Part of the charm of the original Munsters was their lack of self awareness that they were odd along with their calm, restrained, classiness. This new version seems to depart from all of that, choosing instead to go over the top on all fronts.
The whole premise of The Munsters was that they were a pleasant 50's-style nuclear family who had no idea there was anything remotely odd about them. A lot of the humour came from the reactions of other people and The Munsters being utterly oblivious to the cause of it. Am not seeing much of that in this trailer, it's "wacky monsters" which I can't help feel misses the point a bit.
as a musician I've seen him live twice and he's AWESOME. as for movies, I'm sick of everyone remaking and rebooting all the classics and just ruining everything. I'm sure this won't be any different. it looks terrible. and his wife can't act worth a crap.
Thank you,I think the majority of horror fans is so done with his campy attitude, everything is a joke to him.Obviously. Wow is like bound contractually by their marriage contract never to cast another leading lady? I don't even care,so done with watching anything he makes. Its not horror, it's redivivus
I'm always astounded by how much Rob Zombie can miss the point of something he's such a huge fan of. I'm not usually one to just dump on anybody's creative endeavor, especially when I have the choice to view it or not, but every time I see that he's doing another remake, I just quietly and mournfully say "nooooo."
It’s like people getting mad about politics in Star Trek. Love it, hate it, it’s what the show was about. It’s like they only like the idea of trek, not the reality. Same case here. He had his idea of what Munsters was, then filled in the blanks with stuff he made up. It’s very jarring.
It was like Johnny Depp on Dark Shadows. He claimed to be a fan of the soap opera, but decided to make Barnabas Collins a character with weird antics (like his other roles) instead of a intimidating and serious character like Jonathan Frid did. Also the movie itself missed the point of the show because it was not a comedy or a "dark comedy" like Addams Family, but a serious soap opera with supernatural elements.
@@geligniteandlilies Um, it’s called “being creative.” Who better to do an adaptation than a fan? He has the right to do it his way. The movie isn’t even released yet.
Eh, I liked Halloween. A completely original take on that of an original IP, that I respect because it does it’s own thing towards Michael and his story of how he became the monster he’s known for. That and also because that may just be the most brutal and terrifying Michael Myers I have ever seen.
At least they both played some version of Frankenstein before. Peter, obviously from Young Frankenstein, but Brad voiced a parody version for a cartoon called Toonslyvania.
Tbh, I kinda liked seeing Eddie Izzard’s take on Grandpa in Mockingbird Lane, but I can’t help but wonder what Izzard would look like in the classic makeup.
I'm old enough to remember when Paul McCartney thought his wife Linda was the bees knees at singing so stuck her in everything, despite the poor woman being tone deaf. Rob Zombie reminds me of that regarding his wife's acting.
I Think you mean Yoko Ono being the Singer in all the shit John Lennon put out. *SHE* is the one you should be talking about being just plain Deaf. Holy GOD her Screeching is enough to Raise the Dead.
It’s common, actually. I think these women filled a void to these musicians after their big bands broke up and they wondered what was next, if anything was next. They relied on them to the point of seeing a new creative partner in them, even if there was nothing in the new well, so to speak.
Brad Garrett would have been an amazing pick for Herman. Match him up with Cate Blanchett as Lily. Surprisingly, Daniel Roebuck seems like a good choice for Grandpa.
I think after Fred Gwynne, the best actor at playing Herman Munster was Edward Hermann. He was wonderful as Herman in the 1995 Munsters TV film. He got high props from the surviving cast members because they said it was eerie -- it was like Fred Gwynne was back (he died 2 years earlier from cancer just after finishing My Cousin Vinnie).
When this movie originally came out, I heard a loud rumbling sound. Turned out to be Fred Gwynne, Al Lewis and Yvonne DeCarlo spinning in their respective graves.
it is such a delightful surprise to see Sheri Moon Zombie star in a Robert Zombie project! I nearly had a stroke when I heard that news. was NOT expecting this at all.
