I really think it's awesome that this mime is expanding his skills into computer repair... it's gotta be hard to stand around all day, trying to open doors that aren't there or feeling up walls on a non-existent cubic room... Good for you for having the courage to be different, Mime!

But just so you know, all jokes aside, this video was a big help for me to finally disassemble my dv9500. It's insane that to get to the motherboard you have to remove EVERY SINGLE COMPONENT and SCREW... Yeah, I hope I will be able to put it all back together, fingers crossed!

np, I understand it :) Unfortunately I didn't make video of assembling this laptop, but I hope you handle this :) Good luck!

@@theblackcatpt I personally keep a PDF of the service manual on hand when I'm doing this. This video, however, is better. There's a gotcha in the manual. The screws that hold in the wifi card also secure the top cover. The manual would have you try to remove the top cover before taking out those screws. Great way to ruin the machine. The video shows the removal of the screws in question, not to mention the wifi card itself, very early on.
      Good job, How-FixIT!

HP should make the fans more modular and accessible for cleaning and replacement. They should also support their products regardless of age.

Real complicated, sure wish you could have talked through the video though and showed the dirt area once you took the fan apart, other than that, nice video. My 2007 HP Pavillion 9700 series gets hot then shuts down after 10 minutes I've tried my air compressor but ? can stuff still be trapped even after trying to blow it out from several angles with an air compressor not taken apart?

Just what I needed! Thankyou so much for a great video!
Hmmm, my current laptop only takes 5 mins lol! Oh well, I was given this 9500 for free, and its overheating, so thought I better give her a clean, also hoping I can upgrade ram and hardrive too, especially as I am used to 16g ram and 1tb hard drive!
what type of gloves are you wearing, please?

Hi! very useful video. I have some questions:
My dv9700t is overheating on left side, which I asume is the GPU or CPU chip, probably the fan in not working fine. There is a way to get a fan replacement, can you please suggest a powerfull one? how can I test if was already removed from laptop?
there is one black cable (min 13:00) that seems melted, maybe because of overheating, whats that cable for?
whats its name, ir order to get a new one? which caracteristics do I have to search for?
    Thanks in advance my friend

    • @howfixit
      @howfixit  9 років тому

actually as I know all laptop fans are standart (they differents between laptop models but there is no more or less powerful fans), so you just need to buy the fan for your laptop model, if your fan doesn't work normally.
Cable can be melted because of overheating, as I understand of your message you mean power button cable. To replace it you try to search it as "dv9700 power button cable" or using its part number: 431437-001 - as I it remember but it can be wrong

The big thick cable that goes from the screen to the connector on the far left of the back of the laptop, what direction should that be pulled? It appears as if you are pulling it straight up, but I cannot tell. The two flat black cables that run from the MB up onto the plastic and then back down to the MB, that don't have ZIF sockets on the bottom and are glued down to the plastic bevel, how did you deal with them? I have a DV9610US and it looks more or less the same inside and I think the thermal paste has dried out and I need to clean the fan, but I got 1/2 way through and just didn't want to break the big black cable by pulling it in the wrong direction and those 2 flat flex ribbon cables scared me as well.

I noticed the blue pad on the video chip's heat sink and I noticed you didn't put thermal compound on the video chip. The video chip is well known to be the problem in these laptops and is a fairly common point of failure for the machines. What is the blue thing and why didn't you put heat sink compound on the video chip?

you lack the intelligence to actually fix it your self based off your comment my friend. trash it and save your self the empty feeling you receive from hours of hope of fixing to just making it worse.. leave tech work to the tech people

Now that HP has dropped support for this unit like a hot potato, do you know of anyplace where someone could go to look up compatibility--which motherboards are, for example, compatible with which WIFI cards, or which ones accept a fingerprint reader?

    • @newhampshirelifestyle4233

HP should support their products regardless of age. That is why I am Dell customer now.

Heat transfer paste. It is often also applied to the CPU. The DV9500 is notorious for having its GPU overheat and suddenly shutting down in the middle of operation. Heat transfer paste between the GPU and the heat sink helps to mitigate this problem.
