Last week, I got to meet the photographer who took the picture of all 6 when they were new and all lined up on the leg of the y in Salt Lake City in 2012. He was Lee Witten, and I met him at the Hostlers Model Railroad Museum.
If you ever get the chance, you should ride or walk the Katy Trail. The Katy Trail was turned into a walking/biking trail after the railroad stopped using it. The Katy Trail ran through the town I grew up in, and it was always fun riding it. Also always nice to learn about its history and the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad. Many towns the trail runs through have railroad museums with information about the MKT.
Seeing your controls brings back memories. My neighbor was a huge Lionel collector. He laid well over a mile of track on his property, including tunnels, above waterfalls. He sadly passed away before his design of running track to the roof was completed. Gradual slope throughout the property was as far as he got with it. You'd have to be asked by him to come see it. If you're a good kid, he'll let you check it out. Not sure what happened to his trains, but man they're beautiful!!!! Love Lionels
I've been fortunate enough to see three of the prototypes out on the the Southern Pacific heritage scheme, the Denver and Rio grande heritage scheme, and the Chicago northwestern heritage scheme they're really something to see in real life 👍👍
Your channel is really great to watch and appreciate all the work you put into each video. This one, was amazing! All the camera work with history lesson on each engine is mind blowing. I love watching these videos, and I hope your channel grows and grows! I really appreciate these vids... great stuff.
Awesome job Chris, that was a real mega train! We spend so much time running big steam it's easy to forget how much fun running big diesel is too. And when it comes to collecting, diesel is often a fraction of what a steam engine costs. What's even more exciting is that these steel giants are frequently seen running up and down the track of our very own towns! Thanks again for bringing all of these trains from your house to ours!
What a treat to see the Heritage Units, all 6 of 'em, run on the layout. Thanks for sharing. I actually saw a couple of them out in the wild when I was riding Amtrak some time ago. One was the Katy, I believe.
Chris I am so happy you mention TRAINWORLD! They are my best hobby store ever! Over 50 years You really need to see the Brooklyn Store. I love the engine you got I’m keep building up my huge military trains this summer I will be working hard to get all my tracks running so I can start doing more videos. It’s hard because of my left hand. You do get me jealous too your a fun guy to watch over all your my best I do watch others but you keep my attention
Although I've had a love for trains since childhood, I'm primarily a Gundam modeler. I've started to look into the railroad model scene primarily to start into landscape dioramas. Long story short, thanks for "hiding" that MG Gundam in the background of the layout!! Validated some theories, showed me some possibilities, and fueled some inspiration!
You capture the fun and amazement we feel with these trains so well. My complements. Especially like that rio grande diesel. Cant wait to run and photograph engines on my new trainboard. I know your videos are time consuming. Just hope I can approach your very polished presentations. Gary
What an awesome set of locomotives and a dream lash up. I only have one of the heritage units so far in the MoPac livery, but look forward to collecting the other 5. Thanks for sharing.
I thought it was interesting when you showed the power consumption on the Z-4000. I think you should do that more often. Thanks for the great videos and reviews. I’m learning a lot🚂👍
Hope your channel continues to grow. I'm a G scale guy but I still have my lionel sets. You should think about making some kids videos too. Try and inspire the next generation to tell dad to go buy them a set.
Great idea! I actually get quite a few emails from parents who are getting sets for their children so it has been very inspiring to watch so many start in the hobby. I have done a few starter set videos and plan to do more so thank you for this suggestion @Cannon Country!
Awesome lashup, Chris! When you get the new Katy fantasy scheme loco, you'll have to do this again to celebrate. What a great video to honour Union Pacific and its heritage roster!
Indeed! I was originally just going to order the Katy Heritage unit to go with the RBP version but then I saw how cool the others looked and thought..."video idea!". Thanks for watching!
Chris that was an awesome video, it was cool to see those heritage locos on your layout. I will probably never see the real thing. So it was cool. Thanks for sharing.👍😇👌
Hi Chris, lovely engines. I think the katy engine is very nice looking. I also think the two tone engine is very nice looking. Those are my favorites. I have just gotten a new engine from bigjigs rail heritage collection. It is an Ivatt locomotive that has cylinders on its sides. It is the first one I've ever seen in my life. It is one of the best tank engines I have ever seen and felt. I have also gotten some train cars for the new engine. The cars came with another engine but I don't like it very much. I would give it a 2 or 3 out of 10. I would give the Ivatt locomotive a 10 out of 10×2. I am going to try to get it in red. Hopefully I'll be able to get it quickly. Cory Mears
I think this is one of your best videos to date! What an incredible collection of diesels, and it’s amazing to see them all running together. Hard to pick a favorite, but other than the Katy, I really like the Rio Grande paint scheme and the Missouri Pacific (beautiful shades of blue). 👍
I was excited when Rio Grande won the vote to lead the train. Really cool scheme and I had not really looked at it prior to this video. Thanks as always my friend!
UP might have an impressive heritage fleet but if you look at all the steam locos and heritage units Norfolk Southern has done, it really gives UP a run for their money. If they still ran all the engines that were at one point part of the NS Steam program, it would be almost 10 engines. If only they could all be together at once! Excellent video, Chris! It's always exciting to see a new video from you!
It would be really cool to see the other railroads invest and celebrate their history like Union Pacific. You are right about all those engines they could be running! Thanks for watching @Jesse's Trains n' Things!
Brotherman, these engines are awesome!!!! How could only you be so lucky?? Go cat go aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa cool man cool😁😁😄😛🤟🤘👍👍👍👍 Keepem roling DADDY OOOO!!!!! YEA!!! WE LOVE IT BRO!!
I love that collection! All those units look good. I know it's not a true 100% of the real life representation but, it just bugs me that the front and back " bumpers with the steps" move with the wheels and not stationary with the body. But it has to have movement with couplers.
Great video Chris. My favorite unit is the Katy..love that paint scheme. Also the 6 unit lashup was fun to see; but I enjoyed seeing the individual units pull their own trains. Hope to see you at York..
Hi Chris, I'm from Germany and I'm getting the Rio Grande from Train World this week or next. It's not so easy for me to get to Lionel, I started my system last year. Your channel is really great
Wow! Ok I am impressed! Like REALLY impressed! You are fearless for sure. A six unit lash up … at speed! Tremendously enjoyable to watch . Out of the same catalog I have both MRL Engines on order. I have modeled my favorite railroad Montana Rail Link and have built my rendition of it. Love your long straightaways to watch those baby’s really run.

I was wondering if Lionel would include the 8444 with this run. Did they make that previously?? Probably did but I am being too lazy to Google at the moment :)
