It's also a direct competitor to the Yamaha TW200. Anyway... I'll KEEP WATCHING YAMMIE NOOB!, KEEP WATCHING YAMMI NOOB!!, KEEP WATCHING YAMMIE NOOB!!!, KEEP WATCHING YAMMIE NOOB!!!! 😀😁🤣

That's the weird thing with smaller bikes here in the UK . Being so in demand due to our licensing laws, they hold their value and it's actually way cheaper to buy a used 600cc+ bike than buying a used 125cc that isn't total wrecked. Honestly you can pick up a decent mid 2000's VFR with matching luggage for the price of a shagged 125cc lol

Wow! I had never considered that aspect. Certainly not a pattern you see in the US, ha. Since they're noob bikes, you can get used ones here for a steal. (Well, comparatively. _All_ used bikes, like cars, are still pretty pricey now it seems! Maybe they'll come back down to normal again soon.)

The tdub is a great bike for exploring new areas when you just want to ride slow and chill out. The low seat, super low gearing, and fat tires make it pretty certain that you can put through the gnarliest terrain and not stall out or drop the bike. If I had to pick any of my bikes to explore a new, treacherous unmarked trail I always pick the tdub. I always know I will be able to get myself out of whatever sketchy situation I get myself into.

I love my Tdub! It's such a fantastic trail bike. Don't worry about tire sizes for 2 main reasons.
1: the bike is shit to ride on roads. It can do it but it's handling is terrible. You're not going to be going full lean in corners cause it's just not built for it.
2: for you masochist who will do it anyway, the rear tire is basically a curved 4 wheeler tire. The amount of sidewall traction is actually insane. I have ridden across a slope in the pouring rain on wet leaves and haven't lost traction

i own a yzf r125 myself since im only 17 in the UK, and honestly its got enough power to get around places efficiently, its loads of fun on a b-road and with an exhaust change it even sounds great. if you are sat there thinking that 125cc bikes are completely boring, you are dead wrong my friend. a 125cc bike is the most fun me, my dad and my cousin have ever had on the roads. especially since my exhaust is so loud we get onto a back road and we absolutely rip it open, deafening the locals.

As a kid i was DYING for a dirt bike. For my 13th birthday in 2008 my parents bought a new TW200 for my dad to ride on the roads and for me to ride off road with my friends. The tw200 is such a great all rounder starter bike. Jack of all traits, master of none kinda thing. I'm turning 27 this year and still own it. I loan to any of friends who want to start riding. My tdub has almost 20k miles on it. Probs 1/3 of those are off road. Learned how to ride on the street and off road.
Another unforeseen plus of owning a tbud is you learn how to wrench since its so simply. I find it easier to wrench on my bigger bikes I own now because of my tdub experience

I bought an SG250 in 2020 to learn on/work on and I love it. I learned how to do a valve adjustment, change the oil, and adjust the chain. It gets great mileage, has plenty of power for just bopping around town, and it maxes out at about 65mph for me on a flat highway. I think it looks pretty cool and the seat is so low a kid could ride it, it's a great learner bike and the price is right. Like Yam said tho, gotta want to do your own work.

i bought a used Yamaha v star 250 for my first bike and loved it! it wasn't fast, it over heated on a long trip through the Arizona desert in the summer, and was down right dangerous on the highway in Phoenix where everyone is doing 80 - 90 mph no matter what the speed limit is. but it was comfortable and a great starter bike! I now have a Kawi er6n (a naked ninja 650 and the predecessor to the z650) but I still miss that simple, little v twin cruiser! Picked it up in 2020 with about 3500 miles on the clock for $2000

Ya know I get why they limit new riders to 125cc in other countries. About a week into riding on my new R3 I was in a smallish parking lot gassing up (probably for the first time) and I was surrounded by cars and I got all nervous because I knew people were watching me and checking out my cool looking bike so in a state of nervous frenzy I ended up chopping the throttle and popping the clutch. I actually popped my first mini wheelie and took off like a bat out of hell all out of control and missed the front end of a car by what seemed like an inch at the time. Luckily I got everything under control before I shot out into traffic and ended up a statistic. I just remember the embarrassment and I gave everybody an I’m sorry wave and got the hell out of there before the laughter and pointing at the idiot ensued. It’s a good thing I was just on a R3 and it wasn’t on a big bike, especially an older one without traction control because I’m sure I would’ve looped it and caused somebody some real damage.

  • @MrMychan02

I think my Duke 200 keeps up or exceeds all of these in usability around the city. I can get up to 75 or 80+ (fastest speedlimit here is 65 on one stretch of highway) if needed, it taught me how to ride, and gets me around the city just fine, plus its cheap for when I inevitably upgrade after the first year. I think most people who get these were looking at grom's and z125s to begin with and found something more usable. While I'd like a 390 if money was no object (in regards to something I know I will replace fairly soon) I feel like I found a happy medium. Sure I can't blast down the highway for a long trip but I'm just fine riding it for short stretches to work or to run errands. Now that I have my bearings I think I'll transfer to a rs660 sometime soon and I can either keep this or trade it in because face it...we didn't get into motorcycling to ride a beginner bike forever.

