    bought this pack in February and it continues to yield so much in terms of readymade sound tools and patch-building tutorials
    upside of patches as well-organized as these: easy to update! I managed to add pitch bend to all of the keyboard-playable patches in a matter of minutes.
    Thank you for taking the time to put this all together!!!

      Thank you so much!! Yeah I figured if I were to sell ZOIA patches I wanted them to be tidy, easy to study and update, and follow the same organising methods for all the patches as best as I could. I’m soo happy to hear they’re having a long life and continue to be of use! 🙏🏼

    For anyone who wants a summary of the patches:
    Cuckoo Patch notes:
    Page 1 will always act as a UI page. Other pages are labeled. The bottom right corner has volume adjustment on most patches. Modules put in lower left refer to left stomp switch. Q titled patches are experimental.
    1. Synths that Need MIDI (MIDI channel 1)
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    a. SineSic Synth
    >> Basic smooth sounding synth. ADSR is for the modulation. 3 note polyphony. Patch has reverb and tremolo.
    b. Bacid Synth
    i. Fat bassy, acid style synth. Has retrigger button, attack, and decay of modulation. XOR noise to bring in some noise. There is a drive. Can adjust the LFO rate of the tremolo on the bottom left.
    c. Eff Def Synth
    i. FM synth. AD of (mostly) the modulation and Sustain and Release. Has FM offset - “root key” Generating CV value in steps via chromatic tempered scale. Can adjust the pulse width number. FM level can also be adjusted. MIDI mod wheel can recognize mod wheel CC. Stomp switch is portamento. Reverb send.
    d. Stereo PolySqua
    i. Stereo square wave synth. Sounds video-gamey. 8 voices. ADSR. Detune - play more than one note will have a different tuning deviation based on this. Reverb mix, decay and has a midi mod wheel that will affect the pulse width modulation. More mod wheel = more different pulse width modulations with more notes (MOAR STEREO)
    e. Bit Synth
    i. Wacky synth. Each press is varied. Mod wheel impacts aliaser and decides how much aliasing happens on a sound. Sample and hold function that samples a random value and sends it to the aliaser.
    f. Q Drumkit
    i. Left stomp switch has a kick drum. Middle = snare, right = hat. Can also play from the keyboard (CBE notes). Sound adjustments on the front page
    g. Q Femme
    i. Keyboard press retunes sequence.
    h. Sample Keymate
    i. Sample audio on the fly and play it. Left stomp switch = record, press again to stop. Keyboard plays it. ADSR, then settings for sample “in-point”. 4 options you can quickly switch to. Use to set where the sample starts. The next set is vibrato presets. Then reverb presets. Then EQ. 5 polyphony, can transpose the root key. Can also monitor with top-right button. Pushbutton is reverb.
    i. FM Dark Star
    i. Experimental 4 operator FM synth. Operators arranged vertically. Six algorithms to choose from. Operators change roles based on this.
    2. MIDIoptional
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    a. Mr Beat
    i. Sampler groovebox. 3 tracks being sequenced. The first page you sample with left-most button (red). Press> sound> release button to sample. Far-right is a mute switch. Each has an in-point you can change and playback pitch. Can also edit the endpoint. The reverse button is right before mute. Delay spiral, slo-mo with reverb, reverse everything effects. Re-pitch on everything as well as mic gain button. You can go into the sequencer and sequence your samples.
    b. Vox Dragon
    i. Vocal effects patch. Turn your voice into a synth. Release time, reverb decay time. Mod wheel messes with reverb.
    c. Piano Pal
    i. Turn your samples pianos into something sounding more glued together. Controls to fine-tune the sound, reverb gain, ADSR, and EQ.
    d. Tape Stop
    i. Stops the tape and plays it again
    e. Q Back Delay
    i. Ping pong delay. Not as UI friendly. Uses two loopers that are alternated.
    f. Q Granny Lay
    i. Pre granular module delay - like the above.
    g. Punch Bag Fx
    i. Punch in effects to your audio! Includes Octave down, aliasing, reverb thing, filter, resonance thing, micro delay, stutter, noise, spiral, beat thing.
    h. Imposbl crisp
    i. Make a sound crispy. Reverb and frequency preset.
    i. Radio Factory
    i. Emulate FM radio tuning. Left stomp switch “tunes” press again to stop. EQ bass presets, tuning speed preset, Ring modulation preset, and noise vs dry mix preset.
    j. Radio 2X Factory
    i. Plug in two audio sources! Tuning tunes between the two sources and stops what it is on when you press it.
    k. MultiBeeQ
    i. Multiband compression. Band 1, 2, 3, 4 controls including frequencies at each band react from and affecting. High and low shelves set. Changing where you are measuring them. Bands 2 and 3 will change the frequency of where the dynamics are measured and where it is being applied. Can adjust dynamics amounts. Can cause ducking.
    l. Micro Dylan
    i. Self-playing string instrument. Experimental.
    m. Chordable
    i. Playing sequenced notes. Page 1 has notes you can change. Reverb send in there.
    n. Seq Song
    i. Sequenced song you can mess with.
    o. Dig Shaper
    i. Pre-gain, dry mix, drive, input midi controls. Delay controls (tap tempo) feedback controls. If you have midi notes with your audio, frequencies follow the MIDI. More dynamism. Influences feedback.
    p. Drive Professor
    i. Have some overdrive! Dry mix, drive gain, how much drive, reverb controls. Reverb can freeze.
    q. Moco Voca
    i. You are gonna want to gain the mic before the Zoia. EQ, noise gate, compressor, and EQ for vocals.

