I lost several center caps on the front when running SOLO II. I'm of the opinion that the heat from the brakes causes them to shrink. I started gluing them in with silicone. They still shrink but the glue holds them.

    • @farmtruck9885

Heat causes things to expand/grow not shrink.

@@farmtruck9885 Agreed. But plastics can end up smaller after a heat cycle and that's exactly what happened here.

Craig, I said this already several times, and I say it again, you 5.0 Fox is a Diamond in da flesh! I owned a detail shop, have detailed 6 figure cars, wet sanded old cars and made them shine better than when they left the plant where they were build… you’re spot on, what I like is, you use every guy stuff! And HF stuff is good and produces decent results! One last thing, you can be DARN PROUD of yourself and you Fox Body! I’m a smidge envy. Well I own a Black ATS Coupe and let me tell you, nothing beats the shine of a deep Black paint job! Keep rocking

In my experience in polishing paint, especially black, a rotary polisher works better to polish out sand scratches and it creates more friction and heat to work the compound on the paint the brinf back the gloss, then do the polish/glaze work with a d/a buffer.

Nice vid man. I will give you some pointers for next time that helped me in my earlier days. Black is hard to shoot just the color and i think you did a good job considering. Wet the floor next time you paint it will stop dust and shit from going on the project. I would at least drain the water out of the compressor the day b4 and have at least 2 filters one at the gun and one at the tank. Spend the money and buy a good clear coat all i use is PPG for clear. Better to have more than less. When wet sanding the finer you go the easer it buffs. When wet sanding or buffing concentrate on one square at a time mark it in your head then when that is finished move to the next. hope these tips help. Btw BAD ASS STANG

  • @bennetfox

Next time you do wet sanding outside turn your water hose on to where it just barely trickles and keep your panels wet that way. Fantastic job on your paint and buffing!

When I first started to go to cruises and shows and the like I did this same thing to my truck (also black) and it took the paint from a 5 to a 10. Nice that I still had pretty much factory paint to work with from a thickness standpoint. Time consuming as hell but worth it.
From there I ended up going full on show truck now haha.

Car is looking good. I have same car basically. 92 lx 5.0 hatch, black on black.
I had it painted through insurance years ago and they screwed it up by not using elastomeric (flexible paint for plastic) on the plastic bumpers. First time I got a stone chip up front 6 inches of paint flaked off! After that you could literally spray chunks off with a power washer. Ruined it they did.
You are better off doing it yourself at least you know what you have. Never let an insurance conpany within 15 miles of your classic car!
    Cheers.
