The reason the throttle goes back to comfort mode in DTC or DSC off mode is that DTC/DSC is considered "true" sport mode, whereas Sport mode is sorta just like "lets make this fun but not really for real track use". The difference is linear vs hyperbolic throttle response. Linear throttle response gives you more fine control of the throttle at the track, which is exactly what you need. The throttle response curve in relation to how far you press the throttle is consistent and predictable, whereas a hyperbolic response curve is not optimal for real track use as at certain points of the curve you can press the throttle only a little but get a much larger amount of gas, but at the lower end of the curve the same pressing force gets you a lot less, so you can imagine an actual sports driver would want to always know exactly how much gas he is gunna get for how much he moves the throttle especially coming out of corners, regardless of whether he is at the bottom of the curve or the top of the curve. So you can see BMW did this for a reason.
@@PrimeWhips good question, not too sure - if you're starting from a stop I'd definitely do sport+, maybe a roll too... Honestly probably depends on your car. In mine I would probably use sport+
This maybe true for a full M car however DSC off on an M lite without LSD it’s not. In this situation Sport + gives you far more control. I have no idea why BMW even entertained selling a 365hp RWD car without an LSD. So in this situation actually DSC off is not the best experience for a track it’s sports +. The most annoying thing is with sports + the BMW performance exhaust I have is fully open and sounds great however with DSC off it’s not, it reverts to comfort setting. Also I don’t like the light steering on comfort/DSC off so why can’t you chose how you have it.
@@Pain4yourmindexhaust off so you can hear the engine on the track. DSC fully off turns on the electrionic diff on m lite cars. Throttle is linear for full track control. Steering is tightest for track.
Great video Tim. The way you explain the modes, is perfect, and is the reason why I have driven RWD cars for the past 20 years. I want to have FUN driving, and I don't get that from the many AWD hot hatches I have test driven. Yes they are fast, but boring, and anyone can nail the throttle and be fast, but in a RWD car, you have to balance everything, and get the car moving around, it's what driving is all about for me. If you know, you know. Maybe it's cheaper for BMW to have the preset driving modes instead of custom ones, maybe it's a safety thing and they had to do it for regulations, I don't know.
You’d only ruin it if you’re driving in dsc off like an idiot. Other than that it gives a better connection to the car in knowing its limits and let’s you have full control
Totally agree, it’s annoying you can’t have a configurable mode one the M2 LCI, plus it’s also confusing why you can’t setup the variable modes with different settings etc...
Usually run sport, think it's the best all round. Comfort is a little too soft on the throttle response but it saves on trips to the pump and pissing the neighbours off with the burbles 😬 agree on sport+, rarely use it, its unpredictable sometimes. DSC for a bit of fun or on the track but don't run it daily 😂
For over 4 months I was wondering why my 320whp tune 330i was so slow off the line in light-moderate accerlation. It turned out to be DSC the traction nanny. I turned it off and it felt like im getting +20 whp more off the line.
I know this is a 4 month old video but the salesman told me, if you have an accident and you are I'm sports plus or you have traction off etc, your insurance will not cover you as they can look it up. Did you know that?
Long press of traction button till I get DSC off for pure fun! Or sport if I want to go for a proper hoon without worry of rear end stepping out. Sport+ is pure thumbs down lol
Totally agree, just makes me feel sad because I would like to have DSC off and still have throttle response and steering like I have in sport mode but as soon as DSC goes off everything becomes soft ( like in comfort) as you mentioned :(
a 16 min vid by the main man Tim,this is a treat bruh. Now,i know a lot of mlite owners can relate with your frustration for their not being indvidual configuration settings. It is enfuriating to say the least.More time i'm in comfort traction as the steering is lighter, shifts are lightening quick and the throttle isn't as sharp as sports plus.I personally find comfort traction better than sport mode as there is no hesitancy in throttle response and the rear is much more playful.i'm hoping that, that company you mentioned towards the end will and can sort out the configuration settings
Sounds like a love & hate relationship Tim like a marriage hahaha..... I get what your saying its finding what your happy with. I drive mine most of the time in sport I tend to drive in comfort if the mother in-law is in the car apart from the other day she nearly cried her eyes out lol. so for my n55 when i’m doing runs should i do dsc off ? because i did once and i lost to that car and re ran it in sport plus and put 2 cars on it

EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR!!🔥🔥love how you take the time to explain everything in detail 🙏🏼🌅💕
Open door, sit in car, turn car on, hold DSC off... and go. Everytime 👍

DSC off for daily drive is crazy. Not worth to save few buck on breaks if you could ruin the whole car.

I think there’s a guy who adapt the steering and diff settings in the modes... 👀

So in conclusion... DSC off everywhere 🚀🚀

Never believe a car salesman 😂😂
That’s false, why would they have modes that’s you basically saying we can’t use…
Man said "it's not the real laavily" 🤣👌🏽 sick vid
Thanks man 🙏🏽
too much explanation, please do a 1 minute summary :)
Off topic Tim have you tried a 0-60mph on draggy without launch control
Just booting it in d sport plus
Cheers
Will do soon! Will need to get a base figure 🙏🏽
I’ve had my M2 OG for over a year and still not driven it DSC off 😬
Gotta be done 😆
So to clarify press sport and that’s it? Or do you long press the traction button? I have manual M2

but comfort throttle response is more linear and predictable, on sports u push the pedal like 60% and its already flooring it

Is DSC off safe for a normal drive in a 520d F11 Xdrive

Thanks Mark!
I want sport plus with full traction off how can i do it
Can’t be done mate
It would be dangerous. If nannies are off you need linear throttle
Is it more powerfull with dsc off ?
Jes im going on shop and take it off for having fun of drift
Sport+ does

Does driving in DSC result in rapid rear tyre wear?
Reduces rear brake pad wear due to traction control not interfering.