She is a good horror actor. Don't know why people hate on her for working with husband. If u work with your best friend it's fun I imagine. Pretty sure Rob said their best friends. The best actors won't save thus movie
doesn't matter if she's in this or in a different movie does it? haters will hate regardless, Robs fans are fans because they like the team who makes his movies.. while the rest of is don't give a shit
Was hoping for a quick take on that trailer, and you’re spot on! When a film made in 2021/2022 looks cheaper, with worse lighting and angles and effects than a tv show from the 60s, it doesn’t raise your expectations very high…
What made slapstick shows like the munsters, three stooges, laurel and hardy, little rascals etc. so beloved was the time period they were in. We’re watching them have fun by using what was around them. The time they lived in complimented their tone and they didn’t feel out of place. I believe attempting to “revive” any of these classics needs to include the culture, technology and humanity of their time in order for it to feel believable. Clearly we still cling to these classics for what they portrayed and how they made us feel because we keep trying to recapture it. To peer back in time to what made the world laugh and be amazed at its simplicity is the strength behind its nostalgic immortality.
I couldn't have said it any better myself! Remaking those classic comedies of years gone by is like trying to capture lightning in a bottle -- damn near impossible. That said, I wish Rob Zombie all the luck in the world, but with that hokey trailer, and the fact that he's working with a straight-to-video company, he's going to need all the luck he can get!
"looked like a regular sitcom of the era" Yes, and THE ERA was playing more with reality than playing with fiction, like getting obsessed about canon and lore. That was before every product became so synthetic, and it was before PEOPLE became this synthetic, saying anyone who doesn't go along with it is just "missing the point" You in the modern era don't HAVE the point. "The Point" is not to be obsessively indulgent in escapism, and having laws like needing to clearly define what is an ad and what is "part of the programming". It's this huxleyan nightmare that makes you so disappointed with reality, and so obsessed with the magic of uncaptured nostalgia like it was something that could only exist then. With the same adult self-awareness, those old sitcoms WERE like that, and ARE like that in every other culture.
One of my biggest problems with the trailer is something I haven't seen someone else mention, being that the trailer seems so empty because of the bigger aspect ratio and there also being a maximum of 3 characters on screen at best. Another thing is how there aren't any real character interactions which was like the main point of the show considering it was a sitcom.
As a child of the 60s, shows like The Munsters or Adams Family are "part" of me. Rather than compare how well adapted or duplicated this film could be I am more thrilled to see another take on the family, The Munsters. While I am a fan of RZ's work both musically and theatrically, I have found that his interpretations of stories are just that; his interpretations. I'm not a fanboy (or fanoldman) but I do like much of RZ's work. Not at all unwilling to take issue with his work - I found 31 to be a farce but really enjoy The Lords of Salem (ya, I know, both of them are meh to many). So rather than go into this film with an expectation of how accurately the original series has been portrayed in a "feature film", I am just going in hoping to be entertained. Let's be honest - art is subjective.
Same, I’m just hoping it is a fun ride. I watched a ton of Nick at Nite growing up and always loved The Munsters. Herman and Grandpa were the absolute best
Kevin Smith puts his buddies in every movie. I mean Clerks was most his friends. His wife and daughter have been in a bunch of his movies. Scorsesse does as well and even put him mom in his movies. Rob too uses a lot of the same people including his wife. Not saying she is a good actress but this is common for other directors.
I saw a black and white version of the trailer on Cody Leach's channel and I have a feeling that large sections are meant to be black and white and have been recoloured. The cheap looking colours look very good in black and white, with the kinda washed out and clashing colours bringing out the contrast in greytones. I have a feeling it's gonna be a few days after release before the first fan versions start popping up, after which there's gonna be a scramble to release an official decoloured director's edit.
This brings up a really good point. The original show finished its run when Rob Zombie was 1 year old, meaning he was only familiar with it later in life when it was running in syndicated reruns. As such it looks like he missed the entire satirical element of the show since it was divorced from its own time. Like me watching it in the 80s, all he saw then was a goofy comedy with monsters.
I'm quite a bit younger than RZ, but I get the satire. My mom and grandparents watched reruns of this and the Addams Family for most of my childhood. I'm sure there's a difference between having lived it and having an understanding of it (as I've learned with my kids trying to grasp the 90s culture) but I think it's possible to understand it well enough to do it justice. Of course, that doesn't mean RZ actually got it. I'm just saying, it's possible to have seen it later and still get it and appreciate it.
