Yeah man 100% I've been fishing for along time and still a very average fisherman....... this dude is like my go to for learning stuff I've never known...... I tell people all the time just because you've done something for along time doesn't mean you are good at it
@@trevorbraden5448 I came to the replies to say this exact same thing. You took the words right from me... Ty is my go-to for learning techniques, about how to use a fishfinder, knot tying, knot strength testing etc. etc... He is the Man...
My son and I started fishing bladed jigs several years ago. We started with the original chatterbait and the strike king pure poison. The poison seemed to catch more fish and we caught many good fish over the next 5-6 years. The 2 big problems with the pure poison is no bait keeper to hold the bait on so you go thru many trailer baits. Also, it's slow to get the blade moving sometimes. We didn't pay much attention to either until we finally used a jackhammer. The ease of fishing it was such a pleasant surprise. It can be used in much shallower water and thicker grass. I don't necessarily think the jackhammer catches more than the poison, but it's so much easier to fish. Also, the trailer baits that are saved helps to offset the extra cost of the hammer. Also, if you need a bait to fish ultra shallow or ultra slow, the strike king rage blade is the trick. It's odd looking but it catches fish in areas you can't hardly fish other baits. Reel it in at about half the speed of other bladed jigs. At a medium retrieve speed you can basically fish it like a wake bait. Thanks Tyler for all the info and many great videos. Keep up the good work.
Blows my mind how the thunder cricket sounds just like an echoing cricket, you really are the best at helping anyone from a beginner to advanced fisherman understand their equipment and get a better feel for when and WHY we use it. Thanks for helping me improve my technique!
I love the underwater footage of the different bladed jigs. They are all amazing and great baits to use. On another note, the Googan Squad Clickbait can be adjusted. Bend the wire up to run deeper or bend the wire down to run shallower. Thanks for another great video!! You are killing it!!
I bend them up straight out of the box or they just wanna rise like a top water. But the fall of the clickbait is where it's at I've caught a few fish just straight retrieves then just let it fall to bottom then retrieve let fall all the way down
The z man line of chatters are my go to... I use the jackhammer the custom and just started using the crosseyez... I also throw the thunder cricket here and there... and to me they have the best sound underwater... I enjoy seeing the underwater footage of any bait really... thanks Tyler! 👍
I did the same thing in a large swimming pool with chatterbaits of different makes & even twitch baits. Jackhammer proved really well. Thunder Cricket did impress as well. Trailers will give different results as well. Kinda hard to say which one is better. Jackhammers are a top seller. It's also made with a titanium. That's the major difference. But I have caught more fish on the custom chatterbaits than anyother one. I guess it's a matter of condition and confidence. Great video
Great unbiased comparison Tyler. I really appreciate the extent to which you tested and compared these popular baits, very well done ! Not to be a “kiss up” but your channel is one of the most informative bass fishing channels out there. Thank you !
I really like your videos! I learnt a lot for german Bass fishing... We've got only one spezies of Bass, it's called in german "Flussbarsch" that means riverbass... Ist a beautiful fisch with black stripes. I used the technique you use for your bass and it works... Thank you man and greatings from germany... 👊
Great Job comparing these bladed jigs, I have only used the Jackhammer and the Terminator Shudderblade, but I’ve also used Picasso’s Shockblade designed by Aaron Marten and I have caught good fish with it. I’m new to your channel, and I appreciate it and all the effort you put in to make it as good as it is 🙌💥🙌
Also 1 thing I forgot most importantly the countless hours of your technique an skill in fishing or whatever your demonstrating is solid so what you teach is helpful
Love this style of video and would like to see more of them in the future. I've heard a lot of folks talk about the googan bait riding up in the water column and I believe that they actually put out some guidance on how to "tune" the blade if you want it to stay deeper at a higher speed.
Great video Tyler. I love fishing chatterbaits and this video really keys in on the differences between them! BTW...anybody else see that huge blow up on the surface at 8:25 ???
Great video! Always love the underwater videos so you can see the action and sound of baits you may want to try. Keep rolling man, your channel is outstanding.
I got a thunder cricket in a mystery fishing kit and I caught my first bladed jig fish on it. I eventually got it snagged and didn't think it was that big of a deal until I went to get one online. If i would have known how expensive it was i would have gone in and gotten it.
I always use Z MAN stuff and works great for the price point. The OG chatter bait, eye strike, Flashback I know it will work out for me in my area. my son like the Googan and strike king everyone is different types. Now I know how it sounds nice video this is going to help me and my son on which one to use if need to. People I know just want the new one's and don't know why to switch or buy them. Good video
One thing you missed on the components is that the Thunder Cricket and the Jackhammer have the blade directly attached to the hook, which is why the blades on those to start vibrating immediately. Great channel, and great content. One other thing on the Jackhammer is that it hunts like crazy on speed changes. Keep it up!
I make a couple of mods to my Chatterbaits. The first one is to flex the blade back and forth to loosen the action (and I have noticed that it knocks the paint off where it hits the jig head and curls out the bottom tips of the metal blade). The second mod is to take a pair of plairs to bend the edges of the metal blade into a cup, inwards, on both sides and the top of the blade (2 mm from the edges).
Yes thank you for that tutorial about the jigs I have a googan Squad Chatterbait and yes it does ride high in the water I thought it was me but since I have seen it from you and heard from you now I know that's the way the improvements apart ChatterBait works thanks for the tip on chatterbaits
This video is awesome! It's very interesting to see how lures, that look so similar to a beginner, can retrieve so differently. I've always been a fan of the thunder cricket, but I may have to go pick up a googan now

Great vid comparing baits. I like how you broke each one down and compared them to each other. A lot of other people get so caught up on name brand and have nothing good to say about any other brand. Thanks for such an awesome vid👍👍
Great video. I wasn't crazy about the clickbaits rise. I think it has its time and place, early spring as you said - I think personally I'll use it mostly early to mid summer to fish over the top of thicker grass but if someone had money to try only one bladed jig I wouldn't be suggesting the clickbait.
Great idea to do a comparison of the baits which included an underwater video of the individual actions with the respective sounds. An overhead angle of view might be easier to obtain if you could perform demonstrations in a more controlled environment such as in a swimming pool. Nonetheless, you have provided an excellent video.
The Strike King tour grade rage bladesa another real good bladed jig. I use thr thunder cricket, jackhammer & I got a guy that makes a bad to the bone custom on ebay too

Hey Tyler speaking of bladed jigs and their hunting action, or lack of it. I was wondering if you have found yourself using the Hybrid Hunter instead of bladed jig in dirty water or on days where wind is an issue. I have had a tremendous amount of success throwing the HH where i would traditionally throw a jackhammer. Would appreciate your thoughts on this.
When it comes to bladed jigs I only throw jackhammers....Rayburn is flooded right now over 10ft...been pitching brush. A lot of the lake has 50+ yards of flooded brush 8-12ft deep up into where the banks used to be...I throw jackhammers in the lanes all around the brush using a destroyer p5 blade...it’s only 6’8 so it’s super accurate and skips under over hangs very well...anyway I also pitch it. Caught a bunch of 5+ pound LMBs pitching the jack hammer with a super brush hog as a trailer. It kinda does it all. I’ve really widened my range with a chatterbait this year.

The big problem with most bladed jigs is how easy and often they hang up when fishing around wood and sometimes rock. My best areas to fish it is in and around grass or weeds. You have to be extra careful when fishing around wood from the bank. Ponds are usually low risk and easier to fish without hangups. Even fishing heavy grass from the bank, I would recommend using 20lbs test line. I usually use 15lbs test when fishing from a boat where I can retrieve it. Hope this helps a little.
