Dick Van Dyke is a world treasure. Still going, into his 90s. When he does trip over that final ottoman in the sky, those who remain will have only the pleasure of watching his many great performances for the rest of time.
His dancing, like that of the other tall musicals actor Ray Bolger (Scarecrow in the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz) had an uncanny flexibility and ability to sway against gravity.
@SvendBosanovski...Totally agree with you love. Quite possibly underrated and still going strong. I just love my Musicals especially and in my opinion his accent in mary Poppins just went by the wayside for me (it was acceptable cockney) because his dancing and charisma outshone!! Donald O'connor in singing in the rain was underrated too in my opinion, even though I adore Gene Kelly!😊
why do all this when we have independent women dancing for men who don't need a man to impress them for one night. all my independent women make men dance like clowns for them.
Dick is a happy face inside and out which is why he is still alive and well. Yes he's had a dark time but he pulled through it with that irrepressible love of life and enjoying himself, which in these horrible times we all need a little bit of what he has in spades. This is fantastic, whimsical and inventive, I must watch the whole film, I love drawing the smiley and frowny faces on screen, and the shadow happy Janet Leigh. But no wonder she's frowning, she's just escaped Anthony Perkins, obviously!
This is really sweet. I'm glad we have these innocent, feel-good movies to look back on today in this miserable world we live in (not to say it wasn't also miserable back then, but it's more difficult to support yourself now). You could never make a movie like this today that wasn't a parody.
@Awedda.. For Sure there is an afterlife! The only reason I'm making a comment is because I have just noticed that you have asked that question a couple of times within a 2 year period. But that is just my opinion on life. Just decide yourself luv!!😊🤗
🙂Dick Van Dyke my favorite🙂 Ahh, don't make em' like that anymore. 🏆 Goodness through and through, I for one feel honored that we have all been blessed to have him entertain us during our lifetime. He is magical 🌟 ⭐️ 🌠 💫 😇🙏 Love you man❤
The world has enjoyed 3 distinctive, enduring and wonderful dancers. First was elegant Astaire, secondly was the vibrant Kelly, and third that elasticized Van Dyke. They were what dancing IS all about - grace, rythm, strength and discipline. We will always love and appreciate your talent - thanks to UA-cam we can watch your genius at work - anytime. We love(d) you all.
There now sits a UA-cam a reprise of his exact performance of this number done live for the Ed Sullivan Show. Unfortunately its a comment- free clip. So I am left to write what I saw, there over here. It showcases all the gifts that made Van Dyke a true genius. He sings well enough, and he is more a hoofer than a classical dancer but as a physical comedian and actor, there is no man better!. The way he angles his body and uses his trunk arms and legs as he dances, the plasticity of his face and the comedic timing are perfection. He squeezes every ounce of potential for humor that anyone can envision. Just brilliant .
Excellent stoked groovy musical job fellows!! The thing that makes Dick Van Dyke so fantastic is his absolute perfect blending of physicality and subtlety. Amazing...!
@Krizia RP.. Me too luv!! I just think that any song that makes you feel happy is good..Louis Armstrong singing It's A Wonderful World and similar songs I hope will eventually become our children's future!😊🤗
For a family reunion two weeks ago we went to Danville, IL where Mr. Van Dyke (and my Dad) grew up. The Fischer Theater where he performed is a beauty, and he's donated a lot of his memorabilia to it. I will have to force myself put on a happy face when I hear he's finally left us, but I know that's what he'd want. What an entertainer, as were his brother (who apparently was kicked out of Danville High School for riding a motorcycle down the hall) and Dad.
Good gracious, I need to watch this movie. This is one gorgeous song and the visuals are beautifully edited. Paramount in my decision is the inestimable talent of Dick Van Dyke.
What a great question. There is definitely something beyond the death of the body. I don't know positively what that might be. I suspect it could be transpersonal, meaning that the personality we have in this life is no longer a limitation, as we move onto another level. People who have used psychedelics might have had foreshadowings of that. BTW, I do not have experience with drugs. //
My two favorite entertainers! Dick Van Dyke and Danny Kaye! Both geniuses. Dick is more subtle in his approch, while Danny is all over the place! They absolutely know their craft and kept people puting on a happy face. No way do you find this in Hollyweird today. Too much violance and not enough smart acting. RIP to the two D's. ♥️🙏🏼♥️🥰🥰
Sing this through gritted teeth as it's your alarm clock song, whilst washing the dishes and making coffee/breakfast for the most ungrateful person in the world.
This is just so great! I have mental and anxiety issues. I have to assume that anyone who gave this a THUMBS DOWN is way more mental than I am. Thanks for the post!
Almost everyone is familiar with the opening line to this song "Gray Skies are gonna clear up"...but for some reason it seems they changed it for the movie version.
I sometimes imagine me and my neighbor, the young man who does yard work whose name I don't know, singing this song and riding in a wheelbarrow at the end.

My favorite movies with him are Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
And then the Jokers of Batman movies greatly hurt the message of the song.
The fact that his name is "Dick"
It’s amazing that he is actually not a trained dancer but his experience with being a mime gave him the ability for great body movement…
Dick was one of the great all-rounders. He could sing, dance, do comedy or more serious roles so brilliantly.
The only thing he can't do is a proper Cockney accent.

Well, everything except for a decent English accent
@@SavvyMuhon It didn’t help that the person who trained him for his Cockney accent was Irish actor J Pat O’ Malley.
Dick Van Dyke has such a soothing voice!

Literally the song that made Dick Van Dyke's career. Brilliant.
