Snap On Tools - Apprentice Starter Kit Toolbox Tour
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 вер 2023
- In this video I showcase the apprentice starter up kit offered by Snap On Tools. This is a 40 Inch roll cab with all tools included to get you up and running. There are many different variations from tool companies catered for entry level technicians, giving the ability to roll your tool box in and start on the job straight away.
I had never seen the Snap on version of this so I thought it would be a useful video for any new Technicians / Mechanics looking to make Snap on and Bluepoint there main tools.

Thanks for all the feedback regarding this kit 😀
What will be the price of this
What color is the box?
I sincerely hope no apprentices buy SnapOn tools starting out. There is no need to get them with the huge amount of great tools for far less money and not getting into debt. If you start off working to pay for your tools for the next few years you are doing it wrong!
I am definitely doing it wrong but I don’t only buy snap on I buy gear wrench otc Neiko sunnex I just got addicted and needed all full sets with that being said I’m gonna at a couple years to get my debt down 😅
Personally I did the snap on starter kit (company was paying), then everything else I bought cheap(Stanley), now I’m buying kincrome or snap on only. I still don’t buy snap on sockets though 😂
I think this kit offers a good balance, it's not a crazy price and for what's included I believe is decent value all round. The box is very very nice and expensive on it's own
Agreed! Nobody should start off in that kind of debt. Apprentices should go on a massive harbor freight shopping spree when they first start, and then upgrade the stuff they need to upgrade. I’ve been in it many years, and still use some of my original harbor freight stuff, because I had no need to replace it!
@@GerardBurkeBurkesGarage where can I find this setup, when I try to find it online it doesn’t show up. I can afford this and would like to get one of these apprentice starter kits.
A lot of companies buy these for starters sets to get start up mechanics interested to work for them. It's a write off for the company and provides them a chance to get a good apprentice. The great thing about Snap On, other than it's a great tool, is you can sell the tools and box and always get your money back. I've had Snap On tools for over 30 years and some of the items are worth more now than when I paid for them. Not only that but I get several people coming to buy my Snap On tools, when I sell other tool brands and no one shows up...
Especially their digital torque wrenches. They don't sell the 1/4" ones anymore and I have 2 of them and people try to make offers up to double what I paid for them all of the time. It is crazy how some of these tools are so in demand when there are also other solid brands out there. I recently picked up cornwell's digital torque wrench set (1/2", 3/8", and 1/4") and they are incredibly solid for well under snap on prices with the same warranty. I paid like 700$ for all 3 with a 200$ rebate truck credit on top.
i wish lol, in the uk were expected to buy our own starter kit, lucky for me i had an uncle with some spare tools to start me out.
Your tools must be clean and hardly used
except most of these tools in this box were blue point (made in Taiwan)...
Nice tool box. I was surprised to see Blue Point sockets and ratchets when you opened the top drawer. I guess that is Snap On's way of cutting cost to compete with the competition. Back when I started there weren't a lot of alternatives to the tool trucks. Sears Craftsman was the go to supplier here in the States for your first set of tools. I later progressed to Snap On, Mac and Matco when I had access to the tool trucks.
I bought the bluepoint master starter kit (for around $800) when I first started and it is a solid kit. I still use the sockets, extensions, and wrenches every day and have had zero issues for years. The ratchets I will say is 100% the weakest point. They just don't feel conformable to use, they get insanely slippery when they get wet with anything, the heads are huge, and teeth for the gear feel really bad. I replaced mine with the snap on sets that came with short, med, long ratches for 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 inch drives and love them.
I had to check and see if I had written this comment in the past. I started my career in the late 70s with Craftsman also. As I progressed in talent and money I started buying from the tool trucks. I am now Semi retired, meaning I only work on what I want to now.
The socket drawer won me over. After that I was thinking the tool holder material was just right.
tHanks for the video
Thanks for watching and commenting.
That is a nice box! I would still rather have a blue point box with snap-on sockets, just my opinion. Thanks for sharing!
Yes I would be the very same way to be honest
But now he can upgrade tools individually over time rather than having to drop more money into a singular box down the road.that box will last a long time whereas the tools may not
@@TheIamdevinhe could of saved lots of money by NOT buying massively marked up Chinese made blue point and bought a fair bit of decent Taiwan sockets and wrenches. As well as not having blue point cutters etc etc etc. rocked out with brands like capri, GP, tekton just to name a few good Taiwan brands with a same warranty and half the price.
