    Brilliant review mate, I myself have been using this gun since I had it as a demo around 7 weeks now and its fantastic, currently using a 1.3 tip for basecoat and Clearcoat and I'm on my 95th job using the same tip without any problems. Been painting for over 30 years and I think 3m are onto something big here as it's a gun that will do the work of 4 guns just by changing the tips, so light and easy to use and clean, it's a 👍 up from me.

      @@luke1811 I wash it with water then run it under the gun wash machine quickly, blow it out and it's ready to go again.

    I got mine as the kit for under $400 USD about 2 years ago. I’ve always had good luck with 3M products and I didn’t want to fill a cabinet with guns as a beginner. The amount of time and cost of cleaner saved easily makes up for replacing tips once or twice a month. 🎉

    I just popped for one of these. I spray cabinets professionally and my personal automotive projects. I use a small shop compressor with 2 60gal air tanks. Works great for smaller jobs, when I do a car I just rent a gas powered compressor and tie it into my shop system. Gives me tons of air!. The throw away tips work great for me!

    I am in the market for three guns. A primer/sealer, base coat and clear coat. And maybe one more to do complete spot repairs. What in your opinion are the best choices for each. I do mainly complete jobs and custom work. Speed is not a concern. Quality is number one with the idea as to glass out every job as slick as possible. Will not be trying to match peel. I would like to say I really do enjoy you videos. I have been painting for a long time but I still have learned a lot from your techniques. Thanks for taking the time to do all the videos.

    • @blazersgeneration6028
      @blazersgeneration6028 2 роки тому

      In the U.S. where 3M is based (Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing), HVLP is the standard, particularly because it releases much fewer volatile organic compound pollution into the air. As a newbie myself, I don't know about the old way of spraying, and wouldn't have new equipment available other than HVLP. The bottom line is that this is a gun that gives good results; it's much better than the dubious cheap Chinese stuff, and much cheaper than the top brands. Having used it for a couple of weeks in the shop and being satisfied with what it does, it should be just the thing for a home car painter. 3M says it's for professionals only: "For industrial/occupational use only. Not for consumer sale or use." so at least they are intending for it to be used quite a bit without it wearing out prematurely.

    It speaks volumes of just how expensive imports can be, Amazon and 3M direct in the US have the basic set at 170 USD plus tax and 325 USD for 15 Nozzles and additional parts + gun.

    Great honest review as always Gunny, there has been a lot of interest here for this gun and it's getting good reviews, most here are saying the 1.3 is good for base but the 1.2 is the best tip for clear they are getting a flatter finish. I was interested in this gun until I found out it was HVLP and that killed it for me as I don't have the compressor for that along with my airfed mask. Wow Gunny the prices for this gun where you are seem very inflated, the kit here comes in at £203 where you choose your tip size and you get a bag of spare ones with it which is a lot cheaper than a GTI Prolite. Gunny. Hope you read this mate.
    I owe you bloody big time, thanks to your tips and tricks, i've been able to spray a FPV GT-P BA model falcon in blueprint blue.
    Brought an Iwata Bellaria W400 after watching your review, watched and rewatched you and Allan spraying that patrol in the shed.
    Lost count of how many vids i have watched, from masking to spray technique. It all added up to an awesome spray job on my car, and i reckon it's a bit tricky too that colour.
    Watched the AU ute vids in the same colour heaps of times to pick up any little tricks, especially the base coat, first attempt had a set of stripes a tiger would be proud of, but i got it in the end.
    Few fish eyes and grit, but they ended up sanding and polishing out.
    Thanks Gunny, i've ended up with a very nice result, and believe me, i'm a fussy bastard

    As a DIY/ garage painter myself, the price just doesn’t reflect a good value for money , here the 3M kit cost nearly 400 dollars, which is within the price range of a lot of top contender sprayguns, then you add a hvlp cap to it requiring high cfm and you pretty much blew out the DIY garage painters! I do like the fast cleaning but it’s not a high selling point for someone like me who doesn’t worry about timely repairs. Overall I think the spraygun is neither here nor there , it’s kinda just in the middle , and the on going cost for tips just doesn’t make sense for a long term investment for pro painters. Thanks for the review gunny! 🤙🏻

