Best drivers ed video EVER! Thank god for anti-lock breaks but they're not 100%. Pumping the breaks still makes good sense. Listen to Jackie, drive with finesse!
Thanks for uploading this. What brilliant guidance from Jackie Stewart. He really is a clear thinking with the talent to understand, explain and demonstrate the processes in a way that is easy understand.
Would say that this is out of date - no mention of ABS (its 1987!), suspensions are better designed, as is safety of car both outside and inside, and importantly, need to say tyre tread should be 3mm minimum in wet or icy conditions. Otherwise, the basics that talk about forward planning, being smooth and avoiding distractions. Importantly, nowadays we have sims and karts where you people can experience more driving - also didn't mention alcohol?
Master class. Manual transmission is so much more reliable, if you are using it correctly, and keeps you involved. If you have to understand what you are asking the vehicle to do you pay more attention and most people drive better as a result.
Nice video by Sir Jackie. Thanks for sharing. His advice is also true even when it comes to drifting. Smooth transition of weight is the key to success regardless of what kind of driving you do.
Great video from a man who really knows what he is talking about.. There are cars today that i really think should be resrticted because they are jusj far too powerfull for the ordinary guy in the street tomget into and drive like they see in the adverts. Here in lies a problem, just the difference between a family sallon and a sports car are very quickly obvious, the sports car is lighter and have the power to unstick the tyres from the road surface, and once that happens , the driver is no longer in control of the car, its the other way round, and thisvwas never surposed to be the perpose. If we look at motorcycles , there is a ruling about this, and i would say that this thinking has saved thousands of lives, anyone who has ridden a motor cycle with a big engine will know the feeling of the back wheel trying hard to overtake the front one, its called kicking out and is caused by too much power going to the drive wheel. The other thing is we have all seen motor cyclists racing and seen them go into a corner with the bike almost side on to the road and the rider almost sitting on the engine or hanging of the bike, by the way something you should never try and emulate, just chaging your seat should be all that is required on a road bike. A car is not that different, it tends to compress the inside suspension on the side closest to the bend. I felt one of the best tricks that thir pro driver showed was the orange in a bowl, this takes some doing but as they say practice makes perpect, or ot least improves driving skills, and i think should be included in driving tests, even though oldess like me would find it very taxing let alone a new driver, but it really does have some merit. All in all, there could not be a better man to talk through this than Jackie Stewart, his records really hold him up as being one of the greats jin the sport , and despite driving most of my life, it made me very aware of how close i have come to situations that were not desirable during my driving history, and even encoraged me to give this test ago myself. Thanks a lot for a really good video, plus all the enjoyment Jackie has given me through his motor raciing days, i dont think I mist many of his races.
at about 27min in Jackie lifted off the brake mid turn lifting the load off the front suspension. This would make the car less stable. In this case, trail braking would create a smoother transition.
Jim Clark and Fangio would be the two drivers I'd have in my team, if they were driving all eras of cars in all circuits and conditions. Prost and Stewart would be the other two. Senna and Schumacher I couldn't stand, as they would cheat and connive their way around to success. Moss and Lauda would also make a great team. Colin Chapman Ken Tyrrell would be the team managers.
I don't understand what you mean. He was demonstrating oversteer. As such the rear will rotate significantly away from where driver wants the nose to go. He managed to induce that. Job done!
4:00 I dislike his seat position, which is too reclined. You sometimes need to bend forward to see around the A-frame, which is difficult if the seat is not fairly upright.
@@thecommission6662as time has gone on, I think the assessment of Nico Rosberg as an 'F1 great' has to be revised - upwards.. To match and beat Hamilton in the peak of the Mercedes F1 era is one heck of an achievement. Only Alonso has been able to be as close to Hamilton in the same car - and there is no doubt that Alonso is a 'F1 Great'. BTW - I'm dismissing Russell's out pointing Hamilton in the 2022 Mercedes. I'm happy to believe that Hamilton was doing the bulk of the work to help the Team to sort out its design issues.
I could listen to Jackie talk about anything all day long.
this should be a mandatory video for every single kid in drivers ed to watch.
All cars have ABS now, so much of this video need updating.
I know!!
100% they should have to pass the “dish test” too.
A great educational film… Driving with smoothness… Driving with finesse..... thank you for this marvelous contribution Sir Jackie !
Best driving instructor ever. Period. The original Stig. but with a voice. LOL
An antiquated production with timeless information.
Sir Jackie, one among the greatest drivers ever! Timeless!
Yes, Jackie, with, of course, Jim, Stirling , Fangio, old Prosty, Niki, Ayrton, oh, so few true greats.

