That sword really reminds me of lightning stuff and cool flashes from the sky!
haha "get it on there like no one's watching". This is a great take on just going for it!
Your voice is so soothing. When I am having a bad day, I come here and watch one of your videos.😁
This was sent from heaven lmao I friggen struggle so hard with anything making it look illuminated. It’s very frustrating I painted my vectrix honour guard 2 nights ago and it turned out awful it was pretty disheartening. I guess it happens though I’m
New to the hobby and have been
Steadily progressing this was my first what I felt like a set back but it almost boils right down to the power effects. Bad ass though, thanks Emil you’re defiantly one of those dudes who are a totally blessing to the hobby. I appreciate what you do! Can’t wait to try this technique out!
This is a great technique and well-explained. I really liked that you showed us an example of doing it from beginning to end! I love your content, you always make techniques so approachable! Cheers!
Thanks so much, you just put something that was for me like total crazy thing as easy few steps project. I'm right now goint to try it :D
@@SquidmarMiniatures Not kidding, when I saw this video, I just found my new colour scheme for a miniature (just thought about a sword, and then ideas came flowing)
Congrats for the video. But I have one doubt: if the sword is primed in white, does the techinic still work? Thanks.
Those look amazing. These popped right out of WOW the game for sure.
Thank you for the tips. And for sharing the Kickstarter!
Sweeeet! Thank you for sharing this. You make this feel accomplishable!
I just bought the indomitus box and now I know how I'm gonna do the power swords. Thanks!
I really wanna see your Terrain Emil! It always looks sooo awsome when we get a glimps at it! 😍🙏🏼
Makes me feel less scared to attempt power sord now. Thank you for sharing 👍
Glad to see you post a painting related video again.
Nice video!, I've got into the hobby recently, and I'm looking forward to keep improving, and dang it... I learned so much from your videos, I'm really happy that I found your channel. You make it look so simple that encourage me to try new techniques everyday. Thanks for keeping this channel up!. BTW, almost watched the entire channel videos in 2 days.
Super awesome video! I'm still working on these technics so another very clear and precise explanation is super helpful! I'll be sure to post some pictures of my progress on your FB page!
Definitely trying this out on my upcoming Bladeguard Veterans
Thank you squidmar! The best as always!
That looks so easy! I feel super inspired.
Thanks as always for the guide! Going to hunt for that mythical white paint now :)
Put up UK and DE links. Unfortunately no US link to amazon. Let me know if you find it.
Awesome video. This is going in the saved items folder for future inspiration.
i trired it today and after i was frustrated your video came out ^^ ty for the unexpected help :D
💥 kaboom 💥 just in time ! Thank you Emil :)
Going try to use this for a base, thanks!
Thanks you great little guide! 👍
Quite proud of myself in that I ended up stumbling on a similar process "painting bravely" :)
Man congrats for your job. One day you'd do one tutorial to how paint ice paterns? Thx
I'm liking it and smashing it!
I liked this video, just because you are not using an airbrush... I was looking for someone who would make a power sword without an airbrush! I think you are the only one to do it
some times we use airbrush, some times not. something for everyone :D
There are some other videos, but all the ones I have seen have used many thin glades on a traditional GW power sword. This was a nice break as it used a "normal" sword and a different technique.
great tutorial I will try this next time I paint a sword!
Great stuff as always 👍👍
Great video, as always!
Congratulations on 200k !
I'm trying to do my own for month. For some reason i'm always struggling with the lightning drawing. Thank you for that. I'll try to get my hands on this white paint.
looks great for night lord armour tbh
I’m glad you mention about the white i need a better brand for sure great video
Thank you , Squid .
Awesome video man
Awesome job
Thank you!
Very cool. Thank you
im gonna do this right now
Great tutorial. Definitely going to use this for the bloodletters that are currently sitting on my hobby table, patiently waiting to be painted. Make 'em look all snazzy and special! Keep up the great work!! Did your scenery arrive from the UK yet?!
Oh this was video is perfect for my Custodes and there weapons
More from these tips plz amazing
Great stuff friend 👏
+1 for teaching how to do this without an airbrush!
Great vid
Great video! Love the swords and painted minis overall. Interesting hint about the Heavy Body Acrylic.
Do you have any tips on how to make it better workable? Is thinning on wet palette with water enough or do you need some medium and/or flow improver?
Instar Arctic white is a veryyyy good white as well!
trying this!
This is so fire goddamn!
3:26 mixing paint has never been so hypnotising
Nice job. I'm lacking the 3D printer, and struggling finding some good compagnies where buy some nice minis. Yesterday just saw Black Crow but still expensive figures from start. It's a journey.
Thanks 😜
I learn of you making supersmoothtransitions 😆😍😍😍😍
8:02 And now you just gotta do it on the other side!
Thanks
Time to practice om some old sprue bits and pieces. :)
Good video, very helpfull !
Ride that lightening Emil!
Hahahahaha, this is the funniest video you ever made. The sound effects and the stop motion animations are so fun :D
And a great tutorial by the way, thanks :)
And where did you get the He-Man on Battlecat mini ???
Reaper Pure White cannot be broken.
I'm confused by the assumption that generic power swords produce light. I mean the lighting effect can be quite cool, but it's generally odd looking from any eyes that have experience with scale modeling.
The concept of a power swords started with a regular sword that has an electrical device attached, that just vibrated the blade to improve it's ability to slice... I mean I get that painting light is easier than painting a quiet buzzing sound.
