Amazon has freeze dried yoghurt starter or you could freeze dry your own or keep a culture going by making yoghurt regularly, starting with a store bought live culture plain yoghurt. Thank you for encouraging us to share your info with others. I, too, think others need to be as ready as they can be for disasters of every kind, and helping them before and during said disasters is the only way we are all going to get through what may happen. So many viewers here have called me naive (and worse) for writing about kindness during horrible situations that I'm beginning to think maybe it's a thing in certain places to think of a gun as the first line of defense when defense is not the first line to be thought of. How very sad to think that helping and sharing is not what first comes to mind.
I used to think of sharing. But then a few friends from church let me know they were not preparing but fully expected to eat my food if there were ever problems. It changed my beliefs and plans. Also, some non-LDS family in Utah said they expected the LDS Church to feed them in the event of an emergency. None of these people are poor. They live in million dollar homes, drive nice cars and vacation regularly. But somehow, I am supposed to prepare for them. Or someone else's church is.
@@terrymanning5132 Maybe their church WILL provide for them. We can't know what they know about or have been told by their church. I would hope that churches will be places of help and refuge if there is a disaster. That is what I, as an atheist, understand but obviously, I am wrong about some church members. If a starving and hurt millionaire came to my door I would help them, just as I'll help them now to prepare themselves beforehand. I don't look at the number of credit cards or cash in someone's wallet before I reach out a hand or share knowledge. Just about everyone has more money than I anyway...
The non-LDS ones have no church of their own to turn to. And the LDS Church has been very specific. They do not have the supplies to feed many people. I was meeting with an LDS bishop at my office during the early days of the covid crisis. He received a text message while sitting there informing him that the local LDS Home Storage Center had just closed because the food was gone. They would reopen after the next harvest.
My grandma always added a tsp. or so of baking soda towards the end of cooking beans and lentils. She said it helped keep everyone from being gassy after eating them. Seems to help.

Talk about altitude adjustments! You could pull the eggs out of boiling water with your hands. Loved it. Thanks for sharing your knowledge of food preservation.
Pam. You and Jim are a blessing to all of us. I have learned so much from you. Lol especially learned what mistakes I have made as a new canner. Like processing my chili in quarts. I will test it before using. Suction (grandma taught me to put a puddle of water on top of the lid and poke a hole. If it spits throw it away. Means gases from toxins present. Might just be myth but it is how we did it). I will also smell it. I soaked boiled and cooked the beans first. I also only filled the jar 1/2 full with beans and the rest was the chili broth. It still was thick though at the end of processing. Processed for 90 min with appropriate cool down method. Next time I will do it in pints. Thank you for everything
It’s very great information and a wonderful thing that you do. I always learn something. I’ve been making hummus for many many years but I have never put soda in the water to soften the skin! You can be sure I will do so now.
Pam, you can try and do a dip cream with white beans, garlic and blue cheese, using same condiments than hummus or other you want. It's super tasty and if you use the bigger white beans then it's even more creamy. 🥰

Yum! My father just made some too
Next time you go to Costco, they have Everything seasoning (like the everything bagel topping), that is my new favorite hummus topping !
Good morning Rose. My name is Ana Rosa, bu i go by Ana is shorter. Well I want to let you know, i have seen all your videos, and repeat them. God bless you and Jim.
I love humus but have never made it. It’ll be fun
You rock, Love your channel!
Joan: Thanks so much! Jim
Instant Hummus--how easy. Thanks
I once bought powderdd hummus for camping, but haven't been able to find it since. if I had a freeze dehydrator I would try that out.
Thank you for this recipe and your hair is beautiful. It suits you
Oh Pam, I love your curly hair! Wonderful video and one day I will get to fast beans and hummus 😌. However, right now I am pressure canning all the meat I can.
Sharon: Sounds great! Jim
I'm getting close to I keep trying to text one of your videos when you're when you're on Little Legends petwatch have learned from you how excited I am to watch your videos I'm just now getting into dehydrating and caring and what. Thank you thank you thank you for all your information that you felt as long as I know you and your husband work hard to get these videos out to us thank you again
Deborah: you are welcome. Jim
I just enjoy your videos so much! The science based facts make it so important for learning. Would you please consider teaching us to make pita bread from King Arthur flour?
I like to add roasted red bell peppers and onions and paprika cumin lemon juice and lots of olive oil. I add Goya adobo powder to give it flavor.
gladtidings: Thanks for sharing. Jim
Wow. Nice food processor.
Hummus makes a great spread on toast or use in place of mayo on sandwiches.
Now I'm hungry !!
Squeeze of fresh lemon, we process more olive oil then on the top with olives
Yum. I like to add chilli powder or flakes for a kick. Green pea hummus and beetroot hummus are delicious too 🤤
I have a 20-pound bag of chickpea flour. What would you do with it??
Rose? Anyone?
Love your videos. Your property reminds me of when I lived in Colorado. Old Snowmass, 7,200 ft! Talk about altitude adjustments!
You could pull the eggs out of boiling water with your hands.
Loved it. Thanks for sharing your knowledge of food preservation.
Love hummus
I LOVE what you do and your approach and explanation is awesome. . I am curious why you don't use the "best by" date on original packaging?
Mericel1: Thank you for the comments. Jim
It’s very great information and a wonderful thing that you do. I always learn something. I’ve been making hummus for many many years but I have never put soda in the water to soften the skin! You can be sure I will do so now.
Love your hair
Pam, you can try and do a dip cream with white beans, garlic and blue cheese, using same condiments than hummus or other you want. It's super tasty and if you use the bigger white beans then it's even more creamy. 🥰
I hate beans. But I love Hummus. And recently I found chocolate covered chick peas.
Can you explain where and how you store your canned jars? What the temperature ranges are and how you stack them. Love watching your videos.
wendeal: We store our jars in our garage, hopefully at 75-80 degrees in the summer and no lower than 40 degrees during the winter. We stack them in single layers on shelves in the original jar boxes with the padding to have some protection from shaking and breaking. Jim