An interesting bit of trivia: The Munsters and The Addams Family started in the same week on two different networks and were both canceled in the same week two years later.
"It was your standard 60s family sitcom where the family just so happened to be monsters." I feel pretty certain that this is why any reboot of The Munsters is most likely doomed to fail. We lack the cultural frame of reference that made it work in the first place. The original relied on people recognizing the aesthetics and tropes of more straightforward sitcoms from the era, whereas it looks like Rob Zombie is just relying on you recognizing The Munsters. That's a lot less interesting. If it must be rebooted, I think the best approach would be to update that original prompt for the present era, by putting a monster family into something that looks similar to more recent sitcoms like Modern Family and The Office.
If Zombie's afraid no one will recognize the tropes that The Munsters were parodying, he hasn't been paying attentions. No one was having trouble recognizing them in Wandavision.
I hate to agree with you, but I think you're right. I think a decent person to take a stab at it would be Gendy and Adam Sandler. Their hotel Transylvania series I think worked pretty well.
I saw the trailer for it in black and white and it at least somewhat captures the same spirit of the original series. In color, it looks and feels like a fan film made by Spirit Halloween for TUBI, free.
Trying to fill Fred Gwynne’s shoes is practically and figuratively, an impossible task IMO. They may make Jeff D Phillips look like him, but they cannot ever make him sound like Fred. And casting Zombies wife in everyone of his films, has grown so tiresome. She’s insufferable on/off screen.
Edward Hermann came pretty close. He was VERY good in the 1995 Munsters TV movie and impressed the original cast members who made a cameo in the movie.
Fred played up that deep baritone voice but he also made the character act childish. You'd be hard pressed to find an actor who could do both so well and make it seem authentic.
I saw them around that time with Fear Factory, first tour after Hellbilly Deluxe, it was fine, remember Sherri at that time was just a go go dancer he used in the concert set background...
I saw Rob zombie in 98 in Worcester Massachusetts during the Korn "family values" tour. He went on before Korn and absolutely killed it. It was one of the most amazing shows I've ever seen. Probably the same tour that you saw, but my experience was fucking nuts. I'll never forget it. He made Korn look like a high school band....
@@CurtisEWipe yeah what we shouldn't underestimate is how much of a toll a tour can take on a performer's voice. It ain't magic. You overuse it with harsh vocals like he does and you'll hit a point where every show after you'll sound like a shithead
I think that any Munsters movie is difficult to do without Fred Gwynne. If you have watched any of the original show, he just was a terrific actor and brought something to that role that no one else can bring. Al Lewis is also a great actor, but Fred made the Munsters go.
Here Come the Munsters, the TV movie, is proof that you can do a great Munsters film without the original cast. But it looks like Rob Zombie didn't even try.
What original creators and cast had is not possible to fully reproduce authentically. That magic resided with all the original elements. Could someone remake Dr Strangelove or any other classic without missing on the essential ingredient of original creative talent? It is better just to do something new, but referencing a particular style as an homage to a well loved icon.
@@frederickbehn5610 This isn't the first remake though. They did a sequel series in the 80s that was awful. Did two direct to TV movies. They attempted the Mockingbird Lane series. A theatrical Munsters movie has been in the works for many years. It was close to being made by the Wayans Brothers. Marlon was going to play Grandpa. I have little expecations for this. I hope it's like the 90s Adams Family movies (nobody ever said don't remake them) but it looks on par with the awful Johnny Depp Dark Shadows movie.
I have a theory: There’s some producer making studio demands. Rob probably wants the film to be in Black and White. To get his way they release this jarring trailer with horrible color saturation to get the fans riled up. Then Rob can say “look we need to lose the color, give the fans what they want, it worked for sonic”.
@@coreycleven8414 Well "good" publicity, I think that idea of any publicity is good publicity is a outdated idea now, pissing people off to get people to know about the film is going to make those people not watch it
I was thinking the exact same thing. And it would explain why the colors are so over the top. Old TV shows would choose weird colors because they looked better in B&W than the real colors.