One blue point wrench set …Chinese btw is 300.00 you can buy any of the above brands for half that and ALMOST two for one the blue point (two milwauke wrench sets or icons for the price of one blue point ) just an example
But either way glad to see some one getting into the trade so on that aspect 👍 🍻
Same. If it ain't snap on I'd want some capri, they make GREAT chrome sockets that blow blue point out the water back to China, their impacts are good too.
I think we all would if pockets were deep enough 🤣
Loved the video! Now I want a tour of your toolbox!!🤣
Very nice tool chest Gerard, Thank You for the tour👌👍🙏😎☘☘
Cheers Pat, a lovely set no doubt, the apprentice is making the most of it :)
yep thats a good kit, the sockets were my favourite set up, i still use imperial on the yankee stuff and our older cars.
Many race cars use imperial fasteners still too.
very nice kit best of luck to all.👍
👌👌
As a starter only snap on stuff I’ve bought was 3/8, 1/2 flex head ratchet, impact extensions, pry bar set, tech angle 3/8 torque wrench, 12 pc snap ring pliers. Even with my student discount I spent around $2000 😢
Those foam trays look great but use up a lot of room
I restarted a bit after loosing loads of snap on stuff and brought Facom....price ok and warranty very easy in Europe..😊
I’m putting this on my Christmas list, if I get lucky maybe I’ll get that ratcheting screwdriver
🤣🤣
Dude I actually bought the orange stubby ratcheting screwdriver just as a fidget toy. Awesome tool for pcs
Nice little set up, where I from the imperial stuff is pretty much redundant, I’d like to see a breaker bar in there and a multimeter.
Spanners??? Oh you good ol blokes!😂 great vid!
😂😂
Oh that’s it it’s a slippery slope into obsession
Is there a set that comes with 20 of the 10mm sockets?
Good for home mechanics
Interesting video❤
Thanks ❤️❤️
Sweet starter set. Would make a great present from Mom & Dad or Grandparents.
Lucky kid to get a gift like that! very nice starter kit.
Nah man that's crazy 😂
If a company offered me that set for free then great, but I wouldn't pay £2750 for it if I was an apprentice. I would go straight to Halfords, and buy some Halfords Advanced tools, for the price with a lifetime warranty they are the best value for money option you can get as an apprentice, also Sealey in my opinion. Then as you start earning some money slowly buy what you need and take home the Halfords stuff for side jobs or your own vehicles. They are still tools for life, because of the lifetime warranty at the end of the day.
Also it's a pain in the bum if you go independent and need to warranty something on the truck.
Yes I completely understand both sides of the coin on this one.
I use Halfords advance and love em
Tried warranting a Halfords 3/8ths ratchet was told they don’t use that style anymore and pretty much told me to fuck off there sockets are good that’s about it
If I would be honest that was a lot of buck for the bang... I think I would go for an empty cart and then add tools depending on need. In my experience "less is sometimes more", there is not always need for every possible size in both metric and imperial. A good base and then add-ons can be just as good...
$3400 isn't bad at all and those full drawer foam things are crazy, I've never seen that before from Snap-On
i have the blue point bit set and a bunch of snap on tools
i got the same one but it doesn’t include air impact or any of the imperial stuff, it does include a lot more hex, torx e torx and other bits like that instead
Nice kit!
i hope these apprentice kits are purchased for the apprentice and aren't taken from their wages as that looks like a very expensive set-up even if the majority of tools are Blue-Point branded rather than Snap-On. i do think that you could get a much more rounded and complete set-up if you shopped away from Snap-On especially for an apprentice and still have the benefits of things like a life time warranty. The main thing i learnt when a technician was that you don't need to buy expensive tools, especially for the items you use less often or beat up on/abuse, i love my snap-on ratchets but pair them with sockets from the likes of Milwaukee, Sealey, Bahco, Draper, only buying Snap-On sockets if i was in a pinch and the van was right there
wonder what the same in all snap on would cost , I prefer the 12 drawer version of that box , but its a good start point , however if you were to swap it out for all snap on , its an expensive starting point when halfords own brand would do the same job at a quarter of the price , again if its getting swapped out later , no odds.
I would over time swap the imperial chromes for metric impacts.
nice set
Now that is nice
🤩
Ist amazing ❤
Number does not turn up on snap on site. Where do I find this set?
