    I'm 62. Once upon a time... you just bought a motorbike. If you went down a dirt road.. OK. If you cruised the highway .. OK. If you raced you hotted it up. But you could always ride to work eh. It was a means of transport. And this is the Honda CB500X. If you only want one bike, this is it. Boring? nah.. I was never bored. People make me bored, bikes never do. I'm an aircraft technician, and bikes are as close to flying as mortals can afford. Weeee..

      You are my type of biker. Any bike is a pleasure, at least for a while. I've had a 1981 Honda CX500 Custom, about 65,000 miles, no rebuild, but I got it with 35k. Liquid cooled vtwin, wonderful. 5500 RPM is just over 60MPH. I've had it on 75 MPH ND interstate, not it's ideal riding road. Most drivers are doing near 85 between Fargo to Montana. Jumped off halfway. Love it. Know it inside out. I'll never sell it, they all seem to be turning into cafe racers.

    You're a great tester, and give a good insight into a bike. The big plus, is you don't smother the engine noise with loud music. Thumbs up!

    Just back from Lisbon and saw quite a few of these and NC700s around the place. Have been looking at the CB500X for a while now and think it's time to bite the bullet and get one. Thanks for the great reviews. Best of UA-cam.

    I have the 2018 model and all I say to my friends is: if you ride this bike, you're going to want to buy one. because this bike is simply a majestic flying carpet ride.
    plus, with 17,7 litters i'm boosting a 500 kms range at a 3.5lt average.
    this is the real power of dreams

    I really like how you described the CB500X... it can do everything okay, but its not the best at anything. I think its the optimal starter bike for someone who doesn't really know what they want out of motorcycling... its also the closest thing to the motorcycles of the 1960's in my opinion... in the 60's you didn't choose a sport bike or a cruiser or an adventure bike... every street bike could do everything well, but there were still off road bikes that were better off road and big harley davidsons that were better cruisers but specifically standard type bikes could do a little of everything.

      Have to disagree here , have just traded down from 600 bandit , nearly half bhp, have surprised myself with this bike , was going to buy a tiger or v strom , this bike is not restricted to new bikers but old farts like me too. Have to agree with this guys statements about some things , but for the price I paid I think is a very good bike especially with full luggage.

    I have bought the latest nc750s mt in july . And i love it very much . My first 'big' bike . Allready done round bout 12k km , using it every day for work/fun/light touring . And the LED lights do light up the road perfect at night .
    Hey cager ... want to do a review for the new 750s ? you can feel the difference compared from your old model .

    Thank you for this review. I've been on my awesome PCX 150 for a year but am considering something a little more powerful for longer rides. Not that I haven't done 65-100 miles a day on the PCX plus I love it for errands and my commute. And its easy to ride. Mine looks a lot like the one in the background in this review! And I love that its light. Forgiving of errors. And space under the seat! I'd mostly commute and go for longer weekend rides. But I am looking at CB500X for that distance with maybe a box on the back for my commute. But don't want to sacrifice too much of the ease of the PCX. And I'd be new to manual shifting which is another concern. Also heard a few complaints about the 500X handling around corners and I do have a few twistees on the way to work. But can't get away from this fantasy of tossing a bag over the 500X seat and hitting the road for a long weekend without worrying about beating on the poor engine.

    Thanks, appreciate the review. I'm upgrading from a 125cc scooter with 23,000 miles and past dirt bike experience; not sure what to get. CB500X, Versus 650, V-Strom 650, NC700X - I'm concerned the CB500x will struggle with 5" 9'and 275 lbs.

    • @RidinDutch37
      @RidinDutch37 8 років тому +1

      I'd go with a vstrom, smoother than the versus, more revs to play with than the nc700x and will be more capable than the cb500x on the highway

    • @JosRitter
      @JosRitter 8 років тому

      RidinDutch, thank you for the recommendation. I will be sure to test ride one before handing over the cash. up to now, I was favoring the Versus, but concerned with the short wheelbase. Sounds like this the longer wheelbase of the V-strom makes a difference. Thanks again.

    • @RidinDutch37
      @RidinDutch37 8 років тому +1

      No problem, I'm glad I could help; to add a bit I'm definetely not brand loyal but so far (by accident) my bikes have been Suzuki, with the freewind 650 being my current one and I can attone to this bike being very comfortable even for taller/ bigger guys, from what I've heard the v-strom is a smoother, better version of the freewind (an extra cylidner definetely helps with the smoothness)...I gotta admit that the Versus looks way cooler though

      same for your own bike in Dubai eh? even though they are stupidly cheap there.. Someone could actually make good money buying used bikes and bringing them to the US and selling them if you had the capitol to invest... used vehicles are "beneath" them just like the Japanese so the bikes and cars are stupidly cheap second hand. (their vehicles reflect them as people so having a second hand vehicles says they are of lower station... unless it's an old american car like a Cadillac or Mustang or something... or an old Jaguar or Rolls Royce) you can get a low mileage Ducati for under $3000US over there very easily.. hell you can buy a Ferrari for like $20k

    Hi Cager, thanks for the review! And 2 questions please. I've just got my drive license (A, w/o limit) and considering two bikes: CB500X and NC750X. I saw that you've tested CB also. What would be your advice (regardless price)? That was the first question. :) The second one (more important): why?