I had this on VHS as a teen, still applies!
Watched this as a teenager, makes even more sense now.
And that Trans Am Mustang still sounds just as impressive 😉
I was benefited so much by learning what Jackie said: smooth and clean driving technique.
When car, driver, track layout, track surface, and aerodynamics are all acting and cooperating as one. That's the essence of it all 👍
Brilliant! Should be required watching for every motor car driver.
Smoooooth!
wow hes one smooth driver. agreed with the other comments this video should be part of any driver learning and useful for current drivers too!
got my 17 year old son watching this as a requirement for the keys
Good Dad right there.
Good man!
My 1st video on how to drive fast, and safe.

UltimatumNo5 dude you'r just wrong, and btw.. abs is a LAST RESORT. If you need it, you are doing something WRONG
Jackie is such pure class.. I’m a proud ford owner and love his partnership with ford
such a treasure on youtube..honestly! so glad I found this :-)
thanks Jackie steward! you're a great master of performance driving. this video is a golden oldschool educational
Best of luck to you, Sir Jackie!
I grew up watching this, turned me into a terror on the country roads, i loved this video
at 43 minutes, it’s basically the same technique as the water cup run Takumi used in Initial D to drive so quickly
Awesome!!! Love it !!! I’m making a video about the water cup technique and this video was suggested !!! Awesome!!!!
Just finished the video last night for the water cup and my reference to this movie . ua-cam.com/video/m_2U21mW0rY/v-deo.html
Thank God i found this. Going for my license in a week or so.
Eternal truths. Great video, even decades after.

This should be Department of Motor Vehicles mandatory viewing....
Thanks for uploading! Great educational stuff!
This is a must to any driver
Thank you, I have been looking for this video for decades!!!
I love this video
"Jim clark was everything I aspired to be as a racing driver and as a man" - Jackie Stewart.
Class act.
Thank you for posting this..Class ...
Gentle read "trashing the shit out of this Detroit iron". So cool and good to see.
thank you. great advice from the legend.
Smoothness is of the essence
Thank you!!! SIR JACKIE Like in Shot Gun Sports Smooth IS Fast . SO TRUE 👍 AND BALANCE.
Did you know that Sir Jackie is also a champion sport shooter?
This should be mandatory viewing for a new driver license applicant.
I have to show my wife this video...and she is a deputy sheriff.
i want to meet him ...out for lunch - no restaurant on earth would give a bill at his table ...me flying across 6timezones ... yeah
Absolutely fookin magic .gllleet vid. Always a glleet day for motacar lacing with wee Jackie
Thanks for posting; excellent stuff.
This should be required study for driving tests.
Every new driver should watch this…
The Legend❤

F1's smoothest: Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart, Alain Prost, Jenson Button (also Fangio and Moss)
You can add Rubens Barrichello and Sergio Perez to that lost! 👌

@@Shiggiesmalls02I wouldn't argue with that. He was untouchable.
Notice a tankslapper at 30:58. Funny how they included this little mistake from Jackie. I don't think it was meant to be there :D.
Maybe to show that even the pros get it wrong.
I don't understand what you mean. He was demonstrating oversteer. As such the rear will rotate significantly away from where driver wants the nose to go. He managed to induce that. Job done!
That's is a sweet looking stock car.
What is the car Jackie drives on the circuit in this video, the white one with number 2 on side? :-)
RRARMS that was the Roush racing mercury Capri. I worked for Roush when these cars were racing back in 85- 90. They were incredible cars back then
This is very 80’s
Think of anything else you'd do in life. Take golf, for example, or rocket sled testing.
Thanks be to ABS.
Anyone else from CarThrottle here?
No. Is that a good thing , the car throttle?
4:00 I dislike his seat position, which is too reclined. You sometimes need to bend forward to see around the A-frame, which is difficult if the seat is not fairly upright.
Well first off I love this. But.... Honestly some people just are not skilled enough to drive, and that's scary shit
39.08 LOOK AND LEARN
Anyone notice that jackie looks like he could be either keith moon or the hamsters cousin from out in the countryside
15:05 Fangio...
I'm not Stewart's biggest fan, but he is the only great driver to retire at his peak.
Rosberg?
I assume you mean Nico Rosberg. I don't regard him as a great driver, also he was only 31 when he retired, so I would argue he was still improving.