@@justincoleman3805 Uh. The Devils Rejects is fucking amazing. i also love House of a 1000 Corpses, but to say Devils Rejects is Bad, is just wrong. and all his movies have style, "some have no Substance i guess" but still. his Remake of Halloween wasn't as bad as some of the ones before it, like Halloween H20 or some of those other Terrible movies after part 3.
I had the same thought as you did when saying the trailer was a product rushed out by the studio, the footage that was used (outside of the black and white recreation of the intro) looked unfinished and it just felt like something that was hastily slapped together by an intern that was trying to get it done as quickly as possible. With that being said, I'll withhold my judgement until they release the final trailer.
I have no doubt they hired him because he can take a tiny budget and make something that looks great and, that is probably about where his control ends. IF NBC Universal actually cared about The Munsters that 1313 Mockingbird Lane crap would have never happened
I actually saw the B&W version of the trailer first, and it looked good to me. Then I saw the color trailer. I'm fairly certain this film will be released in both B&W and color versions, like the recent Twilight Zone reboot.
Sid Caesar's last movie ever is also underrated, which was Vegas Vacation. It doesn't compare to the previous Vacations, but it's better than it gets credit for.
I grew up watching The Munsters, and I consider it one of the greatest TV shows ever. As a life long fan I will be watching Rob’s version. Hopefully on the big screen. Some of my favorite episodes are when Herman works at a Chinese laundry and when he tries out for the Dodgers.
Consider that years ago The Wayans Brothers were close to making a Munsters movie. Imagine how bad that would've been. Seth Meyers in 2017 almost made a Munsters tv series. A fish out of water type show with the Munsters living in Brooklyn. Rob's movie looks more like Dark Shadows with Depp than the 90s Addams Family, which I was hoping this would be more like. We will see. It can't be anywhere as bad as The Munsters Today series.
I’m a huge Rob Zombie fan. Love his music and movies. That being said, when I heard he was making a Munsters movie I groaned out loud. You can not remake a classic like that! And I knew of course, his wife would be cast in it. I enjoy a lot of her performances but damn, EVERY movie he makes?! Gets tiresome.
I’ve heard the movie had a budget somewhere between $30-$40 million behind it and that Zombie potentially wasted a good chunk of it recreating Mokingbird Lane and The Munsters house right down to using old blueprints which is why it looks so cheap
@@ryanjacobson2508 Maybe because he was a fan of the sitcom and he really wanted to do it. Wait until the movie is actually released before you make a judgment.
Does Rob ever make a movie where Sherri isn't a main cast member? That's not shade truly - I love them both. I can't deny that these are some very valid points though!
All of the original Munsters actors can continue to rest peacefully knowing that their legacy will remain intact. Sometimes you just need to leave well enough alone. There will never be anyone that will be able to fill Fred Gwynne, Yvonne DeCarlo and Al Lewis' shoes as the Munsters. Likewise for the original Addams Family. Both shows and their original acting casts are TV gold.
If I were to pick a person to play Herman Munster it would’ve been Brad Garrett he does a phenomenal impression of Fred Gwynn’s Herman Munster. Just my opinion.
@@JoeChillton Yeah I hope Peacock does that for sure, or it's going to be a disaster trying to watch this on an OLED TV with HDR enabled, as it was bad enough on my Nokia T20 tablet with the trailer, which is where I usually end up watching a lot of stuff on, as my other 1/2 ends up watching some cheesy soap on our TV I don't care about, and Peacock(the only other streaming service besides Vudu) does not seem to work on my Linux computers.
I don't think Universal cares...I would bet money Rob Zombie made all of the choices he did for a black and white movie and Universal decided on their own to make it color and slapped this trailer together....These are the same people who actually allowed 1313 Mockingbird Lane to be made
I think it could work if it was done better sort of like Munsters go home that was in color this feels like when we see a show from the 60’s like bewitched or the dick van dyke show and they were in black and white originally but have been colorized it looks off unless they are able to get color set photos to match the colors
Okay. I'm only :37 into this video and watched Sheri Moon Zombie as Lily and I am already done. That's it! And that's all! He might as well reboot Ferris Bueller's Day Off or Back To The Future because that's exactly how horrible this is already. Sorry, man. I can't do Sheri Moon Zombie anymore!!!
