- In this spooky, Halloween edition of Gone But Not Forgotten, we're taking you way back to the early nineties, when NBC let Joe Dante (Gremlins) take a chance with perhaps the weirdest and most fondly remembered prime-time kids cult classic of the nineties, "Eerie, Indiana"! Despite running only nineteen episodes, the show has had a strong afterlife, being rebooted (badly) years later, and remaining a cult favorite to us children of the eighties and nineties. Join us as we look back at this unfairly canceled gem and reveal what the future may hold for this vintage TV fave.

Man, I loved this show as a kid. I caught the rerun in the late 90s here in the UK. My wife is the only other person I've ever met who actually saw it. One of the many reasons I married her.

Just had a similar conversation with my gf but she can't remember it. I think it was on channel 4, summertime for kids off school. There was a show called bug juice , fly on the wall show about American kids at a summer camp, and a show about a football team called Renford rejects on in the same daytime slot
Yes I remember it now because eir the opening with the lawnmowers and basketball team going down the street, since he was doing a paper round it always reminded me of paperboy haha

It is surprising that they never really did much after this. Omri had Hocus Pocus, but then just disappeared from acting. They were both very talented.
I always remember the episode where a kid had braces that made him hear dogs thoughts.
I’m like 99% sure that kid got eaten by dogs, cause they said they never saw him again. I couldn’t make it fit the narrative of the video but yeah that kid is dead
This show was awesome! Between this and Hocus Pocus, Omri Katz owned my heart.
My gosh, your scenario for bringing Eerie back is perfect! All they need are likeable leads, quality scripts and a production team that cares.

Eerie Indiana was Gravity Falls before Gravity Falls. I loved this show when it came on. I think this show was just ahead of it times.

It was super rare her in the UK, when I did see it I felt very lucky! Loved it and purchased the DVD set the moment I saw it around 10 years ago.
I also saw it when it came out in the UK, on ch4 it was, about 9pm.

Man this show was so good. Too good in fact. I watched that first season religiously on c4 in the UK and it felt like me and my dad were the only ones who knew about it.
Glad you gave a shout out to how great a sidekick Simon was. And I'm also surprised Omri Kats didn't go on to a greater career as he had amazing presence for such a young age.
You just got me right in the nostalgia.

Loved this show as a kid. I actually found it on Prime and rewatched the whole. I was blown away as a kid that I was one of the few of my friends who knew about this show. It was fun, weird, and quirky and I enjoyed every minute of it. I agree that towards the end it was a bit off-brand, but this show will definitely have a solid place in my childhood memories.

Wow I thought I was the only one who remembered this show! Omri Katz was also on 'Dallas' when he was younger, playing John Ross Ewing III (the son of J.R Ewing himself.)
This and Round the Twist were my childhood!

I’m currently introducing the original series to my 8 year old and he absolutely loves it. I also introduced him to Starblazers (and Starblazers 2199). So far he’s eating up everything awesome.
I loved this show so much when I was a kid! I bought the dvd's when they first came out, and I still watch them now.
This was the best of them. So well made too. We had it on Channel 4 in the UK and Ireland.
Very much a child friendly version of Twin Peaks.

Just the channel I need for my insomnia. & Man U just gave me flash backs with that show , I totally remember watching it as a kid. Definitely showing this to my kids this Halloween weekend!
I still remember seeing the ‘Heart on a Chain’ episode like almost 30 years ago as a kid. It obviously left an impression as I still remember all the plot points and a lot of the scenes. There’s TV shows I watched last week that I don’t remember as much!

Are you afraid of the Dark and Goosebumps didn't air here, from what i remember, but Eerie Indiana did, so that is my main childhood horror show
I love Wonderfalls! I didn't watch it when it originally aired, but found it years afterwards after looking up things that Lee Pace was in. I ended up watching and loving the show.
This show was great, wish it lasted longer
My family loved this show. Even just recently we were talking about old shows and movies and we all remembered it fondly.
Finally! Someone else who remembers and likes this show! It really WAS 'Twin Peaks' for kids, but in the best way! And I'm glad somebody reminded me that Omri Katz was in this. I was JUST trying to remember where else I knew him from!
I watched this in Ireland as a kid .. I loved it . There was nothing else like it on TV at the time. I only managed to see a hand full of episodes then it disappeared .. Im a Dad myself now and have shown it to my two boys who really enjoyed it.

I also loved this series watched it when I was nine or ten. One of my theories was that Eerie had what we now call a "Weirdness Censor", a very strong one, and only Marshall was immune to it for some reason (Simon sometimes couldn't tell when something was wrong until Marshall pointed out and Marshall's family never caught on anything).
I thought this would be addressed at some point and it would be a mayor plot point, but alas it never happened.
Cancelled... we never get to keep good things.

Another deep cut Easter egg is in the scene where Marshall and Simon return the money, effectively "killing" Mr. Wilson. It’s reminiscent of the famous HAL death scene from Kubrick's 2001 when he sings “Daisy Bell.” But in the ATM’s case, he sings "99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall” in an agonizing way.
Loved this show when I was kid👍♥️ and I still think it stands the test of time 👍👍🙂

Watched it when it was shown on Nickelodeon in the early 1990s. Never known anyone else who watched it. Same with Pete and Pete. Man the 90s were great

@@BigGator5 I actually wrote the reply before I finished the video. I didn't know it was going to be mentioned. It's really bad. I collected the book series also and most of it was based from the original series. When book 13 came out as "Another Dimension" with different characters, I was so angry, I stopped buying them.
And yes, that was prior to the time I found the reboot

I used to watch this in Germany when I was a child. I still remember the 'heart on a chain' episode. That was the saddest thing I ever watched during my childhood.