    Hello Cuckoo
    I love the Bacid synth , would this only work using a keyboard ?
    I want to use such patches with a Audio input ie I plat sax or bass clarinet , I want a low synth to accompany my natural sound ?

    • @truecuckoo
      @truecuckoo  2 роки тому

      Thanks. There is a pitch tracking module in the ZOIA, but it’s a bit unreliable, and the latency is not the best. It’s still useful. And I’d imagine especially with clarinet it should be able to track well. Basically you plop out a pitch tracking module on the ZOIA, feed it with the audio in source, and out comes the pitch signal which you feed the pitch input of the synth. Then you’d have to make a gate from the audio levels of the incoming clarinet sound. With the right know how you could modify the patch quite easily to do what you want.

    Thoughts about the Micrio Dylan patch from a non Zoia user: it would be so cool to be able to play melodies with a patch like that. Would it be possible to controle the frequency of the comb filter (or the delay, whatever they call the module) though midi? I've heard such things are possible with one of the Mooger foogers.. Otherwise it must at least be possible to program some of the Zoia's buttons to quickly change the rate of the comb filter/delay unit to a specific value and thereby creating sort of a little weird synth! Penny for your thoughts! Is any of this possible??? Thanks for a really great video!

    • @truecuckoo
      @truecuckoo  5 років тому +1

      Basically the delay through filter feedback loop is taking a little bit of processing time, and the minimum time isn’t really that high in pitch. If they solved this in one dedicated module I’m sure they could’ve minimised the delay and added a delay buffer based on Hz rather than ms. I talked to Empress Effects a bit about it, and I think they have incorporated something to help make this possible now, but I haven’t followed up on it.

    really love your video on ZOIA, thinking on getting one myself, are there any limits/drawbacks to ZOIA?
    the form-factor reminds me of the microgrannny 2

    • @truecuckoo
      @truecuckoo  5 років тому +8

      Thanks Danila. I think the only real drawback is that once you get going, you want to build more and more elaborate patches. But the CPU has a limit to how much it can handle. The reverb engines are quite CPU hungry, so if you're gonna use the higher quality reverb engines, it's a good idea to think about that early on in the process.

    • @jarkokoo
      @jarkokoo 5 років тому +2

      I'd say the biggest limit at the moment is the patch memory having "only" 64 slots. I hope they'll be able to crank that up later via firmware update, or make it use the SD card for a direct patch storage as well. The CPU limit surely is there as well, like Cuckoo said above. It's most likely because of the heat issues. It's a small closed METAL box, like effect pedals usually are, and I like it that way, but it really limits the CPU they can use, as a more powerful CPU could overheat. The CPU limit also introduces "healthy restrictions", so it's not all bad. It forces you to optimize and be efficient with your creations. Would I like a bit more of CPU power? Sure, but I'm happy nevertheless. :)
      I'd also say, that if you think of it mostly as a virtual modular synth, I think you won't get the full potential out of it. IMO its true strength lies in it being a customizable effects unit, but this is of course just my opinion. But all I can say is that people have made just insanely inspiring effects with it. Already used few in my latests tracks (actually also instruments made with ZOIA) and many more in the tracks I'm working with. Overall, for me, it's been an awesome and inspiring little box. And I have to thank Cuckoo here for making great demos of it. Helped a LOT with the purchase decision. :)

    super nice job. Is the #15 punch bag fx playable by midi ? can we select the effects with midi note ? to sequence them for exemple ?

    • @truecuckoo
      @truecuckoo  5 років тому +1

      Thanks! That’s a good question. It’s not set up to play via MIDI notes right now.
      When I isolated the MIDI notes in that drum kit patch, it was a bit tricky actually. I didn’t find a straight forward way to send different notes of the same MIDI channel to different destinations. So I had to make some CV tricks to determine whether a CV value was a certain note, and then pass the gate on. I should’ve done it in this patch too!

    Hey Cuckoo,
    I downloaded you Zoia pack #1. Nice work!
    One question:
    One of the blocks in your patch "Sine Sic Synth" is playing a cat and mouse game with me. On the page 1 titled "Midi Osc LFO" the letter "N" of the grid is a VCA level control. I see two connections it has : "FM level:cv out" and "Multiplier:cv out". I'm able to find the multiplier connection but not the FM level one. I did see that you've created some UI buttons which hide some module blocks but even after removing them I'm not able to find where the FM level block is anywhere in the patch! Please help me before I lose my mind :) I highlight the block and then look for the lit block that it connects to but I'm not able to find it anywhere. You did not put it somewhere deep in the pages ?
    Thank you
