Damn Chris Pennie is so good, I remember being totally blown away as a young drummer when I first heard him
He is an absolute virtuoso.. never liked the dillinger drummers that came after him quite as much. he was the perfect fit for the band, same with dimitri. his single and double strokes were flawless
@@underscoreisnotvalid flawless paradiddles and blasting, too.
I was a huge fan of the DEP (saw them 5x in 1yr), but once Chris left they're music was never the same...
@@raumyurena5693 yep, Chris was the "calculating" to Ben's "infinity"
Agreed! I remember for a while he was playing with only one Tom (floor) and that just blew my mind so hard
Goddamn. Brian Benoit, Chris Pennie, Dimitri Minikakis... what a fucking time capsule.
Ppl forget how sick Benoit was

Good work
This was truly beautiful. Thanks to the uploader. I shed an oldfart tear
kudos to the guy who did the Mullet Burden scream
Dimitri's vocals are so visceral, I wonder what would have become of DEP if he stayed, Greg kicks ass though.
I actually like Dimitri's vocals better than Greg's.
@@rungavagairun I always liked Dimitri but Greg could do a lot more vocally bringing TDEP to new heights.
Man your whole channel is full of amazing live sets. So many good bands throughout the whole channel. Thanks so much for all of these! I can’t wait to check out the rest!
I'll never get over how the Mullen Burden changed music
The guitar part on that song definitely has to be a one of the best Dillinger guitar parts ever
@@jaggercanney7821i just got a notification of this . Weird .
@@michaelvieregge2257 *mullet
hahah 2 year old typo
The Nick Mullen burden
amazing footage, thanks for sharing! kinda surprised how calm the crowd is, kinda expected madness from the east coast scene in this era.
I think they dont know what happened😆
Fucking hell. Starting with Jim Fear.
And they didn't even count themselves in!
Cleopatra's Sling is underrated, such insane drumming
First time I saw these guys in Syracuse NY (around this time, maybe a late 90s Hellfest?) they had a guy on stage feverishly drawing while they played.
All of it was very new. This kind of technical hardcore/Metal wasn't a thing. Deadguy was older and a few others like Creation is Crucifixion had maybe started but not like this. It was great.
this is like the best thing i have seen in my life
Good video and audio quality!
Don't forget folks, the coolest moment in music is RIGHT FUCKING NOW. Go get involved.
blah blah blah
Nothing today can touch this.
@@jumpfart666I guarantee there's some band of dudes making music as good as this, but they're unknown playing in some tiny venue
Jim Fear was a napster mp3 download for me some 20 years ago and i could not believe my ears (along with Gorguts, Atheist, Human Remains, Cephalic Carnage)
Long Live Circus Riffs
Shit. I think I found them the same way.
Is that that same gorguts that became gorod?
I remember the hottest shit back then was Dillinger calculating Infinity, psycroptic sceptre of the ancients, gorod leading visions and pig destroyer.
Gorguts 👍
@@reyntime1950 nah Gorguts was always Gorguts. They were traditional death metal on their 1st 2 albums, and quite good at that, but on their 3rd album "Obscura" they completely lost their minds. Must hear if you haven't. Nothing quite like it.
@@reyntime1950You're thinking of Gorgasm who changed their name to avoid confusion with the US band.
The one & only Gorguts from Canada.
Love a new DEP upload!
Dimitri <
This was the apex of DEP in my opinion. So fucking great.
7:10 jeff wood really thought they'd catch him didn't he
Haha yes, It was a small load of a crowd and either they were to week to not catch him or he was to big😂😂
From 94-00 shit was so fun
Holy shit what a special time
Fucking Hell, Dimitri looks massive. How fucking tall is the dude?
I'm 6'2", and he looks taller than me.
He's not. Dimitri is like 5'9"-5'10". Liam is like 6' even. It's not even that they're tall, it's Ben is small lol
Chris Pennie and Dimitri Minakakis? Best line up for sure
Also Jeff "I got shot in the head and became even awesomer" Wood on bass.
Yeah this lineup and the Miss Machine lineup are the best. I didn't mind Greg coming in, but after Chris Pennie left, they were never as good.
For a second I thought it was Wes Borland from Limp Bizkit on vocals 😂
18:05, The most Intense part of the whole show, LMFAO
Ahh how great! 1999!!!
12:30 love this moment
Sick
Destro's Secret is awesome.
Damn straight.
Dude still does the same guitar moves with Suicidal Tendencies today!