Nice video
White: I'm curious if you've tried the Daler Rowney white ink? I will try Shmincke though, looks like a more full body paint. Good stuff as always!
Hey man, yeah i have. But the ink is so liquid, this one is more heavy body! :)
@@SquidmarMiniatures Juan Hidalgo swears by diluting that Sminckle something white with inks, might be worth a try
Hi Squidmar, can you please make a video on how to paint a Necron warrior in a cool but easy way? I tried out different metalics like leadbelcher or runelord brass but it just looks boring and cheap. Do you have an idea for how to make them look more exciting/ beautiful?
might try something similar in purple on my grey knight kill team, their blades are looking a tad dull currently...
Nice!
What about other colors in the same range from schmincke? Could they be used as a substitute for miniature paints or will they have the same disappointing result with coverage as I’ve had with all that I’ve tried so far?
That looks great and simple to do. Now where’s my power sword? 😇
Looks beatiful and not so complicated, I guess ^^ The skin of the last male mini showed at the end of the video is awesome to, is it just purple ?
me: looking for an airbrush tutorial for necrons power blades
Mr. Squidmar: fuck the airbrush
If people are a bit worried about 'ruining' a nearly painted mini, one could of course always test out creating the effects on any piece of plastic, really. Just some chopped sticks of sprue plastic are perfect for completely carefree experimenting!
Such a useful vid, thanks. I'm new to painting and I'm curious about the brush you used for this. My small brush frays and is hard to get a fine point. Wondered if it's a brush quality issue
I used the squidmar kolinsky brush, might be your brush but could be brush handling too
Did you know I designed that mini you painted!!??? This is insane!
@@SquidmarMiniatures yea, I mainly craft on my channel but I’m thinking of making a video on some of the designs I made. Are you planning on painting something else from the Kickstarter?
Ok, I need to ask, where did you get that dwarf poster in the background? I saw it in your earlier videos and have been searching everywhere for it and can't find it. Great video as always!
nice video! Could you tell me wich printer do you use for those tree buildings?
When you wet blend, do you mix in any mediums so your paints dry slower or do you just go for it?
Cool... Can you do it on a none gigantic weapon? Like a realscale weapon?
Hi Emil! Great job as always! I wanted to ask a question: is there a time limit to order your set of brushes? Since christmas is approaching, i'm planning on improving my tools!
Hey man, it's very likely if you order now it will come next year. As the KS and late pledge orders are so many
I tried to follow it but messed up! I need a bit more practice, thanks for showing us how to do it!
4:40 you can say that like 90 zillion more times.
Hey, you showed off Ninjon’s tortle! Also...can a power sword be any color, or is it specifically blue? What if I want my SoB to have a green power sword?
Hey Emil, thanks for the effort you put into this video, I see you put in a lot of editing in the beginning. For me though, you really don't have to do that to make your videos more enjoyable or interesting. I like the style you used on your past videos very much.
Well, I don't think your videos were boring to begin with.
I did re-watch this video to see how I feel about the "new style". I don't want to be negative about it, it's just that I did edit videos in the past and know how much work some of the small things can be. It's just a matter of: please don't get carried away from the painting thing.
Do whatever suits you best. I just wanted to make sure you know you don't have to "improve" to be loved by us.
@@echtvergoldet Thanks to patreon i've been able to hire a editor a few days a week :)
Did you know Hasbro owns both My Little Pony and WOTC who make D&D? 😂
@@SquidmarMiniatures It's called Ponyfinder, and has existed for years with constant updates and full worldmaking by the author, not to mention the actual official Tails of Equestria which is more kid-oriented. And yes, there's minis, plus whatever you can print of course.
"How to paint night lords" 👌
Do you think Windsor and Newton's acrylic titanium white would be as effective as Schmincke for this? I have a tube of W&N already and I don't want to spend extra money if I don't need to.
i think it probably is, i have not tried but if its their high quality acrylics i cant imagine otherwise
My personal experience with the watercolour paints of both Schmincke (first one I've used, as they - like me - are German and it's just what I found in stores) and W&N are that W&N is a notch or two better. I expect their acrylics to be on par with that, so you should be fine. :-)
Can I ask what brush you used to paint the white - - i'm new to painting, so I've been sticking with citadel brushes - nothing I have has a point that fine - thanks x
Hey mate. It's the squidmar brushes www.squidmar.com/latepledge they are up for preorder :)
Nice He-Man miniature! Will you paint it? 😘
do you recommend the citadel colours or would you take another brand?
Any suggestions for a white paint available in the US?
Ive heard of people using heavy bodied acrylics for a better more versatile white. Are heavy bodies as pigment dense or more than miniature paints out of the tube, or is it something else that makes them more useful in some cases?
@Squidmar Miniatures How thick is the blade of the miniature you painted (approximate millimeters would be cool) and also, are there any affiliation links available on the Swedish amazon? I see you have UK- and DE-kickback links but can't find Swedish versions.
🎃👍
🔥🎸🔥
I'm a bit confused watching this which paints he used at which steps, anyone able to assist in breaking it down?
Do you use a separate brush to mix the colors on the wet palette or just have a great technique for not getting paint in the ferule/breaking bristles?
I like the new intro music, is it permanent?
@@SquidmarMiniatures i did not notice that! however this one stood out for sure!
