  • This is how I deleted my roof rails. These are the universal interior lights that I used to upgrade the middle dome light, cargo dome light, and in the lights that shine on the ground when you open one of the front doors. amzn.to/3WhB748 Let me know if you have any questions! I'm happy to help!

    With the wheel upgrades and roof rails remove it looks gorgeous

      Thanks! 😄 I've kinda switched gears and now I'm going for a bit of a sleeper vibe. I think it is so much fun to drive something that looks so chill but is surprisingly capable off road.

    Nicely made video. Appreciate lack of drama and music. Thinking of removing my rails and this was very useful for seeing what it entails. Thanks for putting it together.

    IMO he roof rails are one of the positive things about the car for anyone who does any outdoor activities or road tripping. Never thought of removing them

      Yeah, they are really useful for a lot of people, that's why I added the part at the beginning about using this video to install a big fancy roof rack.

    The car is looking really clean and sharp - (er). I'll admit I like the way it came out without the roof rails, and I would love to do this to mine if they were not so darn useful in my highest use of the car. Keep up the good work.

    • @MatthewHeiskell
      @MatthewHeiskell  Рік тому

      Thanks! 😄 Yeah, they are really useful for some people. I'd left them on the car if they were the Outback style, you know, with the folding cross bars built in.

    We just bought another 2010 Forester. She gets the nice one, and I'm keeping the rough one. I was going to steal the roof rails off of her nice one and install them on the rough one because it's getting a lift, AT tires, and bumpers. After seeing this, I think I'll do an after-market rail and rack system.

      Haha, yeah, messing with roof rails is a bit involved. Lots of aftermarket options like you said though. Sounds like it's going to be a sweet build! Try disconnecting or removing your swaybars. It adds a massive amount of off road capability and just a little more body roll on the road. Totally worth it for me.

    I really wish the Outback could be ordered with no roof rails, It would then look so clean and competitive with other brands.

    • @MatthewHeiskell
      @MatthewHeiskell  Рік тому

      But the outback has those cool roof rails that have built in cross bars! I kinda like that, haha. I’d certainly be less likely to remove that type, but yeah, I like the clean look. Cheers!

    Cooool…So what a spec on Lifted Kit ( medium load or high load )? I’m looking for
    Ironman Lift Kit but I don’t know how stiff filling. Thank you for sharing all VDO.

    • @MatthewHeiskell
      @MatthewHeiskell  Рік тому +1

      I have the original version of the Ironman suspension. I guess they call it “medium” spring rate now. It sits a littler lower than the Spec-C version, but the ride is more comfortable and I still have the extra suspension travel. Get the stiffer spring version if you carry a lot of stuff, or if you want more ground clearance at the expense of some comfort.

    I followed your video and it worked out perfectly! We had it all ready to go to take off the rails and found out 2 of the bolts are stripped and we can't take the nuts off...
    Do you have any ideas in removing them as its a tight spot?
    We thought about heat like a torch, or a nut cutter? Or trying to cut the bolt and nut off completely? Thank you! Anything helps❤

    Nice tutorial video mate - what are you long term plans for the car?

    • @MatthewHeiskell
      @MatthewHeiskell  Рік тому +1

      Thanks Steve! That's a good question! I think it is just about complete. I might add some pre-load spacers that I designed to compensate for the extra nose weight of the winch and bumper, but I don't have any other major plans for it. Oh, maybe some electrical stuff. I'd really like a "always on" 12 volt source in the cargo area.
