This is not new, conservatives have been going against PBS kids for years. Imagine being mad that there are shows out there that teach kids to be kind, respectful, caring and compassionate, and that you can be friends with others even if they may be different in some ways. Maybe that’s the problem, conservatives don’t want their kids to share or be kind to the kid at school with two moms.
Remember when that professional thumb at Fox News tore into PBS for exactly that?

It’s upsetting cuz during a time of a serious educational crisis where children are learning less in schools and actually rotting their brains with the internet, PBS is still so important.
Over my dead body will they mess with PBS! Ever since we went without tv when our black and white broke. Years without a tv, my parents brought home a colored tv and we could get PBS (channel 24)! My world opened up immensely and it's been a love fest ever sense and this year I will be 64!❤
Elmo was the one who asked us how we were doing during a mental health crisis. Did the former guy do that? I don't think so.

They've had it out for PBS from day one. Children's programs that teach the children of the poor and working class for free AND promote inclusion and diversity? Access to the arts for people who could never afford a trip to the Met?Not on their watch.
Not that they would, but I would implore those freaks to watch Mr. Rogers explain to congress in the 80s or early 90s about the importance of public broadcasting ESPECIALLY if they wanna keep with this "won't somebody please think of the children" thing.

Oh, his address to Congress was way earlier than that. He pleaded with them to not cut PBS funding back in 1969. This issue is nothing new.

My family couldn't afford cable so PBS was the channel to watch after school. My favorite was Cyberchase and that is how I learned mathematics in school.

We can't let them do this! I did not have cable back then and you tube didn't exist when I was little so having pbs kids was like a gold mine for me taking pbs kids away from us you might as well ask us to smash our tvs! We all grew up with those shows like arthur and Sesame Street I loved those shows so much that now my brother watches those shows and I rather have him watch pbs kids than other kid shows thats on tv we can not allow for this to happen! 😠 📺❤️
Big fan of “Double Trouble”, the episode that taught me about exponential growth about five years before public school even dared to touch the concept.
Cyberchase came on when I was in 4th grade. By the time I was in middle school I was like, wait I know how to do this from that episode of Cyberchase. My school advertise the show because I was waiting patiently for the first episode to air.
PBS Kids is top tier children's content. Super Why was the reason my younger brother (who's now 13) knew all his letters at 2. Cyberchase taught second grade me things in math that my grade wasn't even learning yet, and The Electric Company taught me phonics in a better way than any of my teachers ever did. Curious George helped my now 6 year old brother learn certain science facts. Our public schools are lacking, parents can't/won't teach their kids anything at home, and UA-cam Kids, while having some good and education content, has a lot of brainrot kid channels mixed in with the good stuff. Kids need PBS Kids more than ever.
Adding to that: Word Girl is a fun superhero/vocabulary show, and Wild Kratts is all about creature facts (featuring power suits that imitate animals and often include protecting animals from recurring antagonistists.
I also learned to read at an early age from Super Why! One of the best channels for kids and I will not take any disagreements
I learned more based on my own trial and error than public school ever could teach me
I could count to 10 in spanish at 2, and don't ask me why, But when I was a toddler i watched basically every show on there, which is why i still love it to this day, and because of politics, And probobally something much bigger, is why kids are taking things like skibidi toilet and other videos wich are only ment to be funny for advantage.
These are the same people who tried to cancel Mr Rogers my guy.
It certainly is childish to want a TV show to end production solely because you don't agree with its political views, and wanting to pull the plug on an educational children's show over that kind of thing is just petty at heck.
I want to know how letters and numbers are political.
@@schoolingdiana9086 Trump's flunkies have a beef against any education that talks about DEI, and since the point of education is for people to be provided with information they need to be prepared for the outside world, it's not surprising that they'd want to get rid of anything in the field of education that they see as "woke".
It so happens that Sesame Street teaches kids about a lot more than just letters and numbers.

Then again in the time that Sesame Street was airing, the world was much harsher, and more destructive chaos had been ensuing more often back then. I like think the worlds' trauma made people worse.

We used to get Sesame Street on one of our main channels here in the UK. It is a positive influence on young children, setting them a great example in caring for others & their surroundings & Elmo is just so cute!

I grew up watching shows on my PBS member station quite a bit in the '80s and '90s and I wouldn't be who I am today without it. Public TV makes a difference. The media landscape in 2024 is vastly different from what it was even in the aughts, when I watched some PBS shows with my much younger half brother. There's a ton more brain rot out there than there was during my childhood (only the last few years of that were in the Internet era), which makes public TV content even more important.

Reminds me of a satirical graphic novel I read called survival street. Basically about puppets trying to fight against an extreme right wing dystopia after they cancel their show. It’s a great read that i highly recommend

It's the empathy these characters teach, it's the love of nature, it's the clarification the news and documentary shows provide that they can't stand. Mainstream media is about profit, so it's full of propaganda and distortion. They don't want any alternative to that. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting funds more than shows on PBS. It helps support local community media throughout the nation. Even though it's mostly invisible, it would be a shame to see it go.

As it turns out, I was right to feel that way because it's unfathomably horrible, honestly makes me feel like I have Stomach Flu minus the vomiting and inability to eat.

I may not have kids, but kids shows on PBS have been a big part of my life ever since I was a kid as well as my siblings when they were kids. Shows like Sesame Street, Barney, Arthur, Mister Roger’s Neighborhood and the Kratt Brothers, just to name a few, have shaped me into the what kind of person I want to be and teach my future son and daughter what they want to be😊

i didn’t always have access to cable growing up. between the lions taught me how to read before i was even in kindergarten. in 1st grade i had a 12th grade reading level. all because of pbs.
Almost all of government funding for public broadcasting goes to rural communities that would have no wireless or wired broadcasting at all with local weather and disaster alerts without that funding and to newspaper reading programs for the blind performed by public broadcasting stations to which there is no commercial alternative. Only a sliver of the incredibly tiny amount from government spending goes to actual content development.
The Republicans have conditioned their base to believe that all their suffering comes from outsiders. This gives Republicans incentive to hurt their own voters because it galvanizes said voters.
Sesame Street and Reading Rainbow both taught me to chase my dreams and be kind to others. Oh such horrible things to do to kids😂

There's a lot of high-quality programming on PBS Kids, I'd DEFINITELY recommend it for your kids

I really hope this dosen't happen. I grew up on PBS Kids (and still am) so taking away free kids programming could really effect the kids who watch, enjoy and rely on these shows. Most of these shows are harmless and help kids learn kindness, empathy, and basic skills that help them grow as a person. They also teach math, science, and reading skills, so pulling the plug on PBS Kids will honestly bring more negativity than anything else.
They do that and kids all flock to Miss Rachel even more 😂 they are so out of it! Too much Elmo exists in the world! They could never purge Elmo! We will all become and army of Elmo’s!!

There are lots of good shows on PBS for everyone. Besides Sesame Street, there is Frontline, Great Performances, Ken Burns Documentaries, Finding Your Roots, All Creatures Great And Small, etc. The list is endless. MAGAs just want to ruin things for everyone. If they don't like it, here's a thought: Change the channel. No one is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to watch. Yeesh.
Sad thing is, this is nothing new for conservatives. They’ve been trying to destroy PBS in general and Sesame Street in particular for almost as long as the show has been around.

The people at Sesame Workshop have been working on a revamp for Sesame Street’s 56th season, and there is already a lot of progress on it. Plus, Sesame Street’s funding comes from HBO, and all of its recent episodes have been released on Max first. Doesn’t that mean that MAGA won’t be able to take funding from the show if it doesn’t air on PBS?