Where do I go to get this kit? Snap On does not show this setup for that price?
how much is the start up kit I'm wonder because i might be doing a heavy duty industrial mechanic apprentiship
I've had my snap on tool chest since 1979
Very nice! Would you happen to have a model number for this? I cant find it on the snap-on site.
KRA2106 is the box number, the promo sheet was on the tool truck.
Search the model number and start up kit or starter kit and see if there is anything running in your location.
I am based in Australia and I have found the promo was running in New Zealand as well.
I hope this helps 👍👌
I have since been told it's Part Number # STRPA2106SGA
I hope this helps ya.
DO you have any teal handle items for sale?
Is this kind of kit asvailable in the USA? I can't seem to find this kit or anything similar that includes the box on the Snap-On USA website
I have been told it's Part Number # STRPA2106SGA
I hope this helps ya, try the tool truck and ask if that part number cross references
I've had a hacksaw in my work tool box for over 25 years and have never used it. But as soon as I remove it you know what will happen.
How many 10mm sockets are included?
There are some fantastic start up tool box and kits lately. Don't buy someone's beat up shit on Facebook marketplace shop around. This week someone was selling all their stuff in a Milwaukee box wanting 5k!?? Why Entertain the thought when Snap-on, husky, Cornwell, gear wrench and dozens more offer full kits for $1500-$4500 drop ready to go. Beautiful start up set and box 👌🤌
That's a nice box. But man, it's a lot of Bluepoint for the $$$.
For the low price of $30,000 you can own this starter kit as well!
Just curious, do you know what the start kit number is? I’m interested in snagging something like this for at home purpose now that all my tools are at work. Especially if it is that cheap
I have been told it's Part Number # STRPA2106SGA
I hope this helps ya.
@@GerardBurkeBurkesGaragethank you!
And it’s a steal of a deal at a cool 30 grand! Yeah
I think for $3500 usd you could get a lot more bang for your buck if you shop for your beginning tools at the box stores and on Amazon.
Honestly go for the gear wrench modular sets they have can’t beat the quality for the price
Where would I find this kit and it’s there a parts number or something for the kit?
The Snap On promo/truck is - Part Number # STRPA2106SGA
The Tool box model number is - Part Number # KRA2106
A very comprehensive starter set from Snap on,my concern is the cost though, surely if it's for apprentices they are not going to be on top wages,so the cost would be astronomical, why put yourself in debt at around 18 yrs of age?far better to get Halfords pro tools/U.S.A tools and Draper.start with a Halfords roll cab and add to it,for a quarter of the price.
Thats a good kit for anyone even if you just got a garage and need new tools
Will you tell me why is the cheaper brand blue Point inside of the starter kit
Beacuse you wouldn't fill the first drawer if it was just Snap On, the prices are very expensive and an apprentice wouldn't typically be able to afford such a kit
So did he pick all of these bits individually or are they sold in this sort of configuration with a Snap-on chest and blue Point tools
@@repairs524 It was all in a starter package, he didn't pick anything out individually.
Un the usa apprentice mechanics make around 12$ per hour so man thats alot of money just to get started lol
As long as he likes it, saw a lube tech of 2 months buy 25k worth of snap on and a box. Now hes 5 months in and absolutely hates being a mechanic.
100%
Do you have the part number for this set it would make a grate roll around cart
The Snap On promo/truck is - Part Number # STRPA2106SGA
The Tool box model number is - Part Number # KRA2106
Not gonna lie when I heard 300 pieces I’m thinking a very empty kit as most companies count Allen keys as individual pieces and bits as individual pieces gear wrench and craftsman little bits kit has more than 300 pieces so maybe you just said it wrong as the sockets alone look like 300 pieces
nothing like working for snapon your first 5 yrs plus of your job
I am a diesel mechanic and I have to restart my tool collection. My snap on guy said he has never seen this set. Is there a number for it?
The Snap On promo/truck is - Part Number # STRPA2106SGA
The Tool box model number is - Part Number # KRA2106
All can be yours, for the low price of $49,001.00 Really Cool Setup though!
For the fraction of that, you could get Sonic toolbox
🤣🤣🤣
Looks like they don't sell this (or even anything similar) in the US
The Snap On promo/truck is - Part Number # STRPA2106SGA - Australia / New Zealand
The Tool box model number is - Part Number # KRA2106
Didn’t know snap on/blueprint did foam sets like this.
I'm seeing more and more foam from them. This one actually seems a fairly efficient use of space. I'm still more of a rail guy, I like the olsa tools or mechanics time saver (p/n 257982).
