    Used to pick chanterelles and pine on the Olympic peninsula in Washington back in the 80s. Pines were much less common than chanterelles. Both delicious.

    I have just moved to Port Alberni from the coast. It has been a really rough year for me and I am looking forward to getting out in the trees, petting some moss and breathing that amazing air!

      @@northernwildharvest Over the years I have been to Cathedral Grove many times on my way to Long Beach. One of my favourite places on the planet is Long Beach IN THE WINTER! So moving to Port Alberni has some extra perks.

      @@dannsherstone1037 Love Long Beach! I can remember back when it wasn't so busy and people would park their vehicles down on the beach while having bonfires. Hope Port Alberni works out for you! :)

      @@northernwildharvest I remember as a child camping right on Long Beach in a tent trailer! We bought a bucket of clams and made chowder over an open fire. There was sand in the bottom of the soup pot!

      They sure are! Here in Colorado, chanterelles don't get nearly that big due to the lack of moisture (in region I hunt). They usually dry up before they can fully mature. Pines are my favorite to hunt! Well done!

    Spreading the mature fruiting bodies about is a good idea, since the only two papers I could find that measured spore dispersal nearly all the spores fell within a few meters of the fungi. So moving spores about is a good idea, and I suspect insects and/or animals play a bigger part than we realize.
    Of course it is likely given it is mycorrhizal that it has already spread pretty far underground.
    And yeap I've had wrinkly feet from being out in the wet looking for fungi!

    ? why do you not cut the mushroom out if the ground? , the stems are so sandy

    • @northernwildharvest
      @northernwildharvest  2 місяці тому

      We do cut many different types. Matsutake buttons are preferred with the whole stem intact

    Are there any mushrooms that when harvesting shouldn’t be put next to each other!

    • @northernwildharvest
      @northernwildharvest  3 місяці тому

      Some of the ones we don’t harvest, such as fly agaric should be kept separate. Also blue staining boletes should be separate in larger amounts, because they can stain other mushrooms.
