I got a minor family of the house of glass as my main faction in my campaign. Non-stop note-taking throughout the video lol. I thought I'd read everything on them but you give so many cool ideas. Love the conjecture section too. I'd love to have a mysterious silver-suited NPC they come across in battle as like an exotic to mess with them.
I'm having it so post civil-war, House Lontane chose their new leaders based mostly on how badly they wanted to screw Harrison Armory with the nearest long-spool antiship cannon. To the point the new guy will spend most of their yearly space yacht budget on funding Anti-Armory rebels whenever they pop up. Also a cool NPC idea: Disgraced House Lontane noble who made a bid for leadership during the civil war, did not succeed, and as 'punishment' got exiled with a destroyer/yacht, some support staff, and secret orders to go mess with HA by all means available. House Lontane is no longer legally responsible for that guy's actions; so no Mr Harrison we will not reimburse you for all those dead legionnaires. I don't care that those shells were stamped "Da Lontane Con Affetto" it was not us and you can't prove otherwise.
This helped fully convince me to use the dune TRPG to make a small house for my players and base a campaign on that. The pageantry and backstabbing. The simmering rage beneath that charming smile. This is what space feudalism is all about!
Materiel, quality, showmanship, and propaganda. I dig it. The petty can be a hell of good game start for a campaign with your group helping more so as nutrals to the inner house argument so something can be settled. Man, I really want to read Sword of Glass. That's a heck of a title. edit: It has to end with the protagonist and their rival/love interest (who has been built up over the series in a will they won't they) engaged in a tragic duel that pushes their custom chassis to the limit and beyond. So far beyond that both chassis fail, and the two pilots engage in a duel with swords. Bonus points if the final blow in the duel is never seen, nor who strikes it, and the epilogue shows a statue of both pilots on the world they fought for.
I'm just picturing two Lancers fighting so close that even a Blackbeard pilot would be uncomfortable, as they try to stay inside the minimum fire distance of each other's weapons systems, relying solely on melee skill and precise dodges that result in the battle field being filled with the screeching of metal flexing in ways it wasn't truly designed for, a symphony of tortured steel playing over the growing roar of their cooling systems trying and failing to keep up with the heat their reactors and motors are radiating, both mechs giving way to a slow but steady tide of papercuts, glancing blows that seal a cooling vent or damage a servo control cable, small errors compounding into more crippling blows as both the pilots' skills and mechs' abilities are put to a tragic test, both mechs trailing steam by the time they finally seize up, hardware safety systems forcing them to shutdown just instants before they both would strike a fatal blow on the other, their pilots wasting no time in joining their swords, blades weaving in a deadly dance, so close they're almost kissing, neither of them truly wanting to kill the other but their circumstances and matched skills leaving them no choice, pilot suits slowly staining from silver-white to crimson from a million near misses, neither letting up even as their strength fails them, a final desperate strike from each, to die on each other's swords, their final breath in each other's arms, their lives departed moments before news of their factions' calling of an armistice could reach them...
I love watching these Lancer videos! I found Lancer about a year ago and haven’t had a chance to play it with my RP group. It’s such an awesome setting!
Just had a cool lancer idea, not really related to the videos topic but something potentially cool Osiris Syndrome: A condition in which the pilots of Horus mechs occasionally keep fighting when they should be dead, their mechs continuing to function as normal when they should be a heap of spare parts Could be fleshed out a bit more Maybe it has a psychological indication that its manifesting beforehand and there;s some sort of special condition for each type of horus mech to actually shut them down
I can see this most with balrogs. The nanite swarm. Were in activating the special after say pilot death, the swarm reforms in pure rage. The pilot now forever one with their mechine. Having basicly become a NHP. That's not exactly collapsed but could as long as they remember their humanity/think they are still human. So where they maybe now always semi permanently tied to the core of their balrog, they now exist as one with it.
@@lechking941 Likely would not happen, considering RA. Or maybe it could! would be an interesting plot hook, having to deal with the consequences of accidentally invoking the wrath of a God.
When you mentioned the jewel mining, the first thing I thought of was a mech cut from various jewels. Various types used to form the various components, with different types bringing different weapon effects, and at the center a massive diamond larger than a person, hollowed out and housing the lancer themselves. A moving stained glass window, with a generator either on the back or attached to the pilot providing function to what would otherwise be a fragile showpiece. As the mech takes damage, chips flake off the gems and consequently stop functioning as the power can't be routed as precisely as needed. And the ultimate shame, to lose such a priceless mech.
so as a fun note. I started as a union master engineer, (I was head engi on the landmark ship for our wallflower start) and one of our players was house of glass minor house noble. I am currently now one of their artisans, and I have created my own version of the Enkidu and Tokugawa, the Homusobi. "Integrating the prototype Enkidu's aggressive systems with the mass produced frame Tokugawa's barely stable heat systems provided a serious challenge. Turning the problem into a solution however, provided a creative pressurized venting system, venting heat constantly created propulsive blasts that were strong enough to move the frame when kept to minimal sizes. Utilizing that to create a rapid movement system allows the pilot to react much more quickly than normal with just motorized mechanics. The system however has much more potential when turning off reactor limits, as It causes the machine to move at a speed that rivals human thought. Only a highly skilled pilot can handle that kind of potential to its fullest, an average pilot would be consumed in their own flame." it is built to win duels, take down heavy targets while minimizing the damage it receives with a parry reaction built into the frame. hearing that I perfectly fit the lore of the house of glass just makes me happy.
