I love it when you find crotals, or any bell for that matter. I am involved in the bellfounding industry - it’s a fascinating world! The captive ball inside a crotal is known as a ‘rumbler’, and is cast into the bell, not added later. Clever folk these founders! Great finds, and such a wonderful distraction from all that’s happening elsewhere in the world. Brilliant -thanks Simon!
Cuffs is surely your Jammiest mate. He's always finding cool stuff when you're filming with him. Those fields have seen a lot of action over the centuries. Such an array of finds from different eras. Hope Cuffs took you out for a decent pint afterwards. .....and a slap up meal!
Geoffrey de Havilland was a friend of my father’s. Amy Johnson flew a Gypsy Moth named Jason, on her record breaking flight to Australia. My father said that she was a tiny little lady but very gutsy
That's an insane amount of history you found in that one patch of land! A coin from 2000+ years ago laying with WWII and more "modern" ones...To think of those people who were in that same spot who dropped them and also you finding them so much later is mind-blowing! 🤯🤯🤯
What a field! How ever did it come to hold such things across so many years? Crazy to think of it. Always love the interactions with Nelson and Daisy and the chickens. Exciting finds! Love watching!
I am glad you worked the coin. It was pretty bad and even after breaking and fixing, it looks way better now. Thanks for sharing your treat for the chicken with us....last little smile at the end there. :)
I think that watch winding key is one of the prettiest ones of seen someone pull from the dirt. Cool find Si!! Congrats on finding the Edward 3rd hammered!! Congrats also to Cuffs for unearthing those amazing coins. 130-150 😮 simply amazing 🎉
Absolutely love crotal bells, more so the sound they make. Not sure if Nelly does though lol, what a good sport you are Nelly! The watch winder is stunning too. Awesome Si thank you! 🇦🇺♥ Teresa xx
Thanks Si. Great treasures, especially for lovely, lucky Cuffs! Shame about the groat but still an amazing treasure to find! Loved the super clip of you flying a Tiger Moth. Is this another activity you'll be adding to the rest of your skills?
@ Spitfure sounds good but scary! How about a slower pace, gliding? I’ve been twice, thought I’d die twice but instead have very nearly died three times with Josh driving!! Have a nice day Si and stay safe!
I don’t know how you manage to work …. I would honestly be so addicted to all of this! Epic field! Congratulations to both of you for such lovely finds!
Awesome findings, German always have great luck , Si don't cry 😢 ❤❤❤😂😂😂😂😂😂 Lovely coin 🪙 but you tried hard , appreciate you for that . Congratulations to the winner 🏆 ❤❤ Enjoy With love from SAM Guwahati, Assam, India 🇮🇳 ♥️
Congratulations Teribourne!! How exciting!!🥳🥳💃💃 SI I’m happy for you that the King Henry the 8th coin worked out in the end. CUFF sure does fing great pieces, but you found a watch winder and to me you found the best item of the day!! I love watch winders and see them from vintage jewelry sellers. Great video!! Enjoy your week!!☺️
You were talking about the dog with the pot and then you showed your collection of tokens and those heart ones are absolutely beautiful!! It must be so exciting to hold something in your hand that is that old. I was born in Montreal Quebec and I always loved the old homes and buildings and the historical value that they hold but sadly we had to move out west in 1974 and I so missed seeing that history. My mom took her three daughters including me back to Montreal in 2012 and we were staying in a building that was well over 100 years old and she got a kick out of me going up to the brick wall as if I was hugging it and I said could you imagine what these bricks have seen since this place was built? My mom could not stop laughing, but I loved it. I absolutely love history in that way that you could see it. You could touch it.
Thanks for the vlog Sia, what a collection of finds between you, so much history, could this be some sort of trade market over the centuries or as you say luck in the muck!!😎🐓🐓🐓🐓🇬🇧🇺🇦
I've finally cured my herniated discs in my back and can now walk again!.. so I've always wanted to go metal detecting.. I love walking, love history and love the mud! Seriously looking forward to giving it a go.. when funds improve of course... but yeah, pretty excited!
Try taking a couple b12 every day and see what happens. Just my anecdotal experience with sciatica. Water soluble so shouldn’t be a problem. Ask your Dr. but he probably, maybe won’t know.
If I recall from metallurgy class, if you want to anneal something, you let it cool slowly. Quenching it makes it harder and brittle. Nice effort though 👍
Oh Cuffs has got so lucky of late! What a find that Denarius is. The Sibrator coin logo is bloody awesome by the way! Do you think you'll make a pin badge with that on? I'm saving for a Sibrator kit to take out on the field with me too. Top invention and a proper good name for it too. Nearly made me spit my tea out (from my mud lover mug of course!) when I first saw it 🤣😝
Hello Si, shame about the Henry v111 Groat , mind you you did a great job of getting it back together, when you first heated it up you could see the green flame of the copper burning. Nice finds Cuffs as well (jammy git lol) Thanks Si and all the best from Somerset 👍🏻👍🏻💯🍺✨
I was reminded of your channel when visiting my pal Willie in Skye recently. It was him who got me into dectecting (I’d always been into bottle dumps/a good ole mudlark prior to that). Now subscribed, so I can be reminded of any new vids as they come up. I live in Winchester but commute to London once or twice a week and often stroll along the Thames on the way back to waterloo. I love the trading tokens and jettons. Your description of them being like history’s business cards is spot on! I also don’t mind the odd button for that same reason. Ok they may not be coins, but I love researching the history and business behind them. Nice vid as usual! Cheers
Brilliant episode and luck well done. Speaking as someone who's worked with metals a lot of his life you done well to get that coin open as far as you did. As a watch & clockmaker I'd say you can use solder rather than silver solder for delicate repairs. The silver solder just makes it stronger. Plumbers solder is what I've always used. It has a much lower melting point than silver solder.
The field that loves to give. Good flying, Si. That dig and pit sculpture made me laugh, it's great. The crotal bells sounds so nice, but I don't think Nelly enjoyed it. Oh my 😢, how terribly frustrating.
Nelly is definitely Sydney's (one of my rescues) brother from another mother. Spitting image. Such a shame about the groat, fantastic find though. I'd be more than happy with a broken one!
31:00 I thought you might have used that Japanese technique of filling cracks with gold (or a gold coloured metal) in order to fix items but retain their character. It would really suit something like that coin! Well done to the winner of the bracelet! Lucky boogers!
that hammered looks like maybe it got caught on the leading edge of a plow blade and drug through the ground for a bit. nelly doesnt seem to mind the crotale bell. congrats sheri!!!
