Great job Kieth , looks good, a little tip is some times you can swell a scratch up after you remove the finish by going over the scratch with a thin Cotton cloth and a ordinary clothes iron just put a few drops of water in the scratch or dent, wet the cloth and spread it over the area of the scratch and lightly go over it with the clothes iron set in a higher setting just don’t leave it on one area to long or you could lift the veneer, it great to see how lots of times this will swell the dent and minimize the amount of sanding you need to do. I’m really enjoying your videos it’s fun to learn how things are done in the UK as opposed to Canada. I’m semi retired now but for 35 years I had a small furniture repair Co. And did repairs for stores and moving companies, it was great fun and I met lots of interesting people . Take care,
In America and I searched up repairing veneer and what was it to begin with. Google brought you up first with this video. The satisfaction and excitement this brought me!!! Absolutely beautiful work, I can’t wait to start collecting more tools that I need for my massive projects. I have a Waterfall Buffett that has been in my family over 50 yrs and then a massive leaf drop wood table to patch and restore!!!
I found him after watching literally over 100 videos😮 Im restoring my daughter’s childhood dresser and I chipped through the top veneer🤦♀️ I’m SO excited (but terrified) to try Keith’s technique🤭🥹
SMH - who were the 46 people who gave this a thumbs down and in God's name why? This is one of the better done videos on UA-cam. Learned a lot! Subscribed.
I’m about to undertake a restoration of a 1930’s waterfall china cabinet and this video is helping me maintain my sanity and my brass balls. Thank you!
That veneer looks sooooo good!!! wow! Really good job, your client must be really happy with the cabinet. The way the hinges work on the top are also really cool. I love projects like this
This was a great video. Just got a 1958 Phillips tv which the cabinet need a bit of work. This gives me a great starting point to my first cabinet resto. 👍🏻😎
Best stripper I've found/used that's available in UK (IMHO) is Polycell Maximum Strength Paint Stripper. Old-school stinky (NOT a VOC product). Comes as a fairly thick paste (so doesn't run off vertical surfaces) in a tub. Have stripped two dining room tables, a set of six dining chairs and an ESA compass-leg table with ease. Just do it outdoors - the fumes are INSANE. Keep up the good work!
I restored an Art-Deco mini-bar much like that one, veneered in burled English walnut. My repairs were much more extensive, stripping back spray paint and then re-application of the veneer on curved sides. It took forever as I could only work on it a few hours a week. Ultimately my customer was very pleased. You did a great job on your restoration, though your choice in top-coat was interesting. A stripper that I have had great success with (including refinishing a complete cherry paneled room) is Soy Gel. It is a non-toxic, water clean-up, soy based stripper with very long working time. It will remove every finish that I know of. A word if caution, do not let and get on the bottom or your shoes and get tracked onto your hardwood floors as it will eat through the finish (a lesson learned at a high cost).
Only thanks to RnB Brown do I know you can put acrylic lacquer over an oil finish, I can’t believe you had the guts to try that the first time round but thank goodness you did!
You did an awesome thank you so much for sharing your great works of talents and arts with us this was absolutely beautiful when you are finished with it have a great day and God bless you
I brought home an Art Deco Bar and set out to find a video on how to refinish veneer. I stumbled on this video and it’s a bar that looks a lot like what I got!! Anyhow….I’m trying to get up the courage to do it. Also, there are large pieces of veneer on a side of it that will need cut and trim…repair….GULP!!!
You are the Restoration King! A great job Keith - the before and after shots are very impressive. Nice to see new life breathed into an old piece of furniture!
@@RagnBoneBrown Thomas is fantastic I watch him in awe. Do you watch John's furniture repairs? She is also amazing I do not do any woodwork (bad hands) but always wanted to so watch yourself and others to get my fix second hand 😁
What a great video. We have an old cabinet from grandma which has small damages on the veneer too. I wasn't confident to try to repair it myself but to have it professional restored is way to expensive. I think I'm going to order some scrapers and try it myself. Thanks for sharing!
Interesting that you mention Citristrip... have had zero luck on it with _anything_ . Gallons of it I need to get rid of. That came out absolutely magnificent, and reminds me I need to get one of those carbide scrapers.
Now that’s come out really well, I’ve never tackled anything like this but feel inspired so might give it a go. And never used a card scraper either, I’ve lead a sheltered life lol 😂. Great video and thanks for sharing 👍
I'm from the UK and about half way through restoring a bookshelf to use as a drinks cabinet (first restoration project) and used Bartoline tx10 paint and varnish stripper which did a pretty good job of getting rid of some thick old varnish.
Beautiful result! What a pleasure to see wonderful pieces like this come back to life. Never thought about using a sharpie for those little dings in furniture. On my list!
I was so terrified when my cat scratched my 1940s radio. You did such a good job with that I am confident it can be repaired. Thank you so much you really made my day
aha! relevant too, my wifey has a 1920's pedal powered sewing machine with some damaged veneer on the table. Now I can see how it's done. Ta very much.
After trying 20 or more videos I found yours. That´s what I was looking for. A real professional... and you saved the spiders. Good boy.

