The airbrush is such a speed boos for power swords. Before I had one I would spend a ton of time applying a zillion glazes and waiting for them to dry...now it is mask -> spray -> spray -> unmask and done. The best part for me is when you paint the edges, then the whole sword just comes together!
I've often seen cling wrap used to mask the rest of the miniature and then just tape together the parts of the wrap. Seems to lessen the risk of pulling paint or being too sticky.
Man, that was CRAZY simple! I never understood and frankly, I’ve been too intimidated to try. I think I’m going to give this a go on my Custodes commission! Thanks FauxHammer!!
I’m doing this today for the Deathwing Knights and Terminators with power swords. What PSI setting are you using? And needle size 0.2 or 0.3? Also do you thin down the Pro Acryl paint?
You could do it either way I guess. I always just like to cover the largest area first. I hadn’t decided on a colour scheme for the sword until I’d seen the model itself.
I would but it's the same deal. You just need the really thin tape and you curve it along the edge where the blade tapers. Pit 2 highlights on the edge, top and bottom. For the blade boy, make it dark toward the blade and light near the handle
Actually you want to use a wet pallete for edge highlighting. The key is flow improver. The paint should be flowing off of the brush. Then you put your brush at a 45 degree angle and you then you pull in a straight line towards your hear just barley touching that edge.

Used this method on my librarian and bladeguard, came out looking fantastic. Great video 👍
oooh oooh!, do you have a link to pics?
Finally a tutorial that is feasible for the 40+ vanguard vets I have to do. Thank you very much!!
RIP Van Vets

Great tip, never see that, will try it. Plus you can see through it. Personally I can't get on with it, I can't even wrap a sandwich in it neatly
I was really curious as to why you put masking tape on the sword but seeing the end results it’s wonderful! Amazing job!
thanks
Great vid mate, you have reached out from the mists of time to aid me!
Haha I think you've found your niche with these reveals lol. Great video mate. Looks awesome!
I may actually try it
Looks great

Oooh share the results
Great vid man.
Tip, you can use clingwrap instead of putty.
Looks awesome. What PSI are you airbrushing at? Attempted this but mine ended up a little too opaque.
This feels like it would work for batch painting
Yeah it's easy, there are other ways too. You do t need tape, you could just hold card up against it
@Keely Fandel ooh share pics
Do you switch airbrush between colors or do you clean out the previous color? Just bought my first airbrush and maybe I should get a second?

Nice tutorial, thanks! Just wondering why wouldn't you paint the sword prior to the assembly? Or airbrush it befor painting the reat of the model?

Can you do this with metallic speedpaint
probably yeah
Man i need to get an airbrush !!!!

Is there anyway you could do one of these but for POWER AXES? I have about 30 axes to paint. :)

If you were to do this in red, how do you do it without the sword looking pink? Thanks!
replace the lighter colours with orange and yellow
My next birthday present I want is an airbrush.
have you seen our beginners buying guide?

depends on the paint really, the point was you can overdilute your paint.
Could I do this with glazes instead of airbrush?
Definitely, If you have the patience (I don't).
@@FauxHammer haha fair enough, tbh I’m too cheap to buy an airbrush 🤣
@@Coproquim haha, fair enough, make sure you subscribe as I have 2 reviews coming out for 2 £30 airbrush kits! Compressor and brush!
Does someone know what would be good Citadel equivalents of the colors used in the video?
It honestly matters very little. If you want a blue sword, just get a dark blue and a bright blue and a white.
@@FauxHammer fair enough
@@KudiGamer sorry, not trying to be unhelpful, I suppose the best would be Incubi Darkness and either Baharoth Blue or Temple Guard Blue
@@FauxHammer thanks!
and no worries, no offense taken ^^
lol thats the same music artis opis uses...ughhhhhh
