One of the things that strikes me is if you’re ever in Axe’s stream, he’s always smiling. In this you could see the stone cold determination and how serious he was. This wasn’t just an online tournament, this was his chance at taking a major with heavy hitters making up the opponents. This was such a big deal. The other thing is it took him 9 years of work to do it. That’s commitment right there.
historical milestone in the melee community. axe was the first melee player id ever seen, and the only one i needed to inspire me to play. GGz axe, well deserved victory
Axe is a true one man army. Single-handedly spearheading the development of a midtier character, and staying loyal through more than a decade of competition. That takes an outstanding level of dedication. The exact same can be said for Wizzrobe and his style of Falcon. Congratulations to both players. Also shoutouts to Beyond the Summit crew. Your tournaments for every competitive game are player-friendly, communty oriented, funny, witty, and always high production quality. Beyond the Summit will always be my favorite staple of the competitive gaming scene.
Easily the greatest smash moment in my opinion. I always come back to this. Maybe I'm just a huge Axe fan but for him to win a major with Pikachu is nuts
I have always wanted Axe or/and Hbox to cameo in official Pokemon media at some point. Never thought I'd get the opposite of my wish when Axe sat down after his popoff. Iconic Red and Ash moment. I'm really happy Axe won because I've always felt bad for dropping Pikachu in 2001 because I couldn't figure out up air. He's been working hard, alone, for a long time pushing the Pikachu meta. So happy. Hope he sleeps well tonight.
I've never been one to hate on Hbox (or any other player). But honestly even I wanted to throw a crab at him when he went to make a speech. This was AXE's moment... Seriously WTF is wrong with that guy??? Just hand the man his trophy, tell him he's an icon, and then fuck ALL the way off.
Man for someone who knows the pain of always placing 2nd/3rd, when I was competing in highschool and college, I got hella emotional not even gonna lie. My man's!!! Congrats to Axe. Crazy tourney!!p
I love this. Axe finally getting a huge win, Wizzy performing hella good, and everyone happy in the end. What an ending to one of the best Melee tournaments of all time.
This is crazy wen u think about it. For so long melee has been in the era of the 5 gods and now we see 2 players in GF than no one really expected in such a stacked tournament. Congrats to Axe!
I've probably commented on this video multiple times idc but the yes that AXE lets out when he won just is full of emotion and I can't get over it. You can tell he wanted that so much and got it.
I didn't realize that I comment every year on this video when I watch it, but I got 5th at a semiregional in my region in Ultimate and I feel like he did. It happened two days ago and I've already cried three times thinking about it, although it's on a lesser scale. I beat bracket demons and felt so emotional. I don't watch much Melee but this video makes me emotional and helped me work through emotions when crying today
I started keeping up with esports since I was in middle school back in like 06 with Melee. 13 years ago. I've watched countless hours of several different esports over all those years...and this is the first time I've cried over something like this. Goddamn. I love Axe, I love Melee, I hope esports continues to grow and expand across the world so more people can experience amazing feelings like this. This will forever be a moment to remember.
I met Axe at Smash Gods and Gatekeepers back in 2017 in LA. It was my first big tournament I attended. I met Axe outside of the venue and he was the nicest person to talk with. I don’t remember what we talked about but he was the nicest top player I interacted with So happy to see him finally win a major
The melee meta is amazing me. The character diversity these last few years is insane, but seeing a pikachu and a falcon in grands at summit? Nothing but respect for the work these guys put in on the daily for this. I love this community.
I have never heard commentary with this many people doing so well letting every single person speak and get input in a natural, free flowing way. It's also awesome to hear commentary that's actually invested in the match! 👍
The hate towards Hbox is slowly dying, Mango won a major, Leffen is back, PP is back (streaming), Falcon won a major and PIKACHU won a major! This is the best timeline, Melee is sick
Melee is the best fighting game in history in my opinion. It's been out for 18 years, died out, then had a revival with Evo. It only gets more exciting to watch, 18 years later and still appreciating it's depth. Then you have storylines like this, before 2019 I never thought a Falcon or Pikachu would win a major in the current meta, It's so inspiring. I like other games and follow them, but Melee 2019 is ridiculous.
I played against Axe in 2006 in Tuscon, Arizona when he was barely ranked in AZ. Crazy to see how far he has come. So cool to see him and all his grinding pay off finally. Grats man!!!!

Earths mightiest Falcons of Wizzolo, Shoutouts2Jesus, and n00ner are the trifecta of peak Falcon play. We are in a great timeline.
@@TapDat52K I miss this timeline
And wizzy still isn't sponsered
@@phunki1696 nope, not anymore.
He’s got no personality man. Companies need someone marketable.
@@Jaime-ni7sw the fuck?
@@chuckingknives I mean he's not wrong. I think Wizzy's good enough now for it to not matter much honestly, but don't tell me you think Chillin's sponsored by the same team as Hbox because of his tournament results.
EvilApple567 some people get sponsored for different reasons. Some for their results and others for their community involvement. It all depends on the sponsor
That’s commitment right there.
grsmash gotta do top 10 wholesome melee 2
the entire video is just the end of these finals
historical milestone in the melee community. axe was the first melee player id ever seen, and the only one i needed to inspire me to play.
I go into every tournament routing for Mango and Falco, but I was so amped to see Axe win this. This was fucking rad and Axe is a legend.
Whispy Woods is in fact *a tree.*
A TREE
I have always wanted Axe or/and Hbox to cameo in official Pokemon media at some point.
Never thought I'd get the opposite of my wish when Axe sat down after his popoff.
