awesome patch thank you! also an extra goodie i found: if you turn the frequency modulation eg1/ext to about half way between 1 and 2, you get this really cool detuned effect where the oscillators go down in pitch a little bit when a note isn’t being played. it has a really nostalgic, but slightly unsettling sound to it
Thank you so much for doing these videos I just bought an Ms-20 mini (my first hardware synth) and I am learning what it can do musically so much faster with the help from people like you. its great that you are sharing your knowledge
What s lovely friendly video. Although you did it yourself you brought us in with you! You used the magic word LETS. Thank you kind friend. I am getting one now. Didnt know the ms20 went ambient. Super warm!!!
Oh, my. That sounds amazing! I picked up an MS-20 mini about a year ago and I'm still trying to wrap my brain around how the patch panel works. This is mega helpful! Never knew it was capable of such beauty! Thanks for the tutorial!
@@xnslrzn Honestly, I haven't had a ton of time to really dive into it, but I'm sure I will soon. Looking forward to exploring and discovering all that this board has to offer.
Very nice work. I owned an MS20 for years, and I'm an experienced synth programmer/player, so I say that with knowledge. This is very sensitive and intelligent use of this synth.
I guess this whole set of videos is GREAT...Really awesome to see people using their instrument at the best of their capacities, really thank you to share this...
Gave this a shot! I can only record one synth at a time with my system, but routed the output of the ESP back into the EXT input and it was a very similar effect! now to get the MS10 in on it! Thanks so much for this!
This is totally badass. Thanks for uploading! I’m hoping to get one of these for Christmas after watching your video lol. Love what you’re playing and the way you did this! Woo! :)
I've owned an MS-20 mini for about 3 years but have only just now really started to explore it. I'm very much an admirer of the MS-10 and despite it giving you so many more options, I didn't really think I needed the 20. I'm starting to appreciate just how right you are in saying that it's a complex and versatile machine. I've heard a good few people say that it's their favourite all time synth and I think I'm beginning to see why. It can sound brutally raw and out of control or it can sound refined and restrained just like in this video. It seems it can also do just about everything in between. The downside, if there is one is that it is not the most logical or intuitive synth ever made but I think it's probably well worth the effort to get to know your way around it.
Thanks this has been really helpful. I own a ms10 which means I'm unable to do all the paraphonic stuff but still these videos helped me in my understanding of cv and patching. Priceless content.
Your videos are VERY insightful. Thank you. I am new to synthesis and was debating between this and the sh-101. h Tis vid has helped me decide my next purchase. Please post more video for this synth!
Super tuto. J'utilise également la molette de modulation pour modifier l'intervalle de tierce, voire de 7ème, sur mon MonoEvolver. Les monophoniques demandent le recours à quelques astuces ;-) Merci
this is cool, you should do some boards of canada synth tutorials, this sounds very like the sort of textures they use. love the really long detuned organs :)
Thanks for sharing! I don't know if it's me or the MS-20 but I felt like I had to carefully tweak the knobs on the synth and then use eq in my DJ mixer to get close to this sound. I ended up modifying it a bit and adding echo, chorus reverb, and more echo. :) Should be fun to see what I can do with that. Grazie mille!
Great videos Gattobus!!...A few times I tried to make a loop using pink and white noise....kind of soft-snary-hihaty-noisy-loop to put as a background for my common drum tracks, but never was really satisfied with the result...Could you maybe try to patch something like this in a next video? I was also using a midi sequencer with different notes, 1 bar in length. :)
Got around to trying to recreate it in Korg's MS-20 plug-in, I can't get the HPF to self-oscillate and get a nice deep low end like the original, but got pretty close. The knob positions were way different on some parameters though on the plugin. Verdict: get the original 8)
@@theeltea With the Korg Software plugin I cant even come close to this sound, already the basic starting sound to me sounds completely different and is way worse. Not sure if its my lack of adjustment or if the plugin is just miles weaker. Sadly I don't own a real one to be able to compare 1on1.
Great stuff. I'm with you up until the dropping of the levels on the VCO mixer and then the part with the high pass filter. Then the sound diverges a great deal and I'm not sure why. doing this on an ipad app btw.
This is what synth demos and tutors should be.
Yes, so much crap out there
Good to see people still use their synth to make sounds, not compare them with other synths or redo songs.

sounds a bit like one of the new bladerunner soundtracks with that turned a bit up
Whoa, yeah!
Thank you so much for doing these videos

Anders Panders Free Herbert Mullin
+Anders Panders I second this comment, thanks.
Maybe when you find out that i'm dead you'll realize what you did to me
Anders Panders still got that ms-20?
The panning trick with the ESP was mindblowing! Why haven't I thought of that.. Thank you so much
Very nice, clever aproach to polyphony and stereo image. Really great.
What s lovely friendly video.

Love that you start from scratch on these. They're really good, thanks.
These are great instructional videos. Many thanks!
Gonna get me one very soon. I think it's one of the best sounding simple monosynths ever.
This is a brilliant and beautiful patch. Thank you so much for taking the time to share this.
yes it is nice, very calming and misterous with that low hum appearing now and then...nice one
This is great. I've owned an MS-20 for twenty-five years but never really knew how to use the patch bay. Thanks for the videos.
Please upload episode 5!!!!
Excellent. The best synth tutorials start as case studies but are actually glimpses into how to program synthesizers in general.

Tried the same just now with same settings, sounds totally different in the plugin. So the knob positions must be different for sure.
@@Oiseaumusic I also get a bit different results from a korg35 based vcf MS-20 and a later one I borrowed from a friend.

just patched this on my ms-20 Legacy controller it worked and it sounds great. Thanks bro