She can't act. She's not even that good looking. No ass. No tits, and the same expression in every scene. Herman looks & sounds terrible.Wheres Eddie? Where's the humor? I saw the og 'Munsters go home' trailer, and that had more charm, more smiles, & more heart than a basket full of babboon hearts than this new flatlinig RZ Trailer, Dear God- please let this movie end RZ career.
You did not waste any time throwing this video together. I watched all your previous videos on The Munsters so I was eager to find how you felt. I'm glad to see we're in agreement. I just couldn't believe how bad that trailer was. Now knowing that is was made under Universal 1440, it all makes sense. Rob Zombie must truly be a hardcore fan, if he was desperate enough to do this under 1440. I wish this had been made for a theatrical release and had been directed Joe Johnston. Between The Rocketeer and Cap. Amer.: The First Avenger, he knows how to recreate an older era and stay true to it.
It looks more like a 90's music video mixed with the budget and skill of an 80's public access show. Sometimes it looks like they didn't have a sound engineer on set.
When I first saw the trailer, I felt like we were being trolled. I wondered if they just made the trailer to prank us. I'm reserving judgement... but I'm not as excited as I was originally.
In general, I like Rob Zombie's movies. I loved his take on Halloween, and I thought the others were pretty decent, too. So when I heard he did a Munsters reboot, I was super excited. Then I saw the trailer. It made me sad. Fred Gwynne and Al Lewis are turning in their graves.
I was really excited for this and I really really wanted to like it. I just couldn't sit through it all. The fact that there are people who watched this and left reviews that make it sound like the best thing since sliced bread just boggles my mind. I don't mind low budget, that's fine. Star Wars used potatoes. Rocky Horror used cardboard cutouts. I don't know, maybe I have too much bias toward the old b/w version. I liked that it was funny but still serious. It was endearing.
I feel like it could've looked fine if it was in color. The Addams Family movie from the 90s did a great job replicating the style of the comic strips and show while still being in color, by making the Addams house have shadowy and muted colors while the world outside is naturalistic and grounded. I feel it could've done something like that but I never imagined it looking so cheap. It felt like a fan film made for TUBI. It also doesn't help with the casting. (Besides Grandpa.) But Sherri Moon was never a good actress and God-for-bid, Rob couldn't make a movie without her in it. I hate her voice impression, I hate her smug af face expressions and you can tell she was cast, not because she was a talented actor, but because she's hot and is the director's wife. The main three actors were also in Rob Zombie's Halloween II as workers at a strip-club. Sherri Moon Zombie played Michael Myers's mom who was a stripper, the actor playing Grandpa Munster was the owner of the club, and Herman was a bouncer. Just typing that makes me want to cry. 😔😞
Nepotism aside, the constant disparaging of Sherri as an actress is BS. Her performance in Lord's of Salem was great, and what she did with Baby across Corpses and Rejects shows she has range. I think she and Rob were simply miscast for Halloween. Now, the issue with this Munsters movie, it's the fact that it's a prequel for me. It's kinda guaranteed to end up where the series starts, so what's gonna get me invested in the plot? Plus, not getting an Eddie or Marilyn kinda sucks.
The Addams Family movies had Raul Julia, Anjelica Huston, Christina Ricci, and Christopher Lloyd.... that's four power house character actors that BRING IT. That's the "not f-ing around" crew. Then they upped the ante in the sequel with the addition of Cusack, MacNicol and some great cameos.
I could not agree more, with this video. You put my thoughts and feelings, towards this trailer, in to perfect words. Another great video. I wish I had as much confidence in the US Economy, as Rob Zombie has in Sheri Moon's acting ability.
This is one of those instances where all the ingredients are present - but there's no straw stirring the drink. Zombie thinks he's stirring the drink, but he only stirs it badly.