Problem with foam is adding on. It might be different if I was in aviation instead of Automotive.
Sorry actually P/N MTSLASTRAY
its so weird to me to see a snap on tool box, with blue point tools. not that its a bad thing, i’m guessing its a European thing, here in the states, if you were to buy a set like this it would be snap on tools in the box. if you go to college there for auto mechanics, does snap on offer the tool discount program for them there?
Kinda disappointed that it contains mainly blue point and not the OG Snapon..
The thickest heaviest Chinese wrenches I ever seen 😮
I noticed the Williams USA and Taiwan Blue-Point 1/4 drive sockets don’t hold or work very good compared the Snap-on.
The Blue-Point tools are about the same as the harbor freight tools, but today Blue-Point combination wrenches are almost too thick and heavy for automotive use. Harbor Freight Icon are better wrenches.
Blue-Point combination wrenches country of origin CHN.
I have that same bluepoint wrench set and they are thinner that my snap on set and my mac set by quite a large margin. I bought the master starter bluepoint starter set that came with all the sockets, wrenches, and extensions and more (around 800$) when I first started years ago and I use them daily in my in shop box and I have yet to brake a single one. Where my snap on deep 3/8" drive sockets and 1/4" set I have to replace a cracked socket damn near weekly... I bought a set of icon wrenches for my service truck and I honestly chucked them in the trash after less than a month bending a few of them, the open end bending open, and the boxed ends rounding out on a few. I just haven't had good luck with them. My impact sockets are Pittsburg though from 10mm to 40mm and I have had them for 8 years now and haven't had a single issue but my coworker busted half a set in a few months. I guess my point is, every brand has their good and bad stuff but it depends on what batch you get and if they were made on a monday or a friday to determine if you get a set that lasts years or weeks.
@@MrGuyBroDude The latest Blue-Point combo wrenches sold in sae and metric wrench sets in plastic trays today are not the same. Straight up Chinese piece of steel cut out and chromed over. Terrible, biggest thickest and heaviest wrenches I ever seen.
@@jacksautorepair Ah I got ya. Didn't think they would change so drastically like that considering how well the "old" ones work.
@@jacksautorepair21-32mm blue point spanner’s are quite bulky but there fucken solid especially compared to my teng set i upgraded from for a 30 pound difference
Do you Have a Part Number For This Kit
I have been told it's Part Number # STRPA2106SGA
I hope this helps ya.
All chrome sockets ,ZERO impact sockets ,that you actually need !! Hope the youngster learns & buys his impact sockets from on line ,say sunex , grey pneumatic . pays a 1/4 of the tool truck price & still gets a lifetime warranty ..
Did you watch the video?
@@Globerson yep , Tell me the last time you used a 12 / 6 point chrome half inch drive socket , in todays real world ? my point is this everyone use,s impacts !! 3/8 , 1/2 & even 1/4 inch drive . time is money ! The three impact sockets & 3 inch ext that this set contains is virtually useless. Snap on screwed this poor kid out of the gate ,every tool co does it , mac , matco , cornwell , gearwrench . It,s time they quit screwing over the new guys & give them a starter set that contains the tools they really need ....
@@user-zj9qg7et4m I used a chrome 6 point 21mm on F150 bumper bolts today. I was doing it solo with a bumper stand and wanted to snug the bumper up by hand in the right position before I torqued it down.
You know, like a professional mechanic would.
i remember i spent 45k on snap-on during my apprenticeship
that's the classic thinking ahead on snap on's part, lets pack it full of cheap blue point tools so that they will, "trade in the blue point for snap on tools" in the future and we can shaft them for even more money 👍 well done snap on, Corporate Capitalism at its finest.
Unless you specialise in vintage cars, the imperial stuff is a waste lf space surely?
I've been a mechanic for 10 years and the only imperial tool i own is a 1" (i think) socket from Halfords for the nuts used to fil oil coolers to cars. And thats my personal track car.
Seems a bit crap to give an apprentice a load of pointless sockets. I'm sure there more useful things they can put in the kit.
How much does this apprentice setup cost
Prices/availability will vary Country to Country, I give the paid price amount spent $AUD plus I converted the currency amounts in the video.

Thanks I totally missed it the first time my fault
That’s a house mortgage 😂😂
It looks like it could be, but in all fairness to them I think this is decent value
The person I apprenticed under told me it's better to have 500 dollar box with 5000 dollars in tools. Also buy the cheap stuff and as it breaks buy the better stuff.
