  • This is Kacee's first time watching reaction to the movie "Liar Liar"(1997). Conniving attorney Fletcher Reede (Jim Carrey) is an ace in the courtroom, but his dishonesty and devotion to work ruin his relationships. His wife, Audrey (Maura Tierney), has left him for a more dependable man, and Fletcher often breaks the commitments he makes to his beloved son, Max (Justin Cooper). When Max wishes his dad would stop lying for 24 hours, Fletcher suddenly finds that he can only speak the truth -- on the day his career-deciding court case has to be won.

The fact is that there is no way that Mrs. Cole could have won that case. It is true that a minor can not legally enter into a contract, but if they do enter into a contract by lying about their age they only have a small window of time, typically 6 months after they turn 18, to cancel the contract or else it goes into full effect. The fact that this was 13 years after she turned 18 means the prenup would have been fully enforceable and she would be entitled to nothing. On top of that, because Mrs. Cole lied about her age to get married, thus getting married under false pretenses, Mr. Cole would be able to get the marriage annulled, effectively meaning the marriage never happened, and she would not be entitled to any marital assets that way either.

The film is dedicated to Jason Bernard who played his last role as Judge Stevens in this film and shortly after died of a heart attack.
When Judge Stevens first walks in the courtroom and the guard says: "Please stand up to receive honorable Judge Marshall Stevens", Fletcher mocks the word "honorable". Since he was under the effect of the wish, he may know the judge is a corrupt one.
This is Jason Bernard's second appearance in a movie about a lawyer under the supernatural influence who ends up behaving like a maniac in court. The first was All of Me (1984) starring Steve Martin.

20:28 Watched LegalEagle's analysis of this movie, not to be this guy, but according to him, very unlikely that ruling would hold up. Richard could easily appeal on the grounds that Samantha committed fraud by lying to him about her age and she admits she did it.
One major plothole Fletcher could have easily gotten the continuance on the grounds he was just assigned the case and hadn't had enough time to prepare.

Yeah. Jerry's a good guy. It's a rare movie in which the ex-husband and the new partner actually end up getting along.

You know the blonde actress Jennifer Tilly is basically playing herself. She divorced Sam Simon (one of the creators of the Simpsons) & took millions of dollars from him. She's the perfect example of a oar that slept her way to the top.

No it’s not! Could we all please SHUT UP with the overuse of the word “underrated!” I’m soooo sick of hearing “underrated” every 2 seconds!
The Cable Guy was not actually a flop… even though people like to say it is. I hear nothing but positive reviews about it and most everybody says they love it

While I love this movie (it's second only to The Truman Show for me when it comes to Jim Carrey's movies), there's always been one thing about it that bugs me: they show Fletcher "winning" his court case with the truth, but he actually loses the case. If his client was a minor when she got married and didn't have parental consent, then not only would the pre-nuptial agreement be null & void, her marriage would also be null & void, so she's not entitled to any of the guy's assets...best case, she could try to push for child support (and would probably get it), but that's it. Kinda puts a damper on the courtroom scene.