  • @UltimatePwnageNL
    @UltimatePwnageNL 8 років тому +1

    I started out on a 100hp bike because it was nearly new and the price of a 10 year old 35 hp bike. Low cc bikes are really expensive here, i would love a CB500X... The FZ6S2 isn't bad by any means, but it's pretty heavy, comparatively. Once i have the money i'll buy a 200-400cc dual sport as a second bike! (which will be more expensive than the FZ... sigh)

      the Netherlands, where there is money aplenty and no off road opportunities. Summer riders all have sport bikes / choppers, all-year riders have 1000cc+ adventure bikes, and here i am riding a sport bike in -1°C weather! :D

    I was thinking of the CB500X or the NC700X. I have ridden motorcycels on the past but not for the last 7 years and before that sporadically due to work related travel. I am 245 lbs with a short inseam so considering the 500x for its lower seat height or lower the NC700. Which would I look forward to riding? HP is not a problem as its the same really, but the torque is only 31 for the 500 and 46 for the 700. I'm worried the 31 torque isn't enough for me and camping gear for a 2-3 day moto camping trip. What do you think? Which is worth it to buy first and keep for at least a couple years?

    Hey CageronTwoWheels. I want to ask you a fairly personal question about your overall comfort about this bike.
    I'm 5 feet 9 inches tall with a 32 inch leg inseam and wear motorcycle boots. Currently I am cramped daily on my Honda rebel 300 2017 ( yes that is my fault. Yes I was in a hurry to get on two wheels..).
    Looking at this bike ( and the nc750x as well) both bikes on their right sides side by side ....with my rebel 300, I wonder if this cb500x or nc750x would mean my knees wouldn't be quite as bent. ...meaning my being more comfy on the cb500x or nc750x?
    On my rebel, My but and hips are level or slowly below the mental " line" of my knees and they are bent alittle more than 90 degrees.
    Could you tell me your leg inseam measurement and your details thoughts of your comfort level on this bike? I don't need a big engine and wonder if this 471cc would be the sweet spot for me as I'm not a fast rider at all and just want to cruise and maybe do light offroading ( such as going to a camp site). Thanks for the video man.
    Cheers.

    • @terrabiker
      @terrabiker 8 років тому +3

      Hey man , was on Kymco Downtown 125 for 2,5 years , bought 500x this year in March , now got cca 8700km , love it , 3,6L/100km , now it's avarage 5-10C so It's cca 4L/100km , I'm just getting gas and having fun. Great little monkey and won't get you in trouble if you overdo it. ABS is great to have as well. Sometimes you'll say to yourself that you would like to have something more powerful but in the end when the emotion fall down , you realize that it's everything one need to have great fun with great economy. Gearbox is clunky though , and my friend with cb500f 2015 have problems with shifting sometimes , which our dealership somehow refuse to get repaired ( disappointed ) and always search for excuses why not to get it open and fixed. But mine is ok so far.
      Overall great bike , I wanted to buy something different many times already , but I just didn't find anything that wold replace this one :D I would do too much compromises to get something else which i don't want to do. It's just fit into every category I wanted , low consumption , goes everywhere ( with Rally Raid kit it's also GREAT OFF ROADER ) , reliable , comfortable. Yeah , tires , stock tires doesn't taste good in wet. Maybe i'm just a pussy myself , but I really don't like the wet performance , dry , they stick pretty well off road as well.
      Don't know what else to say. You will not be disappointed.

    • @terrabiker
      @terrabiker 8 років тому

      Yeah I was thinking about them , but they are rather expensive , I will go after winter with Scorpion Trail II , they should be technically Angel GTs for "adventure" bikes with good price so we'll see. Reviews say they stick like a glue in wet.

    Hey Cager, thanks for your videos! Love them! Could you give me a piece of advice? I live in Spain, and I will be buying a new bike before this year ends, hopefully. I'm really undecissive between the CB 500 X and the NC 750 X manual transmission. I will be using the bike for weekend rides only (short and medium/long), and only once or twice a year for longer trips through Europe, with luggage. Which one do you think I should get?

      You know @CagerOnTwoWheels I'm not new on motorcycles.
      I've started with a vespa lx50 scooter (1 year), then went to a Yamaha ybr250 (2 years), then a Xj6 (2 years) (one of the first ones in portugal lol (i'm the forum xj6portugal creator and administrator), then i bought a Yamaha FZ8 (2 years) (to much consumption), then i bought a Honda Hornet 2012 (4 years)... and now and finally i'm a proud owner of a 2016 cb500x.
      The 1st one that i feel at home lol.. Consumptions (3,5-4), comfort, easy riding, very very manoeuvrable, and can go "anywhere". Love this more than the others.. i know.. diferent bikes, but it's how i feel. lol :)