    • @BryanMiranda96
      @BryanMiranda96 9 місяців тому

      Hard agree here, after buying 5 packs of nozzles you're well within the range of Sagola 4600 and Pro-Lite, both of which out give a better finish and after 10 times that youve got 10 guns that can all do specialized things, or instant swaps for different colors whereas with the 3m route you've just burned through thousands of dollars in nozzles and only have the one gun
      Here I'm spraying at a high production shop for a nationwide auction and I have to spray 2-3 panels on 15 to 20 cars a day when there's enough preppers to clear out and mask a fourth booth, these guns would be a waste of money for us

    This gun is awesome my company buys the nozzles it performs great if you think outside the box a little i.e. he is using 29psi in this video thats outside of the box but at the end of the day it produces fantastic finishes you dont have to clean it it does everything metallic pearl clear sealer adhesive promoter i offten use it start to finish and honestly thinking about buying a 2nd because I like to have 2 guns in the booth when im blending one for color the other for wet bed blender. If i do a big high end job... yea i dont use it.

    The air volume side put aside it looks like it lays down everything really nice even the clear looks fantastic, uniform, spray looks very consistent. Ultimately its use is very specific. It is not an enthusiast gun, and not a hobbyist gun. Looks more like a large repair shop part, however I am not sure if the cost of materials is worth the time saved from having to completely break down a metal gun.

    i used the 3M spray gun at one of the last bodyshops I painted at I hated it honestly after like 10-15 sprays you would have to swap out the heads and if you didnt catch it at the right time the head would just pop off in the middle of spraying. I had the biggest headache trying to fix the damage caused from the heads popping off in the middle of spraying smh. Longevity was terrible

    So I live in the US. I am a begginer. They actually make this in HVLP with Gravity feed as a kit for $385 US and HVLP Pressure feed and Gravity Feed kit for $500 US! So must be very expensive in australia.the gun by itself is between 250 and 300.
    None the less, besides this gun what would you recommend for type( gravity vs. pressure) hvlp vs lvlp) what brands and models would you recommend for a beginner. I am looking to paint a few different panels on my 2015 Ford escape that come with the Tuxedo Black Metallic paint. If you could please make few recommendations I would greatly appreciate it.

    Hey gunny loved the review. I'm also trying this spray gun out. I spray cromax pro in the US and it's great for my blender. Was told by my axalta rep that they tested this gun out and concluded the droplet size was not consistent enough to re recommend for the color especially so on metallics. I dont notice any difference just wondering g if you noticed anything funny on color. And I only ask this because standoblue and cromax pro are supposedly the same.

      Yes, they are the same and I noticed no difference at all. I found it to be great for Standoblue basecoat.

    How did the tips hold up spraying at 29-30psi I spray lineX bedliners and our premium liner has a glossy black topcoat we spray over the lineX and it has to be sprayed with a 2.0 tip at about 30 psi. We tried using the older accuspray model but when we tried to spay at that pressure the tips would blow off and left us with quite a mess.

      U need the HGP pot to spray the fat stuff and u can spray with lower pressure... Think of a pressure pot but on top of your gun 👍

      @@r1crazy100 That's the accuspray gun with the little hose that goes to the cup to pressurize it right? I had one back when I was still working at a body shop when they first came out. Do they still only come with the tiny cup tho cause we use the medium size 22 oz. Cups otherwise we have to stop to refill 1 or 2 times depending on the size of the bed.

    I have an Iwata W-77 which I bought decades ago for Acrylics and Enamels. Still using the gun for the odd job as a hobbyist. I wonder what this gun will be like in 20 years time for a hobbyist like myself and if any parts will be available. Plastic gun, unimpressed.

    Hey gunny.... i have a question about a dv1 clear gun i bought. Ive been using it for basecoat but ever since i bought it the fan has been spit. Top/bottom heavy. Doesnt matter where i adjust the fan. And the only way to sort of fix it is to spray at 1 bar on the digital gauge. But ive been experiencing mottle especially with silver. Do you think a cap replacement could fix this? Regards jamie
