Thank you. Over a decade of owning BMW's, and countless forum posts, videos, Reddit questions, etc. and it still has never been simply explained to the point that I understood, until now. It's incredibly simple. How/why everyone explains it with such vaguery and confusion is beyond me. Maybe they themselves don't truly understand it. Thank you
@iamduskboutique you can turn it off, but just be aware that there are no nannies... Nothing will save you but skill. DSC on allows you to have some fun - you can spin the wheels, get the ass out, etc., but it will add brake if the angle gets too high or the wheels spin too long and the car isn't hooking. It'll straighten you out. But with DSC off, it's all you. Perfect for long rippers, perfect for donuts, perfect for unhindered launches and everything else, but if you're looking for safety in the rain, DSC off is not where you want to be. The safest place to be is comfort or sport (not sport+) with everything on. It's absolutely no fun though...
A bit late to the party but excellently explained and more importantly demonstrated. Just what I wanted to show the differences in system intervention between the different levels of traction control.
Bro ive had my 2021 m550 since February and never really understood what DSC was lmfaoo after watching this video I literally smiled 🤣 hopping in my car as I type!
So I was driving my kid to school it was raining and while driving this light came on and it stated dynamic traction control was engaged. Is this normal? It’s so confusing because the light shows the word off but also the car states that dynamic traction control is engaged.
Combination of sensors balancing out actual vs requested inputs, as you lower the threshold that it uses to keep you on a safer line. All in all it takes into account things like wheel speed, steering angle, yaw, throttle position, engine output, drive mode, all to make the driving characteristics tailored to your chosen drive mode.
I'm interested in getting the series 1 128ti, so watching these vids can help me know more about the car. The M cars, does this one fall underneath this one or the M cars?
@@solidfuel0 M Differential is a move to a mechanical limited slip differential that will add mechanical to electronic rear differential control, making your handling and power delivery even more engaging.
Would have been nice to demonstrate with a stand still hill climb and filming from behind to see wich wheel spin and now(if its rwd) i found that deactivating dsc and keeping traction control works best
I find out that using sport traction mode actually eliminates jerky brake at the stop. (2022 g01 20i) Do you recommend keeping this mode on during regular city driving? I don’t floor gas pedal or intense cornering.
@@BMWofFW maybe mine is 20i with regular brake? The final jerky stop brake is actually a common issue here in Taiwan forum. Nonetheless, super appreciate for this video as it give me more confidence in driving in traction mode. 🙏
Great video! For cars with xdrive (i.e. my G42 m240) is it okay to drive in traction mode on a daily basis? Would it negatively effect the drivetrain? Thanks!
so you have a version of M traction but it's not the same setup as say an X5M, BMWs official line is that all M cars (including the likes of the M50i) are M cars, but as they don't have the full M engineering behind it for chassis, engine and tuning they're more of an M lite car. With that said... your Sport Plus driving mode along with S shifting will give you the most M you can be (including launch control, traction tuning such as M vectoring and all the glorious M sounds!)

so our dsc should be on in the rain?

Awesome video! I’ve searched for this exact explanation but this is the first good one I’ve found. Thank you!
I've never understood these settings until now, thank you for posting this!
Great video. Perfectly explained and demonstrated.
Awesome vid thanks. The forum definitions were head spinning
Great video. The hands on demonis greatly appreciated
Your info vids are amazing and super helpful! Thank you!!
Great video. Really demonstrates the differences in the various traction modes.
Thanks!

Thanks for making this video! I'd be curious to see how they differ on a turn at an intersection (with no one around, obviously)!
I’ll see what i can do to make that video happen ;)
1:26 I'm looking for that screen in the gauge cluster in my e46 but I can't find it, what am I doing wrong?😂
Good explanation, enjoyed the video
Yes, enjoyed that and really explained everything thanks.
What is the recommended setup to use in snow and ice road? Traction mode on?
traction mode is definitely helpful if you're in more than 3 inches of snow, a little wheel slip will help for sure.
I turned DSC and car feels so much smoother and quicker off the line. Even at 60+MPH the car pulls better. I gotta be careful though.
Yeah power definitely cuts off the line in Sport mode with traction on
So I was driving my kid to school it was raining and while driving this light came on and it stated dynamic traction control was engaged. Is this normal? It’s so confusing because the light shows the word off but also the car states that dynamic traction control is engaged.
@@love.wildly.live.fearlessly they only have one light hahah it was just letting you know it’s actively engaging at that moment
Was wondering how it works technically? Thks

This traction is throughout ALL bmws… slightly different tuning for M cars.. their “traction” is MDM mode
Great video! Quick question, a car like m550xi would you recommend traction or dsc off for better launches? Thanks!
traction for sure.
for best launches check out my launch control video!
@@BMWofFW that's what I thought! Thank you :)
Great Video!! How would you turn it off for a 2004 528? When I click the DSC button off it still stays on..thx
Press and hold the DSC button for 5-10 seconds.
What is M differential then? I have it as addon

@BMWofFW I don't get it. So how electronic does it? By applying brakes?
Thanks for the video. Which engine does the car have?
This one in the video is the 330i, B46 putting out 255hp/295lb-ft through BMW’s awd system
Can a 240hp drift like yours but 2.0L B48 engine

wonderful idea!... Unfortunately we don't have a hill steep enough to demonstrate that around us. Otherwise DEFINITELY would a show that.
Great video!

I’ve driven it in all situations it doesn’t interfere unless you’re reckless… I did end up driving it with dsc off with next to no issues as well

perfectly fine! you'd just have to hit the button every time is all since it won't default in traction mode.

Which is the best way to drive it ?
Every way 😂
lol yes, but for example i like the car to be steady and just drive it normal it should stay on(traction)
How much hp this car has

Both, this particular one is awd
Good job explaining it bro