I'm pretty interested to see it. It's clearly a Hollywood story, so the color saturation is referential both to the source and just TV of the time in general and potentially plot relevant in universe. Additionally, I feel like Grandpa is channeling a bit of Svengoolie much like Lily is channeling a fair bit of Elvira. I'm expecting more of a love letter to the era than jut the Munsters. I realize I've stumbled on a Munsters fan channel so that may be sacrilegious but I think it's going somewhere with all of that.
9:17 devil's advocate here, her character is a vampire so presumably extremely long life span so I can forgive that aspect (what we perceive as someone looking a certain age) and Hermann is a Frankenstein-eqsue monster that was put together using multiple donors for some reason so I can actually overlook that.
Herman needs a deeper voice, it's too weird. A normal voice makes him seem less imposing since he's supposed to be this goliath. And they should've made the color look like it does in Wizard of Oz (technicolor I guess?).
That was my main takeaway from the trailer. Sam McMurray was a lot more convincing as Herman in that Christmas movie than how the actor here came across.
The teaser was pretty good. The full trailer… not so much. I want to give the benefit of the doubt that the trailer was just bad and isn’t a reflection of the film itself and that the film is pretty good. But, we’ll have to wait and see. Keep up the great work man. Have a great weekend!
It’s a really bad dichotomy wherein Zombie is both the right person and the wrong person for the job. He’s a huge fan and should know what’s appealing and works about The Munsters because if that, but he also has zero experience in children’s and family friendly media outside of being a production assistant on PeeWee’s Playhouse so has no idea how to make something that isn’t grim dismal looking
This. When I first heard he was doing this I thought, great, can't wait to see the Munsters as poor trailer trash that use the f-bomb like a comma. Of course, I also thought his wife would be playing Lily, and wow, look at that... lol
I like the Munsters well enough, but my favorite modern stab at it was the Bryan Fuller Mockingbird Lane. I REALLY liked what they were doing with it, taking it more “realistic” and less campy while not fully abandoning the camp (how can you with Eddie Izzard as Grampa?). Not only am I saddened the pilot wasn’t picked up for series, there’s no easy legal way to acquire the pilot for personal rewatching.
@@kyrauniversal aw, thank you very much! I’ll check it out! UPDATE: doesn’t seem available on Tubi or Peacock for me but I’ll keep searching. Thanks anyway!

My theory is that it's supposed to be black and white, but the studio said no. (The same thing happened with Frank Darabont's The Mist) When it comes out, watch it a second time in black and white.
I sort of buzzed through the entire film a few minutes ago and I can confirm - it is NOT just a bad trailer. The finished product is this bad trailer amped up to 11. ATROCIOUS. It makes Ghostbusters 2016 look good by comparison.
One reason why the late Robert Morse and Edward Hermann were great in the underappreciated 1995 TV Movie was their chemistry together. Morse a stage and screen veteran since the 1960s had the comedy timing better than anyone who had ever played Grandpa besides Al Lewis and played if Edward Hermann near pitch perfect Herman made the film work. When Fred Gwynne teamed up with Al Lewis on Car 54 Where Are You were such a hit years before that when it came to The Munsters that they were in from nearly day one. Indeed the original pilot with different actors as Lilly-Eddie showed promise but producers knew that recasting was in order and fortunately Yvonne DeCarlo-Butch Patrick clicked with Gwynne-Lewis to perfection. Unfortunately Rob Zombie's trailer isn't promising to say the least and if it's just a bad cut there might be hope that the film is better but it might be as bad as it appears...💀
I was born almost 30 years after the Munsters were cancelled but I used to love watching reruns of the Munsters. I was truly bummed when I found out that Rob Zombie was going to be directing the reboot
In the dribs and drabs I had heard about this movie I had assumed it was going to be a modestly budgeted "four quadrant" production for the theatrical market. I think a lot of people assumed the same. When the trailer dropped and it looked like a straight to video movie for eight year olds it definitely came as a shock. Learning that this was always meant to be released by Universal's bottom of the barrel production arm straight onto the worst streaming platform in the game, it all makes a little more sense. I am still baffled by the amount hype, such as it was, that was generated for this project when it was always meant to be disposable platform filler.