2022 ~ Great video. As I was looking to watch an episode of Eerie Indiana I found your channel. New subscriber!
I absolutely loved this show as a kid. But here in the UK, no else I tried to talk about it with seemed to even know what it was. I re-watched them recently, and for the most part, I think they hold up pretty well. There's a few meh episodes, but then I thought that when I watched them as a kid too.
Ha! What a deep pull (even if it is on Amazon Prime now). Thanks for the nostalgia for my childhood.

Probably intentional - You showed a clip of Aladdin singing early on and then later mentioned Scott Weinger having a guest role on Eerie Indiana.... the actor who did the voice of Aladdin :)
I was 25 when this show came out and I LOVED it, watched it religiously every week, recorded it (VHS in those days) and rewatched it to catch the Easter eggs and such. My favorite episode is The Lost Hour, which I try to watch every year at this time, the day that the clocks are set back. to watch what happens when Marshall protests Indiana's lack of Daylight Saving Time (they didn't have it in 1991!) by turning his watch back an hour, unleashing mega-Eerie-voodoo-weirdness. Loved the milkman character, genius concept tying in with the widespread (at the time) missing children on milkboxes, and loved the idea that, 80 years later, Marshall was still fighting Eerie weirdness. As far as the Dash X character ... I found the concept interesting, loved him in The Loyal Order of the Corn with Ray Walston. I always believed that the character was Dash X from the future... I don't think they ever really sorted out that character and gave him proper motivation for some of the bad guy things he did.

I used to love this show!!! And I was so disappointed when it got cancelled! Such a great show. (And I still have a crush on Julie Condra to this day! She was also Madeleine on “Wonder Years”). That episode with the heart transplant is a classic. And sadly, I do remember both “Swan’s Crossing” and “The Torkelson’s”. Ugh.
Eerie Indiana was ahead of its time. The show even came before the X-Files. What I loved about the show was it didn’t insult the intelligence of children and Joe Danté even said it was an adult show told by children. The cast was top notch and the writing was original. Eerie Indiana could’ve easily had a good run of 5 seasons but NBC screwed it all up in the time slots. Eerie Indiana is one of the best television shows of all time despite only having 19 episodes in one season.
P.S. - Justin Shenkarow and Omri Katz said they would be happy to reprise their old Eerie Indiana roles so long as they have a respectable script and are able to get the rights approved from Lionsgate Entertainment. I fully agree with the expressed opinions on the false sequel to Eerie Indiana. The Other Dimension had no respect or genuine reference to the original series and the writing was just haphazard and lackadaisical. I believe they just wanted to capitalize on the Eerie Indiana fandom and caused a retraction in its stead. I really want Eerie Indiana to get the proper reboot that it deserves. #bringbackeerieindiana
I remember thinking this show was really weird. A few episodes I remember is the dog one, the creepy woman who lived next door and the one with the guy who stole stuff like pens, toys and the dads suitcase

I used to watch this show all the time when I was a kid. It was great.
In 1997, I first caught Eerie Indiana back in Grade 4 (1996-97) and beginning of Grade 5 (late 1997) when it generated a new fan base, when the Fox Kids Network (Bobby's World, X-Men, Power Rangers, C Bear and Jamal) aired the series on Saturday mornings as a 1996-97 midseason replacement show (Life With Louie) on Saturday mornings from January 25 to September 27, and on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from November 10 of that same year, until January 2, 1998, gaining something of a cult following despite its short run. I was only 10 years old when I first saw it on Fox Kids for a 12 month run, and 2 seasons of reruns. This was in early to fall 1997. 2 months later, Fox Kids temporarily aired the show returning as a midseason replacement show filler (Goosebumps) Mondays and Wednesdays at 4:30 p.m. ET from November 10, 1997 to January 2, 1998. It was originally on NBC from September 15, 1991 to April 12, 1992, and the final episode was aired for the first time in late 1993, when the show was syndicated on The Disney Channel. The show was briefly syndicated in reruns on The Disney Channel from October 7, 1993 to late March 1996. The renewed popularity of the series encouraged Fox Kids to produce a spin-off Eerie, Indiana: The Other Dimension, lasting only one season in 1998.

I remember watching it then. There was a huge Hype surrounding it. My mother had heard of it and was promoting my ability to watch it. It wasn't " super Mario 3 in The Wizard ' hype but strong enough for me to have watched them all on their airing.

Here in Norway where I'm from and live they aired this Tv show on norwegian children's Tv every Friday evening as I remember.It was under the Grunge era in the early 1990's.I was age 13 in 1992 and enjoyed every episode of the show🚪🛋🕯😊

Binged this series the last 2 weeks. Really solid show as a Hoosier and I think Outer Limits isn't quite that bad. It's free on UA-cam in multiple forms now.
The only time this aired in the UK in the 80s was during the afternoon on weekdays, meaning I could only watch it on the rare occasions I was home from school. But the fact it was so difficult to see made it even more mysterious and unique. It was like a magical creature that would show up once or twice a year and drag me into an alternative dimension for a half hour

This video came up in my recommended, so it prompted me to check for a DVD set. It's on its way from eBay right now. This is my teenage show, it is dear to my heart. You are right, the Dash-X character was just a weird change of direction.
I shall have to sell the premise to my son as an influence on Gravity Falls as he's a fan of that show.

This was my mom's favorite show growing up. She recently showed me it and I LOVED IT!
Especially the final episode, im disappointed that it ended on that note but man that finally got me theorizing.
Ps: I tryed to watch the spin off show and couldn't even get through the first episode. It is a insult to the og series.
