I love displaying them like this! Just get pretty thick dowels and you'll be fine. they will sag if they aren't heavy enough to hold the weight. Enjoy!

How wonderful!! I love hanging textiles and this way really is the easiest way to do it. If it's a full sized quilt, you might want to consider a wooden closet pole for the support part. I'm planning to try that out for myself in the near future.

Yeah, GRAVITY. Great for displaying wall quilts. Not so great for the face and, erm shall we say, chest regions. LOL!!!!!!! Yeah, I thought making the sleeve is a royal pain, too. And I'm not submitting anything to a state fair or a show, so it doesn't matter. This is to display in a home setting so the presentation is not limited to show requirements. I hope you try it out!

I wouldn't put up something heavy like this. It's for smaller projects like wall quilts that we love making then struggle to figure out how to display them. The title says it's to display wall quilts, not bed quilts. There are videos for hanging larger projects.
9:27 I have a question regarding placing the nails and the rod. Are you hammering the nails into the wall and then laying the dowel rod over top of the nails? If so, what keeps the rod from rolling off the nails? Thanks for the video. I'm looking forward to using this method. Also, do the curtain clips come in smaller sizes for smaller wall hangings?
Yes, I'm hammering long, heavy duty nails into the wall. The dowel lays on top of the portion of the nails still sticking out. If you hammer at a slight angle down, or gently tap the nail end from underneath to tip it up slightly, it will form an angle to better hold the dowel. I have made several setups to hang up the wall quilts I love to make and nothing has budged. This might be different if you live in an earthquake zone, but I don't get those here. I do believe the curtain hangers are in different sizes, but I like these because I use them for several projects. I hope that helps!

Having had clothes hangers with clips that leave a mark in waistbands, I have to ask - are your curtain clips not a particularly sharp and tight kind? I'm guessing not because of the care you're obviously taking with your wonderful creations, and the fact you're placing the clips in the seam. I think I might give this a try if I find something similar locally to test out. Again, lovely work and enjoyed your video.
I'm glad it was something you enjoyed! Well the clips are pretty strong so it leaves small marks. But if I launder the pieces or iron them, the marks mostly come out. I don't make anything to be archival, so I'm not fussy about a lot of things that is considered standard in the quilting community. I've seen too many people online cutting up antique quilts they picked up for $2 in a thrift store to believe any of my items will be saved after I'm gone. I'm not trying to be snarky or harsh, so please don't take it that way. 🤗 I sew and quilt because I enjoy it and I use my items. I share some of my discoveries and projects here on youtube to encourage others to give it a whirl. So if you are concerned about the marks it may not be the right thing for you, but it works great for casual purposes. I would not hang something that I planned to enter into a show like this, but I don't enter shows, so it works for me. I hope that helps! You may want to sew a sleeve on the backside and slip the dowel through the sleeve to avoid marks.

Because I don't know what that entails, I can understand why you reiterate it. I simply enjoy displaying things I've made at home for my own viewing pleasure, but admittedly I probably pay more attention to detail than need be. ☺ That said, detail about where the wonderful things we all make will end up someday is something I try not to think about! 😉 So in the meantime, I'll consider all the different options for display, and I wish you happy creating!
The one in my bedroom is old dry wall and I have another one in my back room thats been up for a couple of years with no issues. I would not try to hang a huge bed quilt like this, but small projects like this hang fine. Use the biggest nails in the picture kit. But if you are concerned, try using dry wall anchors. Hope that helps!
It would have been helpful if you had shown a clear close up of the technique for hanging the quilt at the begining of the video so we would know if that was what we were looking for.

No Home Depot where I live. I live in the birthplace of Menards, which you may not have where you live. They look almost like Home Depot so I’m sure I can find a dowel there.

You have an advantage that your wall is wood. Those of us that need to hang a heavy project need a better anchoring method
