cumbersome with it's pivot walk. Not bashing it but there still is a market for assistant AI robots.
Glad to see the comments are sarcastic with the surveillance. Also, in another pov, emo is a coping mechanism that comes with preprogrammed emotions and surveillance from ten aspects of your home. Truly an engineering.

2:15 Dude is looking outside and still asking what the weather is like now. Then EMO shows that it was raining when it was clearly Sunny outside. EMO needs a new weather API.
I mean, it *can* be raining and sunny at the same time. But if one wants to give it the benefit of the doubt, I live in a city that's over 30 km from one edge to another. The "official" weather is whatever is happening at the airport, and that can be very different from what's happening even 10 km away.

If this thing can entertain my cat then I'm sold.
I remember finding about cozmo which is basically an old version of emo in dantdm’s videos and it still astonishes that they find more ways to produce an intelligent robot and make it that much more advanced
Cozmo was a good lesson: don't buy cloud based toys like this. They are EOL pretty fast.
@@rogierdikkes Digital Dream Labs (The people who bought all of Anki's assets) stated that if their servers ever went down, they will give Vector the Escape Pod feature, which allows it to work without servers and will become open source. Cozmo mainly relies on the app though. My kid has both of them.
I have a collector edition cozmo from like 4 years ago, was pretty angry when they said they would be bricked lol

Face detection cameras for your desk neat! I am glad EMO is always watching and listening to me.
Man, the kid in me would absolutely LOVE IT if this same kind of AI set up was used in one of those "robo dog" toys!!!!!
"What's my purpose?"
"You pass butter."
"Oh my god."
"Yeah, welcome to the club, pal."
It is a cute robot though. This would be great to have. I hope you all come out with more like this, and maybe ones that you can customize.
This is basically vector’s face with legs

It talks now and can answer questions.

There will be some hack that prevents that or Mod. I'm already thinking Raspberry Pie could be used to change it's commands and also run VPN and other components.
Of all the ways I can be spied on, this is one of the coolest...
EMO gets angry when he charge the phone on his skateboard charger! That’s cute

Can EMO be used as a security camera as well when you’re not home? That’d be pretty awesome
I don't think so but prob vector is

Emo I think he has a camera, ya maybe some kind of a security camera
it is already spying on you? maybe?
What stops it from being hacked and used to case your house though? It has internet access.

Yesssss
Hope they will outlived me so i dont see how they end their life

I owned vector and i put him back inside the box 2 yrs ago collecting dust.
But let’s be honest vector owner, this is wayyyy better than vector
Vector: *why must you hurt me in this way*
yeah vector got a little old for me quick, no offense to vector. idk where he even is rn. probably under my bed or something dying
I disagree both of them are adorable.

The fact that you are always being watched by a camera just freaks me out , no matter how cute it is.
Don’t worry, your computer has been doing that since Windows 95, “free emails” and now with more precise and sophisticated system your smartphone has follow, even your hourly position
@@RW_CreativeMedia Well bigger companies have more of a reputation to maintain, as people would flip their shit if they were obvious about it. With a smaller company they can just make a profit and then dip
How would you feel about having a home security system? That'd mean you'd be watched by cameras all the time.
I used to have an imaginary friend that looked like this guy. Now he’s real
Even the alarm clock feature is cute
This is actually like an upgraded Furby that is useful lol
There was a time when the government could only dream at a surveillance system like this.

AI with personality & feelings? Why does this feel like the beginning of a robotic apocalypse? 😅
Because you've been trained to feel that by Hollywood at even the slightest hint that robots could become sentient or in any way equal to us. It's an unnecessary self preservation mechanic drilled into us by over imaginative deusche bags who fear everything all the time.
the actual robot apocalypse is already happening - facebook's AI to show you articles that make you more polarised and angry (vax/novax, rep/dem, ...) and breaking harmony
Bruh this is just alexa or siri with a face and legs and a built in personality

......it doesn't have a personality and feelings lmao. It's coding meant to react to certain things in a certain way. And even that is limited to only what all they include in the code that it has to react to.
