    Purchased the drive based on this review.
    I know it may be a bit overkill, but I intend on using it in a Sabrent USB 3.2 external enclosure (solid aluminum with direct contact with NAND+controller to dissipate heat). At some point down the road, it may be transplanted into a proper M.2 and used as a system drive, so I wanted to think ahead a bit.
    Great review :)

      thank you mate. Might be a little overkill in a USBC but as you say, it will be great for future system use and at the price it is at it makes sense!

    Hi mate, great review! I was planning on getting this for my Blade 16, but I noticed that the Lexar runs much hotter than the samsung drive. I was wondering if you noticed any issues in regards to this such as impaired thermals or discomfort near the palmrest? Or is the temperature not an issue in regular, non-benchmarking, usage?

    • @mashextra
      @mashextra  26 днів тому

      I am actually currently running it as my games drive in my blade 18 and in day to day use I have not experienced any issues or had the palm rest heating up. I cannot advise on the blade 16 as that one has 2 drives stacked but on my blade 16 which has two drives installed again, it didnt seem to make any difference. My blade 16 left palm rest gets hot regardless with heavy gaming but not in general use

      @@mashextra Thanks! Tho it is strange that it's your left palm rest that gets warm, as on my unit, the right palm rest gets warm under regular use cases.

    The 990 and 850x were tested with heatsinks? Just trying to get an idea of the test condition for the temperature as that is a big gap between the 990 and lexar.
    Thanks

    I bought one that came with a heatsink. I assume I'll have to remove the integrated heatsink as it will not fit in my ASUS ROG G15 G513QM laptop?

    Yea looking at this to replace a old 2.5 MX500 (295AUD) also a bit stumped should i cough up extra for DRAM 4tb wonder if it have more of inpack for direct storage games

    • @mashextra
      @mashextra  8 місяців тому +1

      that's something I haven't tested yet, but as more games come out with it I will give it a try. For the price though I think this one is a winner, so much faster than the p3plus but only slightly more expensive

    As always a thorough review. Looks like the Samsung 990 Pro 4tb is going to remain the single sided NVMe king for a while.

    • @mashextra
      @mashextra  10 місяців тому +3

      Yes, I am pretty sure it will. This drive is definitely good value for money though as it is as cheap as the entry P3 Plus yet so much better

    Hi, I have a ASUS TUF Gaming Z790-PLUS WIFI motherboard. This drive is NVME 2.0 for the 4TB the other ones are 1.4 probably my motherboard would be compatible, but can't find out exactly atm. Maybe by coincidence Z790 LM790 like the same number?!? Thanks already

    Bit confused about the heatsink on the lexar ?
    Laptop = Katana GF66 11UE
    Can i run it with a heatsink or do i need one without a heatsink ?
    Can i remove the heatsink on it IF it does not fit cos of thickness ?

    • @user-bh9re5rr6t
      @user-bh9re5rr6t Місяць тому

      Just ordered the one with a heatsink as i saw in other video's that it would be easy to remove the heatsink. So i just try fitting it with the heatsink, and if it wont fit cos of the laptop being too thin, then i just remove the heatsink. So that can cost me 30 Euro, but worth the gamble may it fit and keep the M2 cooler.
      I can fit 2 M2 discs in my laptop and will so figure using heatsinks may be helpful as 2 of them doubles the heat inside of my laptop. So figure best put this one in my empty 2nd M2 connector to see if it fits, then at a later time open it again and update the system drive and ram that i also want to upgrade to 64 GB to make it a good music production laptop.
      Think i will use this Lexar as my soundbanks drive and later upgrade the os drive now 500 GB M2 to or another lexar or the 990 4 TB Samsung. But first testing the Lexar and seeing if these heatsinks fit as i never changed an M2 or worked with heatsinks.
      Hope my virtual windows will also be able to read my 2nd M2 then i should be able to use my soundbank drive on my real windows 11 AND the windows 10 that i run on virtual windows as some Music making tools run better on Win 10. Also never tried that as i normally just use an external USB drive with Virtual windows if i need to use a big soundbank.
      Just handier to have some TB inside the laptop and i can always just take the soundbank M2 out and put it in a new laptop. So figure it be a useful investment.

      all teh drives that are supplied with heatsinks are too thick as they are made for desktops. some laptops provide the heatsinks on teh spare slots and the laptops that dont I buy copper heatsink plates from amazon. The gen 4 drives really do need a heatsink as they do run hot

    • @user-bh9re5rr6t
      @user-bh9re5rr6t Місяць тому

      @@mashextra Thanks, ok then i just do not screw the heatsink on, and put it in my laptop without a heatsink. Then test run it for a while and if i get to high temperatures then i give those coper plates a look and add them ones i do my next upgrade when adding my 2nd 4 TB m2 system drive and up my ram to 64 GB.
      I just want to upgrade it to the max as most times i keep working on my computers for 5-8 years before buying a new one. AND i can just take the drives out and put them in a to come new computer. So seems the best choice to put 2 M2 of 4 TB each in it, and max out the ram, makes the laptop easier to sell in the future and its only 60 or so more compared to 32 gb upgrade.
      Thanks for your advice, then i wasted 30 bucks, but heck then i can use the heatsink if i ever want to put it in a PC. Having the spare parts can come in handy !
      One problem fixed
      Up to the next as my usb-C port does not send out the VGA signal to hook up a 2nd external screen.
      The HDMI port gives me a 2nd desktop, but i want to try to get a 3th desktop. I expected my laptop to send out desktop 1 to an external screen through my Usb-C port. But the internal GPU does not send its signal out only the gamer GPU that sends out HDMI for desktop 2.
      But just found there may be external GPU-Adapters that may give me that 3th Desktop. Its just for music making so not gaming, thus do not need great picture quality, just to have synthesizers on different screens then the arranging-recording program. Figure this 40 bucks tool may do the trick, so checking that out next. StarTech USB to VGA adapter