And that was a success because of Beavis and Butt-Head. At this point I wish they would've left Winger alone (they were good musicians, BTW) and goofed on Zombie instead.

What an absolutely ridiculous comment.🙄

That and also because that may just be the most brutal and terrifying Michael Myers I have ever seen.

I totally agree.
Edward captured what Fred's Herman was supposed to be, earnest, a little naive, sweet and unaware that he was different

Was hoping for a quick take on that trailer, and you’re spot on!
When a film made in 2021/2022 looks cheaper, with worse lighting and angles and effects than a tv show from the 60s, it doesn’t raise your expectations very high…
Agreed 100%, even low budget Troma movies look better shot than this!!
I heard they kept the show in black and white too
What made slapstick shows like the munsters, three stooges, laurel and hardy, little rascals etc. so beloved was the time period they were in.
And filmed in black in white gave it a certain scary early Hitchcock look so the humor was delivered unexpectedly funnier.
"looked like a regular sitcom of the era"
Yes, and THE ERA was playing more with reality than playing with fiction, like getting obsessed about canon and lore. That was before every product became so synthetic, and it was before PEOPLE became this synthetic, saying anyone who doesn't go along with it is just "missing the point"
You in the modern era don't HAVE the point.
Eh, they've been rebooting this trash since at least the 90s. Remember that there was a little rascals movie that came out then.
Is it even possible for this era to have its own sense of humor?
The guy has to put his wife in every damn movie he makes.
Maybe she is a Jada Pinkett wife behind the scenes ;-)

I know when i watch it I'll change my screen settings to black and white.

What else was it but a goofy comedy?
I'm quite a bit younger than RZ, but I get the satire. My mom and grandparents watched reruns of this and the Addams Family for most of my childhood. I'm sure there's a difference between having lived it and having an understanding of it (as I've learned with my kids trying to grasp the 90s culture) but I think it's possible to understand it well enough to do it justice. Of course, that doesn't mean RZ actually got it. I'm just saying, it's possible to have seen it later and still get it and appreciate it.
I honestly think that Daniel Roebuck was an excellent choice for Grandpa
I agree. He could pull the voice of Al Lewis, which helped a lot.
I'm a new subscriber to your Channel ❤️. Thanks for sharing. Big Fan of the original MUNSTERS ❤️ from my youth . 52 now
An interesting bit of trivia: The Munsters and The Addams Family started in the same week on two different networks and were both canceled in the same week two years later.
"It was your standard 60s family sitcom where the family just so happened to be monsters."
I feel pretty certain that this is why any reboot of The Munsters is most likely doomed to fail.
Seems to be working well for What We Do In The Shadows
Mockingbird Lane with Jerry O'Connell a decade ago didn't even get past the pilot.
I hate to agree with you, but I think you're right. I think a decent person to take a stab at it would be Gendy and Adam Sandler. Their hotel Transylvania series I think worked pretty well.
Finally! Someone who shares my thoughts exactly!
The best thing I can say about the trailer for Rob Zombie's The Munsters is that it looks better in black and white.
I saw the trailer for it in black and white and it at least somewhat captures the same spirit of the original series. In color, it looks and feels like a fan film made by Spirit Halloween for TUBI, free.
But it has no sense of humour and a lame plot
Great editing bro juxtaposing the old vs new. The studio's subdivision line-up speaks volumes.
The Metal Community stands with Mr. Zombie in his quest for the ultimate Metal victory of Metal.
It's a very tricky thing. It need to feel like an homage but doing a flat-out impression would be disastrous
Lux Interiors would have been a great Herman.
Agreed.
I saw Rob Zombie live in like 98' it was his first tour after leaving White Zombie. All I can say is never underestimate how bad Rob can be...
I miss white zombie :(
I saw them around that time with Fear Factory, first tour after Hellbilly Deluxe, it was fine, remember Sherri at that time was just a go go dancer he used in the concert set background...

Joe Johnston also makes painfully bland movies. His clear gift was special effects rather than storytelling.
I can't wait to see this, looks awesome
Can’t wait to see it. should be happy somebody made it.