Dude if that’s actually 3400usd for all of those tools and the cart it’s really not that bad..
Part #?

I wouldn’t even want to use those. Especially on rusty ass cars… which are 90% of cars I work on. And if I’m pissed off I need to be able to throw my wrench across the shop
Genius move from snapon. Get em chained to the truck young and before they even finish paying it off they’ll be thanking you for their next larger box.
Not a bad set but too much of what you'll rarely need and priced too high. I got mostly snap on myself but that's only because I started in the 80s. No internet no credit it's what you did then. But now you can literally find the best deals while relaxing on the couch and have Amazon deliver it. I got 2 rollers and 2 top boxes and I'd still be paying for them if they were snap on. All those weird special sockets they keep coming out with I get on Amazon screw snap on plenty of well known name brand companies selling for a lot less. All my electric tools are Milwaukee can't beat the price and quality. A former coworker of mine has a snap on tool box he paid 15k for. My tool box I paid 2300 for is literally the same exact box with a slightly different drawer configuration. Same dimensions and weight it's insane didn't get sucked in.
If the company pays for it then sure why not, but if the new hire has to pay for it then screw that.
Thats not a start up kit, that a decent used car.
First of all you don't let an apprentice go broke buying snap on ....
1-2 years easy pay off
Icon as well as others offer the same tools at 1/4 price. With the same warranty. Snap-On in 2023 doesn’t make sense. Don’t get me wrong they make nice tools but the low-mid class tools nowadays are the same quality.
Nice tools but very $$$ If you start out please don’t buy this
Just get some snap on pliers, a 3/8 ratchet, the ratchet screwdriver, then maybe craftsman sockets and dewalt combo sets. IMO
If the company gives this to you then take it! If you have to buy this stuff yourself then stay away from the tool trucks. Get set up with harbor freight then move up as needed. Dont let these old guys tell you that you need to look professional with over priced stuff. I always laugh when kids say they cant afford college so they went into this trade and spend 100k in tools and boxes and hate the job lol. Make sure this trade is for you! Its not easy and dealerships are mostly terrible! Right now our porters make more an hour then our lube techs.... makes sense.. ssa backwards
Total truth here. The tool trucks enslave workers with rediculous prices and debt. Harbor Freight is the way to go. Their US General tool box line is outstanding and will cost a fraction of tool truck prices, and are outstanding quality.
@@theirishman088 Yup, it's a shame guys get brainwashed into taking on a bunch of debt to enrich the greedy executives at Snap-on. I have an older 4-drawer US General Series 1 cart that was a little over 100 bucks back then (220 now) and it has been outstanding. I did call the HF parts dept and bought a couple replacement drawer slides just in case, but have never needed them. I have always fancied the 5-drawer bigger cart, so I ordered it a few days ago in the store at the current sale price $190 plus tax, regular $270. It's a killer value. The comparable 4 drawer cart to my old $220 cart at Snap-on is a Blue-pont 4 drawer and it is priced at $1,075, rated at 540 lbs capacity. The US Gen 4-drawer is rated at 580 lbs., 5 drawer rated at 700 lbs.
Not something i would ever recommend anyone starting to get just way to much for a starting tech
Anyone that says don’t buy snap on tools when starting is wrong, snap on tools are an investment and investing in yourself is the smartest thing you can do for your career
Apprentice starter going in massive debt tour.
You've really screwed over your new apprentice alllowing him to buy that kit. He could have bought a nice second hand cab and everything he needed for a fraction of the money he's spent there.
Dam. Id he had bought all of that, it’s gonna easily cost him 5k. Never buy out from snapon as an apprentice. Only because your job might not be secure
Am I stupid? $3,400USD is going to cover the sockets… maybe. I’d go as far as saying not even all the sockets. This price has to be wayyyy off. This looks like $15,000 minimum to me
The price is correct, I too think there is good value in this kit. Looking through the comments some people think it's a rip off, but for me the box alone is a great piece that will last forever if minded
If you took this amount and bought Tekton you would have a much better set
The fact that the top drawer has only chrome sockets is the dumbest thing ever you should be using power tools, an impact sockets 99% of the time
For 10 small payments of $999 and your soul, first born, left kidney and 10% off all your future earnings!
That's a lot of shit that will never be used in that box.
10k before tax lol.
DO NOT BUY THE ONE WITH A TOP LID THEY BREAK OFF !!! 6000K WELL SPENT
