Aoife's voice is so extraordinarily beautiful, a listener could be forgiven for not realizing just how good her guitar playing is - and it really is exceptionally good. What a joy!

Springstein's lyrics on Nebraska are some of the best, most literary lyrics compiled on any album. As a lower-class Jersey kid of roughly the same vintage as Springsteen, I'm amazed that someone from a provincial south Jersey town was able to inhabit and recount the dark stories of the downtrodden and quintessentially American characters that haunt these songs. It's evident from her performance that Aoife has the same reverence for the cinematic quality of Springsteen’s Nebraska songs. I'm always curious what musicians can bring to performing a cover. Aoife delivers the goods covering this extraordinary album released some 38 years ago.
@@WriterMikeMonson Oops. My regrets for leaving you with an unintended impression. I guess what's remarkable is that few people who hail from a modestly privileged social milieu (be it Freehold, Kankakee, or Two Dot, Montana), can rise above provincialism to recognize and express powerful universal truths like the best American poets.
Bob MacNeal ok, then, in the spirit of discussion rather than argument - are you saying that the majority of the best American poets are NOT from some “provincial” place? If so, what does that mean? What is an American place to be from that isn’t provincial? New York City? Chicago? Los Angeles or San Francisco? If so, then are all best American poets only from those places? I’ll do more research, but I don’t think so.
@@WriterMikeMonson Now that you mention it, maybe most of us come from a "provincial" place. As it happens, my favorite poet, Richard Hugo, rose out of a dirt poor depression era town south of Seattle. Perhaps a privileged upbringing isn't a leg up for poets. Freehold, NJ doesn't strike me as a hot bed for fledgling poets, but maybe such a place exists only in my imagination. I do tend to think of cities like SF as less "provincial" than say, Freehold, but those might be somewhat false narratives I've bought into because I want it to be so. I want to think that places like my idealized SF exist.
I loved that you chose to do this album and share it with us. The simple black and white video is perfect. As you say, the messages in these songs are as relevant today as ever - and will be a timeless treasure to pass on to our children. The most beautiful memories are poignant and simple. You make it so.
Nebraska was one of two or three cassettes I had in my old Toyota Corolla. After separation from my girl friend I travelled across the country, sleeping in the back of the Toyota, listening over and over to this songs
See yaa Miss O Donovan
The soulful journey this album takes you through is so appropriate in these times of challenge and unknown, I have heard many covers over the years and this is undoubtedly one of the best it has the heart of Bruce woven into it with a strong female vocalist with a unique voice and true talent thank you and please do more
1. Let’s not harm that warm feelings about this material and wonderful performance by responding to trolls. Best to ignore. 2. Aoife- I have so enjoyed your performances in these times. Thanks for your incredible work putting this great performance together.
Your version of my fathers house 🙂..I'm a massive fan of bruce and this album holds a special place in my heart ..I love your music and I thankyou for sharing your truly wonderful interpretations of these great songs ..♥️
Not to worry, it’s certified platinum, hit # 3 on the Billboard album charts, ranked 150 in Rolling Stone’s greatest albums of all time, and is one of the most critically acclaimed albums of the rock era, as well as one of the most beloved by Springsteen’s fans. So, you don’t have to feel alone in your feelings anymore!
I just found you. What a beautiful voice. It sounds like how when someone is calm and comfortable in their own skin, but in voice. Youre calming and cool. Just amazing. Thank you for this.
Aoife and housemates, that was outstanding!! Thanks for providing great art to consume. I could go for listening to a cover of an album every week, perhaps alternating with weeks of original material. We may be stuck at home for much longer than we want and although this is not as good as hearing you live, it's much much better than not hearing you at all. Thank you for making my night.
Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful gift. I have been listening to you a lot during this challenging time and finding so much comfort and inspiration in your voice and your music. I am telling every music loving person I know to listen to you. :)
This is just magical. Aoife's interpretation of one of the greatest albums of all time is a gift to all of us.
I've followed Aoife's music for a LONG time. This is the one that grabs me by the throat. She's a really good songwriter, but this album is legendary.
You have done justice to one of the great albums of all time, bravo

Ran across this today. Thanks for getting me through an otherwise mundane Monday afternoon.
Aoife's artistry is a gift to the world in a dark time.
I feel very fortunate to own a copy of this album. People like Aoife are so special. This performance is amazing. Thank you.
Nebraska with a female voice emphasises the sensitivity of the big_muscled man, thanks Aoife,.great job X
Brilliant! Thank you! I’m sure Bruce has seen and listened to this. If not, he should. Nebraska never sounded better.
Nailing it all the way and hearing it all in a new way. ❤

Is there some reason a person from South Jersey can't be a good poet?