It looks more like a 90's music video mixed with the budget and skill of an 80's public access show. Sometimes it looks like they didn't have a sound engineer on set.
Thank you, you addresses everything I thought was off, when the trailer dropped. It really felt like a direct to video/streaming film.
I was awaiting this exact video and you did not disappoint sir.

@@bruh-gn5kc Granted even the original Halloween ii makes you wonder what were they thinking
I’ll take Rob Zombie’s Halloween movies over the new Halloween films. At least they had a coherent artistic vision.
I could not agree more, with this video. You put my thoughts and feelings, towards this trailer, in to perfect words. Another great video.
I wish I had as much confidence in the US Economy, as Rob Zombie has in Sheri Moon's acting ability.
I loved it and I watched a LOT of the munsters growing up.
The "the problems" where not addressed....it is exactly what the trailer show.
@@rosyclown Fair, but they are doing the prequel, clearly, since it's about them meeting and getting married.
I honestly didn't mind it, they need to pull back on the over saturation of colour, but aside from that, I'm looking forward to it!
Dude, your channel blew up. Congratz 👍
Sepia.
The teaser was pretty good. The full trailer… not so much. I want to give the benefit of the doubt that the trailer was just bad and isn’t a reflection of the film itself and that the film is pretty good. But, we’ll have to wait and see. Keep up the great work man. Have a great weekend!
Expecting a faithful Munsters movie from Rob Zombie would be like expecting a G rated movie from Axel Braun...
It's Rob Zombie so the potential for awfulness is infinite.
Great video! Good insight on what made the original work, and great use of clips 🤣
Its gonna be bad. But because I like a few Rob Zombie movies and I love the Munsters I'm going to watch. I don't expect much though.
Exactly same as you lol
I felt the same way... And to set this before Eddie and Marilyn takes away alot of the classic family dynamic.
They both show up at the end of the film to set up the sequel.
Love the original show.
I'm really glad that Rob didn't Zombiefy it and litter it with adult humour and violence.
👹💀👹
This. When I first heard he was doing this I thought, great, can't wait to see the Munsters as poor trailer trash that use the f-bomb like a comma. Of course, I also thought his wife would be playing Lily, and wow, look at that... lol
I honestly can’t wait to see Rob Zombie’s version.
I’m super excited for this movie ngl
I like the Munsters well enough, but my favorite modern stab at it was the Bryan Fuller Mockingbird Lane. I REALLY liked what they were doing with it, taking it more “realistic” and less campy while not fully abandoning the camp (how can you with Eddie Izzard as Grampa?). Not only am I saddened the pilot wasn’t picked up for series, there’s no easy legal way to acquire the pilot for personal rewatching.
Tubi has it.
@@kyrauniversal aw, thank you very much! I’ll check it out! UPDATE: doesn’t seem available on Tubi or Peacock for me but I’ll keep searching. Thanks anyway!
@@SAPProd Yeah, sorry. I literally saw another one of the comments saying that another Munsters Pilot was for free but I don't know which it was referring to.
I thought Mockingbird Lane was brilliant. I was so excited for it to be picked up and so disappointed when it wasn't.
that show has nothing to do with the munsters other than borrow the same names, you can't make the munsters 'realistic' you may as well just make a new show altogether, it was worse than the intro to the munsters today,
I guess it might be good if you have never seen or heard of The Munsters. The source material was already a parody of horror and 60's culture.
My theory is that it's supposed to be black and white, but the studio said no. (The same thing happened with Frank Darabont's The Mist)
When it comes out, watch it a second time in black and white.
I won't be watching it a first time.
With Rob Zombie making it are you that surprised?
White Zombie is the best thing Rob has ever been a part of. It's been all downhill from there. **sigh**
And that was a success because of Beavis and Butt-Head. At this point I wish they would've left Winger alone (they were good musicians, BTW) and goofed on Zombie instead.
I 1000% agree with the white zombie assessment. La Sexercisto was a classic album.
The original Munster cut ins are absolutely killing me 😂😂😂😂😂😂
It looks like A Great Show......I`m looking forward to watching it.
