What's always fascinated me, is that you hear music like this often on TV and in films etc, in the background, but you never see it written in sheet music, because it's just probably the creation of the pianist in the moment, and as a classical pianist, I've always struggled to fathom how this is done. Now that I'm going back to the 'bones' of things and learning to understand chord progressions better, videos like this are like gold to me. It's not technically difficult to play them, but you have to have your mind in the right place to understand these rhythms and fills if they're not familiar to you. Thank you so much.
Absolutely Carol! The aim of this channel is to help people break away from sheet music and to learn to play with freedom, flow and creativity. And most importantly - have fun! So glad you're enjoying the videos!
Like loads watching this, I've long been haunting UA-cam looking for videos to help me (a jazz guitarist) teach myself keys. Most of them are useful, though aimed at different levels, but I have to tell you Adam, that for some reason you hit the spot exactly - practical, straightforward and helpful with just the right amount of theory. As it happens, I - now - know a reasonable amount of basic theory and can apply it to what you show us. Keep it up. Might even unlock my wallet and invest in your course.
I really got pulled into this great groove when I realized... It all goes back to Heart & Soul with the I-VI-IV-V. Loved it. Thank you very much. Super fun to play.
You have some fantastic tips and i love it when you get into it and keep going deeper than what you have planned because that's what I donto. Please keep posting your videos they ar3 fantastic
Thanks Adam, this video is so great! It helps me know more how to play western style now. You explain it very clearly. 😊 As we always sing contemporary Christian songs cover from English ones at Church, this is so inspiring for me who is from Hong Kong, learning much from your channel. 😊
Another great lesson, thanks a lot Adam. I have an Elvis playlist on Spotify and these are used all the time in so many great songs of his. This is also a great step to improv, those fills are little improv runs that can be varied. So much in this lesson!! :))
Once again a wonderful video. I love it very much and I really feel my skills growing with every single of your lessons. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge with us, Adam!
Fantastic lesson. Great that plays throngs now have count in. I think it would be good to exposing voicing choice especially when going down to the C shape ( I think I would have naturally gone to the closer one ) but can hear on playing that it’s probably too close to,the fill part thanks again
Hey Adam, I am familiar with this 2-3-1 motif as it appears in songs like Billy Joel's "Piano Man" or "Night Moves" by Bob Seger and even "Wish you were Here" by Pink Floyd but the way you string it together descending from the 2 then same pattern on the 5 then again on the 2 in lower octave all over the same chord fills up a lot of sonic space, takes you slightly away from tonic but resolves nicely at end.
Am so glad I have found your channel - your clear step by step teaching techniques are off the scale 🔥🔥 and are making such a difference to my playing! While other channels simply show us how to play a song - you also teach us how to incorporate new tricks into the playing of that song.
So I love your presentation your speaking voice knowledge and your playing so smoothly. However one small request. When you play your chords could you mention the inversions of right hand chords frequently? It took me so long to understand the most commonly played chords do NOT have the root on the bottom. It would promote exceptional breakthroughs for intermediate hopefuls like me. Thanks!
Hi Tristan - yeah absolutely, the end of the bar is a great place to put it, particularly as it can help to link to the next chord. But to be honest, you can use it anywhere!
Hi Adam, great lesson but I really struggle with this fill. Correct me if I’m wrong but at 2:01 you present that in this split triad you play notes at G chord - second, third second and root, but at 2:10 when you really present how this should be played you play - second, third, root, second and root again. Or I’m wrong?

Nice voice ❤
Wow!
Thank you for the great lesson. I have one questions. How do you make the backing tracks? What program do you use?
Hi - I make all the tracks from scratch using Logic, by sequencing the drums and bass and then adding various samples etc.
So I love your presentation your speaking voice knowledge and your playing so smoothly. However one small request. When you play your chords could you mention the inversions of right hand chords frequently? It took me so long to understand the most commonly played chords do NOT have the root on the bottom. I forgot to say thank you CHEERS
Thanks Jonathon - good idea. Will certainly keep that in mind!
@@thekeyscoach You don't need to review basic concepts like chord inversions.
Adam, or anyone else that sees this, when would you recommend playing this fill? During the last bar so like 1:2:3:fill then next chord?
Hi Tristan - yeah absolutely, the end of the bar is a great place to put it, particularly as it can help to link to the next chord. But to be honest, you can use it anywhere!
My first time with you. Loved the video
Thanks Nancy!

Hi Sir I've been trying to download and it's not coming in
Email adam@thekeyscoach.com and we’ll send it over directly
you are out of sync
Ah interesting - any specific points in the video where you really noticed it?
@@thekeyscoach yes, in the beginning, when you explain, your lips are out of sinc
Thanks!
Great lesson. Thanks!