It is like you through away the old cocktail cabinet and you bought a new one . The restoration is fantastic !!!!!!!!!!!

Keith another success story well turned out and another life for the cabinet
On my international travels I ran into Bubbles at Heathrow International airport. Lovely lady and cheers kido.
Wow that grain on the veneer makes this a very trippy piece! Very beautiful work.
You made my day at 2:29 -thumbs up for that keen question on YT.
Thank you for not killing the spiders. I always catch and release.
If they stay away from me, they live, if not, they die
Intense scraping! Watching this after a long week of work makes my fingers feel raw & more sore.
It*s much more beautiful now! LooKs very rich in contrast! Beautiful eye and ability to achieve such art!
6:50 & 9:27 are GREAT tips. Thanks. Very helpful.
You must have the strongest arms. That was a James Bond piece of furniture - so lovely.
That turned out really nice, the veneer looks so much better after you refinished it.

Stumbled on this video and subscribed after you kindly guided the spiders to safety. You're awesome.
I think you earned your money on this one, but you were rewarded with a beautiful end product, well done.
really great work, and a lovely bit of furniture - the recall of the wood grain when you put on white spirit was orgasmic
Stumbled across this. Loved it.
this is now my favourite Rag 'n' Bone video :-) The end-result is truly astonishing. well done
Beautiful! I like the thought of using the sharpie to fix small points. Thank you.
Wow!! Amazing. Can’t wait to work on my MCM night stands.
Fantastic job, enjoyable! Even the detail of let the spider alive!
What a lovely grain this piece has. You did a great job refurbishing this Beaty. Well done.
That is beautiful! What a fantastic job you & friend did!
So great to see a master at work!

thanks Michael, I'll check that out 👍
My goodness, your videos are so good. You are super talented.
Great veneer match. The wood grain on that piece is awesome, you did a great job showing it off.

Nice one Keith, lovely finish, well handed spiders too !
That is a GORGEOUS cabinet! Fantastic restoration, thanks for sharing.
Very well done! Thank You...
Love that you let the spiders be.
This was very therapeutic 😌 looks amazing! I'm now wondering how much better all my vintage furniture would look if I knew what to do with it!
Excellent work and glad you took us through the steps
Brilliant instructor on basic projects.
I loved your video, you are a master.
Great Fixes and Great finish. Well done Keith
Lovely work. The result is quite something.
Wonderful job. Glad your client is happy.
Awesome video and you included the links to the tools, really appreaciate it.
Excellent result.
Nice work Keith
Fantastic transformation, thank you for sharing xxx
That turned out beautiful!
You took a worn out piece of furniture, that a lot of people would toss in the scrap heap, and transformed it into a beautiful showpiece! Well done!
Thank you!
Such a gorgeous piece! Nice work

Really, that's interesting. Have you seen Dashner restoration channel? He uses it all the time and seems to work for him. Thank you!
@@RagnBoneBrown Have seen it work magic for people on YT. It just lays there and makes a mess for me. Ended up sanding like mad instead.
Citristrip changed their formula. It’s complete poo now. You need methylene chloride.
Now that’s come out really well, I’ve never tackled anything like this but feel inspired so might give it a go. And never used a card scraper either, I’ve lead a sheltered life lol 😂. Great video and thanks for sharing 👍
Very nice work and well worth saving.

Wow, it came up beautifully.
Great job on a beautiful little cabinet
Unbelievable transformation. Awesome work!
lol @ 2:30 - naughty! Good video Keith - thanks!
Nice Job Keith, remember we having something very similar but bigger in fifties or early sixties in our front room, my mothers pride and joy !!!
My Mum always used to say, "If you want to live and thrive, let a Spider run alive". Oh great job by the way.
Polycell maximum strength paint stripper . Worked well for me on a veneer table top . (From Ireland)
Fantastic job