Iconic Red and Ash moment.
I'm really happy Axe won because I've always felt bad for dropping Pikachu in 2001 because I couldn't figure out up air. He's been working hard, alone, for a long time pushing the Pikachu meta. So happy. Hope he sleeps well tonight.
*Axe Wins Summit*
Me: "Hold my tears"
51:40 Axe knew to stop him from giving yet another speech
lmfaoooo
Never seen that speech-cancel tech before 😂
AndrewAND Kunaal innovating the speech canceling tech, what a time to be alive;)
@@LongShot304 I can't blame him, in that moment Axe was everyone's hero, even Hbox's. It was cringe I agree but hey, heart sometimes just comes out
So many historic moments this year! Congrats to both of these God like players!
I’m just getting into melee and god, what a great place to start. What an explosive set, truly amazing players. Pioneers for their characters.
History has been made, congrats Axe!! PIKA-POWER
I WAS HERE:
2:32 A.M. FLORIANOPOLIS - 6/17/2019
History was made my guys!
It was 5 A.M. at my place and I had to go to work one hour later but fuck it, it was totally worth watching this!
That was an extremely emotional grand final.
Maria Heart slowly started to get water eyes when he stood still like that. Then the hug came and... ugh gotta mop the floor now
Walgreens Drake
38:35
“A TREE!!!” - HBOX
38:40
“That’s always been there” - Chillindude
Man for someone who knows the pain of always placing 2nd/3rd, when I was competing in highschool and college, I got hella emotional not even gonna lie. My man's!!! Congrats to Axe. Crazy tourney!!p
You deserve this so much Axe
I love this. Axe finally getting a huge win, Wizzy performing hella good, and everyone happy in the end. What an ending to one of the best Melee tournaments of all time.
"I need some Pizza." words that will live on in melee history
Here after Amsa won The Big House 10 ❤
First time i actually got really emotional watching a smash set, cried so much after Axe won. WP you deserved it. Best GF ever.
This is crazy wen u think about it. For so long melee has been in the era of the 5 gods and now we see 2 players in GF than no one really expected in such a stacked tournament. Congrats to Axe!
Kept refreshing finally.
I've probably commented on this video multiple times idc but the yes that AXE lets out when he won just is full of emotion and I can't get over it. You can tell he wanted that so much and got it.
0:16 tophs voice and axes lips sync up almost perfectly
I didn't realize that I comment every year on this video when I watch it, but I got 5th at a semiregional in my region in Ultimate and I feel like he did. It happened two days ago and I've already cried three times thinking about it, although it's on a lesser scale. I beat bracket demons and felt so emotional. I don't watch much Melee but this video makes me emotional and helped me work through emotions when crying today
I have never been to a video this early on before I can't even select a higher quality
20XX has been averted, we live in the greatest timeline
I met Axe at Smash Gods and Gatekeepers back in 2017 in LA. It was my first big tournament I attended. I met Axe outside of the venue and he was the nicest person to talk with. I don’t remember what we talked about but he was the nicest top player I interacted with
So happy to see him finally win a major
"I just wanna say father's day to my Dad."
Don't do me like this Axe.
The melee meta is amazing me. The character diversity these last few years is insane, but seeing a pikachu and a falcon in grands at summit? Nothing but respect for the work these guys put in on the daily for this. I love this community.
I’m crying two super majors in a row 😭
Smash n splash 5: first falcon champion since 2005
Smash summit 8: first (correct me if I'm wrong) ever Pikachu champion
This is the greatest pop off of all time. Ironic considering he doesn't even move.
What a guy
This did not feel like it happened 3 years ago lmao.
Axe laid the groundwork for mid tiers and now we have Amsa. I fucking love melee
Axe looking like Ash after leaving Charizard, GREAT STUFF, he's awesome!
2 years later and this is still the greatest pop off. He is so incredibly happy but so stunned beyond belief at the same time. Still love watching it.
56:30 "2019 Melee is ridiculous" *looks at stream clock*
I have never heard commentary with this many people doing so well letting every single person speak and get input in a natural, free flowing way. It's also awesome to hear commentary that's actually invested in the match! 👍
The hate towards Hbox is slowly dying, Mango won a major, Leffen is back, PP is back (streaming), Falcon won a major and PIKACHU won a major!
This is the best timeline, Melee is sick
I liked this video because it's where Axe show's such heartfelt emotion after playing Pikachu for 12+ years and FINALLY winning a major tournament.
Wow a grand finals that doesn’t have a Fox, that’s 2019 for you
Still one of my favorite melee moments so far ever. 🎉 can’t wait to see him do it again.
now aMSa needs to win. Add Yoshi to the club
I still return to this video even though I’m an ultimate player because I love seeing the emotions he’s feeling after the set. I still cry
52:02 if you look up axe.pizza you go to axe's twitch page
Melee is the best fighting game in history in my opinion. It's been out for 18 years, died out, then had a revival with Evo.
It only gets more exciting to watch, 18 years later and still appreciating it's depth. Then you have storylines like this, before 2019 I never thought a Falcon or Pikachu would win a major in the current meta, It's so inspiring.
I like other games and follow them, but Melee 2019 is ridiculous.
I mean... we all know how different the outcome wouldve been if Armada was still playing. ...or even if Leffen didnt take a break for ultimate.
HBox: When I'm down-
Axe: NO, when I'm DOWN
I didnt really get that
I played against Axe in 2006 in Tuscon, Arizona when he was barely ranked in AZ. Crazy to see how far he has come. So cool to see him and all his grinding pay off finally. Grats man!!!!