Me watching this in Europe and going: "Ugh... the only ones out of these we get are the baby sportbikes!"
I'm begging manufacturers and dealerships, bring us the actually fun ones! The Van Van, the Trail, the Navi, the PG-1... why don't we get the fun ones.
And I am saying this as a person who actually owned a 125cc sportbike when I was 18. It wasn't the engine that made me sell it, it was the riding style. I'm sure the leaned forward style works great on a liter bike on the track, or even a 600 on a normal highway. It is however just needless wrist and back pain on a bike that can barely go fast enough to make wind resistance a problem. As a track toy, it was tons of fun, as an everyday bike... hard no. If you're going to get a 125, I honestly recommend getting a scooter over the sportbikes. It'll be more practical, much more comfortable and at those speeds, about as fun to ride.

You guys have all the fun there in the US. Here in VN it's actually dumb to buy any bike above 200cc, practically speaking. Yes, we have a license system that separate bikes above and under 175cc, but that's not the reason. The reason that even if you're on a Fireblade you can still only go as fast as 70 kph (45mph) because that's the maximum speed limit for any motorcycle anywhere in the country.

Great video! I'm thinking that "small bikes" (and I don't mean scooters, they're already a "big thing", and probably not 125s either) will be the "next big thing" in motorycling, now that everybody's over the 1700cc (and larger) cruiser craze. And by "big", I just mean that maybe 20% or better of the market for street bikes in North America might be in the 150 - 400cc range. A market where some manufacturers didn't have anything more than a single choice of a 250cc beginner's bike, that grew to 300cc a few years back.
We're heading towards a variety of pure street/commuter hyper-mileage 150/200/250 bikes, dual sports like the true off-road-capable CFR250/300L/Rally and Yammy 400z, I'd love to see the Kawi range of KLR/KLX 250/300/400 models joined by a revived DR350 and maybe an XL350. I'd love to have a TW200, but I went with the budget XR150L this spring. Those bikes can't really change without drastic changes to meet modern emissions rules, hence the "stuck in time" carburetor and drum brake. The TW is an 80's classic that I believe was updated with electric start back in the 90s or such. Now I'm advertising my vStrom 650 that I rode for 5 years after selling my vStrom 1000.
Oh, I bought/tore-down/re-built/rode my first Yammy 50 years ago (well, got it on the rode 49 years ago. Was old enough to get my driver's license 48 years ago. Only had cops pull me off the Trans Canada once when I was 15) so I think its funny that I'm watching "Yammy Noob". Keep the videos coming!

Firmly believe if someone is green they need to start out on something 150 cc. I have a 200 dual sport that pulls up quite easily and great up steep elevations for someone that weighs 220. lb . Even a 200 CC for most if they have never touched a motorcycle will get them in trouble. You need to learn handling, balance, time to stop of the mechanical determinations/expectiations of the bike. You make a mistake your bones are broken or worse; hell i'd even reccomend someone to get a little 50 cc or 100 just to learn basic handling. going to a 200 - 600 cc is a good jump in terms of acceleration, weight and how the bike handles. When you hit high speeds anything over 100 km per hour let's say the bike behaves a lot differently along with how your body affects the sway and de-acceleration of the vehicle. motorcycles are a lot of fun but you need a solid base first. Other than that - enjoy the endorphine rush, stress releif and feelings of freedom and friendship among other riders.

I’ve ridden a lot of little bikes as I have been a moto coach a long long time. One of the things that makes me love the TW is it’s size compared to other small bikes. The best under 200-250 cc segment in India is a rats race of who sells the most , and tbh TVS apache is just a small part of the market which is lead by hero splendour 100 cc which they have sold like number of stars in galaxy . Our very best Indian sport bike segment in this range is the all mighty pulsar 220f and yzf R15 v3-v4 . And pulsar was too good for its own liking that the bike was unchanged for like 2 decades that it got the update now as pulsar f250 . The all mighty platina puts out minimum of 80 kmpl , TVS apache and pulsars were rivals for a very long time in every cc segment . The bullets and classic 350 offered by royal Enfield are really swarming up the (says 350cc but behaves like 150cc) category . Ktms in India offer 125,200,250,390 which do offer exceptional package though they are regarded as not so reliable and all together have a bad reputation due to rash drivers and squids .I personally own a R15 V3(dark knight ) which has the best in class 155cc supremacy of Yamaha , offering sucha top end Every other 200 cc bike would be shamed . The new rc 200 is on the shelf these days . Now i am gonna buy my second motorcycle as Honda CB 350 RS . I did this comment as there is alot of confusion for YAM about India . Ps - Just send one Kawasaki klr for me . Thanks man appreciate your content.
