Nanoleaf Essential Light Strip Review

- The Nanoleaf Essential Light Strip is probably the most interesting light strip to come out recently. It’s not because it does anything particularly special, but rather because like the Nanoleaf Essential light bulb, it is priced well below the competition, and more importantly, because it runs on Thread.
Honestly the only downside right now to the Nanoleaf essential light strip is that it is Thread based, because unless you have a HomePod Mini you’re not going to be terribly thrilled by the response times.
But if that doesn’t bother you, or you already have a HomePod mini or plan to get one in the near future, then the Nanoleaf Essential Light strip is the new HomeKit Light Strip to beat.

Very suprising that, nanoleaf, of all companies, would make such a great strip for the price.
Thumbs up for the first video I could find that showed me the power strip in detail so I can see what outlet prongs it has
I've had a great experience with the Nanoleaf Essential Light Strip! They're super vibrant and add such a fun, customizable glow to any room. The setup was a breeze and I love playing around with all the colors and effects.
Good stuff. Gotta love Thread & the RGB WW CC architecture.
Absolutely! Big fan of this light strip
Finally you got to this strip! Loving mine so far! Great price and lightning fast with thread on my HP Mini.
I also enjoy the scenes the Nanoleaf app offer - similar to the panels scenes.
Awesome!
Hi,
Could you please tell me whether it is easy to bend and create corners using this strip, for example, to place it on the back of tv?
My wife and I bought the nanoleaf lightstrips and an extension!
Awesome review- thanks!
They do NOT diffuse well using a channel and channel cover visible to the eye…..I’ve tried using Milky White Channel Covers
Do these require an internet connection to use? I want to install these on the bed in my ship but there is no internet connection inside.
No but you will need a local network to control them
@@TechTechMoreTech sorry can you explain a bit more what you mean by that? Can my iPhone serve as a local network?
Now that I think more about it. Perhaps you can just get away with using it via Bluetooth. I think that’ll work, and you won’t need anything else. I know the hue lights have Bluetooth for that usecase, but I haven’t verified that these will work the same way
@@TechTechMoreTech ok thank you, I suppose I’ll just have to buy them and test it out. Thanks! 🙏🏼
Thanks man, so underrated.. 👍🏻👍🏻
Nice video. I have Meross Light Strip and they are HK ready, and half the price. Other than not being Thread technology ready, any other comments?
Thanks! I don’t have any direct experience with Meross but based on their product page they are only single RGB LED on the strip (no white colors) vs the RGB CC WW on the Nanoleaf. They don’t mention CRI anywhere so I assume it’s not very high (CRI measures color accuracy).
Perfectly fine for the price, but not quite the equivalent of Nanoleaf or Hue/Lifx/Eve.
Hope that helps!
Will this work with Google assistant?
Question regarding thread ... in the Nanoleaf App do you see your Homepod mini in the "Thread Network"? I have 9 Nanoleaf bulbs and they all show up in the app in the thread network but I don't see any of my 5 Homepod minis? Do yours show up in the Nanolead app?
can I set the nano strip to gradient/multicolor effect?
Unfortunately not
Which V-channel works best with Nanoleaf's 15mm (1.5cm) wide strip? Other LED's are 10mm (1cm) wide and so are all of the V-channels I can find...
So it doesn't have any compatibility with Alexa or just not thread based?
No Alexa compatibility at the moment
So if I have an area to cover of about 114ft in the ceiling, it sounds like I should not use this strip since I'd need so many strips
How is this powered ? I want to use under bed on wall and ceiling do I need to buy multiple sets or one set and snip it
I have the light bulbs and looking to possibly get a strip or two but I'm still a bit confused on the thread and haven't had much luck with support on better clarification. Once I get a thread device can I use these to voice command on both Amazon Alexa and Google home at the same time? Asking because people in my house downstairs use Alexa and I use Google home upstairs.
the most important thing, really! in standby the 2meter Nanoleaf Essentials Lightstrip require only 0.3W. With light on it take between 4,7 and 7W only. The extension 1meter add just 2W!!
My Vocolinc 5mt "On" is about 15/2W and 4,7W in stanby! about the same for Merros.
So, the "real" smart house must also be efficient in terms of energy consumption! the Thread is the best way to save energy!
Do u know how I can reset them.?? My long strip
when he says home pod mini, does that include google nest?
Also, are the lights also W? in as true white?
Does it connect to regular HomePod or JUST HomePod mini?
Do these led strips need to be plugged in or need batteries?
they have a dc adaptor for the wall
AppleTV has thread. Will that work? If not, does a HomePod Mini have to be nearby? Thanks.
Yes, new Apple TV will work!
In your future videos can you shoot with out showing your busy hands? thanks!
does this strip connect to twitch like other nano products??
How much do i need for my Samsung the Frame 43”?
The perimeter of the tv is roughly 124” (including the bottom), the standard Lightstrip is 80” long so you will need one the 40” extensions as well
I thought this could sync with my current nanoleaf panels but it seems no. Thats a shame . Then i see no point of buying that . It dont even have different scene / screen mirroring effect .
I’m thinking about getting it but I have one question is it like a really long
It’s 80” long, and can be cut every 13”to be shorter or extended with the 40” extension kit
I got them for christmas presents.
have you tried this with the open thread border router?
I have not. Could you provide a link to that so I can check it out?
is it possible to sync it with razer synapse?
Awesome lights,
Wait, it won’t connect to an Apple TV?
can you connect 2 strips to eachother
They sell 40” extension kits so you can make it longer if you like
@@TechTechMoreTech link?
Is there a way to sync them with the tv / pc monitor content?
Not to my knowledge for TV.
@@TechTechMoreTech thanks for the info. Also, are there any preset scenes in the app? (Like movie, music etc.)
Apple only (yes apple only, we're not counting that bluetooth performance) so now i see why i can get one for so cheap at 35 bucks, i'm just looking for something to go with my razer set up, i dont want to introduct iTrash into my household, thanks for the info, saved me some money 👍🏻
Hey! What about the remote controller that comes in the starter pack?
It’s not a remote. It’s plugged in and connected to the light strip. Unless it’s with arms reach it will be useless to you
Last time I had the nano leaf app it gave my tablet aids, does anyone know is it functional now?
This device sucks. It can only show 1 color at the same time. There are no animations, no chaser light, no blinking, nothing. Only 1 color. Super lame, since the Nanoleaf Aurora is perfectly capable of animations.
Does it work with original HomePod?
Yes it will. However it will connect via Bluetooth, and the performance will be a bit slower