Imagine if they played with pig destroyer 😭
Awesome shit. I love how awful guitars sounded in the late 90s until about 2004 when the Orange Rockerverb came out. Sure they had the triple rec and the 5150 but Orange changed everything.
You couldn’t be more wrong lmao
Lucky I saw them with Dimi in Europe late 90's. Calculating just came out then. Sickest live energy you'll ever get to witness + they had a flamethrower on stage with them on one song lmao 🤣 brilliant!
Latest news they'll be back with Dimi playing live 25th anniversary Calculating Infinity shows on West Coast this summer. Greg's touring UK solo this month with backing band weird enough. Exciting times holy fuck!!
Everyone is giving props to Chris, Dimitri, and Brian (rightfully so mind you), but Jeff Wood is a fuckin beast!
The first time i saw them was when they open for........(Pennie's drum roll).......Candiria and Meshuggah at Coney Island High in the east village which it think it was like $10 or $15 to get in hahaha!
Great band - and remember to never drink and drive, guys!
It's weird to think that mostly everyone in this crowd are over 40
Need to bust out my old Faceless footage when they played the smallest venue around where I'm at, before anyone listened to them.
and then send it to me lol
I actually did find it, it has some pretty deep scratches on the disc, I'm going to see if I can get it to work. Also found a BTBAM live set from the Alaska years.@@mirandalarrieu8337
lame
"That's my own theory..."
Dimitri has the most ferocious voice in metal. I don’t care if you disagree with me! If you agree then you sing metal music like me and understand lol
Jim Fear really fucking scared me when i first heard it. He seemed honest about his rage. And that's what i loved about him. Greg souded too controlled
I can totally relate to their old singer, now.
what do you mean
@@casperado666 um... he was awesome?
wish i could've seen them with dimitri before
My high school teachers daughter is married or "dating" (can't recall which,) to the guitarist lol no lie she would wear a dillinger shirt to school.
Damnit, Dillenger is Pig Destroyer if they had nice lives and money, and everyone liked them and said they were doing a talent show.
Lol that snare sound
same
Man, Chris Pennie, absolutely one of the best drummers to ever exist yet nobody knows his name. Sad.
@@lukerogers151 I went to Coachella 2010 when I was 19...mostly for Faith No More, but I really wanted to see DEP, and they were my first metal show. Patton was there for FNM, and Pennie for Coheed...I thought there might be some crazy crossover lol. I wish Chris's playing was more exciting in Coheed, they are boring to me. Glad he's back doing stuff with Greg.
@@lukerogers151 dont feel too bad . A bunch of us drummers still know and love him more than our own children and parents
Watching at 2x speed.
♾
Is this TWSC band?
what's wrong with the crowd?
The thing happens @3:27
Is that Adam Doll on bass?
Jeff Wood of THE SHAT. Adam was already wheelchair bound by this point. His accident happened just before they were gonna record Calculating. Brian was still in Converge at that point, this was likely one of his first shows with them.
Now this is the Dillinger Escape Plan I enjoyed , after Dimitri left, didn’t like the change
hear hear. Greg's vocals were too controlled. Dillinger's first record was pure rage, pure chaos, beautiful explosion of negativity. With Greg it was not the same smh. I mean it was still great, but it was a different band
@@casperado666 yeah I like the rage and chaos. With Greg it was a different band, they should of changed the name
Amen.
everyone seemed to be pivoting towards more melody at that time. when miss machine came out, i was so excited for it because i knew DEP wasn’t gonna follow that pattern. and then they did.
i understand now that bands have to grow, they can’t make the same record over and over again, but at the time? i was pissed. it’s still not my cup of tea, calculating infinity will forever be a massive achievement in aggressive music. converge, cave in, coalesce, botch and DEP. every single one of them have made records that are untouchable.
@@heysahan well said, man. What are coalesce and cave in albums you would recommend?
That snare drum could kill a man lol
Hello, future me. Let me help you out. 18:58
The ONLY DEP era that I associate with!!!!!!!
God DAMN!!!!
Life is precious, edit your shit bro
I'm surprised everyone in this audience still has hair..... looks like a full wig blow off to me.
Here's the real DEP, not the current Rock n roll radio shit!
R u reffering to the Greg era of DEP?
yes, exactly @@klar7566
I thought this was maroon 5
oh yeah, back when they were cool and didn't have pianos and a jock singer and no roadies.
“A jock singer”? What do you suppose Dimitri was, then? Aquaman?
