But I ensure you, it will come back ✨ A great week ahead and a great time to you as well. Raphael
Oh, completely forgot about the keycaps 😇 In terms of switches, I was using browns for the longest time. But recently switched (oh, the pun) to linears. I am about to built a Mode Designs Sonnet with Gateron Oil Kings. Really looking forward to it! In terms of Keycaps I really like those tall SA ones. Have not tried Xda yet. What Xda set are you using at the moment? Other then that I quite like the standard cherry profile too. I have a friend who also has a lekker keyboard. Those switches are very nice feeling too. Though I like the sound of standard mechanical switches more. Maybe I am just accustomed to it though. Overall I find it a very interesting topic! Love that we share the interest in this topic as well!
thank you for remembering that haha, and yeah the Sonnet looks really cool 🙌I've been eyeing it alongside the worklouder keyboards, the only barrier is the import tax in turkey, I'm an expat and last year I bought my wooting 60HE and me not knowing the import rules ended up costing me around 800 euros in fees and lawyers so i'm good for a few years to come for now, i know this is weird but it's functional, i have a mix of keycaps factory OEM and XDA, basically i got a cheap Solidee set to get me by until i get a the Mito Canvas set from Drop (matches the thocky sound), however the cheap set proved to be unreliable when typing and the caps wobble a lot so now I have a Frankenstein of a layout because I need my WASD and modifiers to feel a certain way for gaming purposes 😂 i like how the MT3 and SA look but i never got my hands on them except when i was 5 or 6, i might try them in the future, when i do I'll let you know🌟 @@SilverwingVFX
Thank you for your nice response! Oh wow. I did not know that it´s so hard to import stuff into turkey? 800 Euros... wow. That came to be a very expensive keyboard! What was the cause of such high cost? Usually I am used to paying 90 to 150 Euro in Import Tax in Germany. Though I did not have to do that that often to be honest. I was mostly just reading forums, watching UA-cam Videos etc. about those topics. Not participating in those uncertain and expensive group buys. It´s only recently that my 10 year old Cherry Brown Corsair Keyboard became somewhat unreliable that I finally made the plunge and spend a lot of money for the Sonnet as well as a addon numpad (because I can´t do 3D without a numpad) About your keyboard. Hey, if it works it works. Its not something set in stone and you can slowly optimize it by trying stuff out. That´s a good strategy in my opinion. About Work Louder. I like the style of those keyboards. Though I am a bit old school and prefer full height against low profile. But I think they are on the rise and will be acceptable to a new generation of keyboard lovers in the future I think. P.s. actually have a 3D colleague that I know working on a collab product with Work louder called "Knob". You might have heard of it. It can be a really expensive hobby though. Especially if you are going for the high end pieces. Everything costs a lot there. Keyboard, switches, keycaps and then also the things around it. Shipping, import tax / customs. In the end it costs way more then you set out to pay ha ha ha. I have the Suswatari MT3 keycap set from Drop and use it for my office keyboard. I had to get used to the typing feel first, but now I really like it! Fun having someone to talk to about those topics. Maybe I should setup an alternative UA-cam channel ha ha ha. Cheers and a great week to you!
haha of course, man it's an interesting topic, especially since it's something I interact with daily so it needs to be comfortable i used to have the hyperX elite the old one, not the new one that has a numpad and everything, after five years i kinda got bored and liked the size of the 60HE while i was hesitant because there's no numpad nor media keys but in a matter of 2 weeks i felt like home and got used to no having a numpad even though it was my main method of entering numbers everywhere, now it's been a year and i think if i really needed more keys i can get an additional numpad and other macro boards but so far it really works for me so that's a happy ending to the story below 😂 the reason why it cost me so much is that my order was originally 160 euros for the keyboard and 20 for wrist rest (say that fast) but because it was above the limit of importing personal items which is 150 euros (I was under the impression it was 1500 euros) but changed 2 months before I made my purchase, they treated it as an industrial grade item or business class thing which is rediculous because it's a keyboard, so the shipping company people linked me to a broker (because idk what a broker means and I don't really speak turkish) which had really bad customer service and asked me for a power of attorney paper (all of this is foreign to me) so I did that and cost around 200$ equivalent and then I sent it to them and they delayed the processing and blocked my number for a few days because I was calling daily after a week of silence and they sent me an invoice with around 550$ equivalent, and i asked my attorney like no i don't want this anymore and he was like sadly now we can't go back because this and that i got really pissed and payed up and after another week i finally received it, it's a family heirloom at this point 😂😂 anything below 150$ is has 20% tax i think anything above 150 is just hell, that's what i learned I think I saw a trailer for the knob on twitter, probably I'm mistaken it for the creator board, but it sounds exciting I love the design language similar to Teenage Engineering but more raw i agree with you on the low profile thing I've been them but i'm afraid they won't thock like normal keyboards when luped and all, and yes it can be very expensive hobby, like audio stuff haha but that's a totally different beast of a hobby the keycaps you have look delicious, i'd love a high quality all black XDA set, can't find any you're is the next best thing color theme wise indeed it is fun talking about this stuff, and maybe you should, share the link on twitter and I'll be there man haha great week to you too, cheers! @@SilverwingVFX
3:11 maybe it's SHIFT+ALT+DRA'N'DROP Blender says "Hold ALT to keep transformations". Me personally using this set of combinations: to parent anything to something - is SHIFT+ALT+DRAG'N'DROP [in the outliner] to unparent something - is ALT+P (keep transformation) [in the 3D viewport] this set of commands never messes up my objects positions) Not really sure what does "Keep Transforms Without Inverse" 🤔
Hey there and thank you for your feedback! I have read the tooltip where blender says hold ALT. But I did not get it to work. For me there is no difference with or without ALT. Basically what I am searching for is that the Object get´s the right coordinates within the null. If the Object sits at 0 and the null sits at X 100, Y 0, Z 0 and I parent it, I would expect its coordinates to be shown as X -100, Y 0, Z 0. Right now, if I use the outliner the coordinates of the object do not change. It´s still shown to be 0. Maybe I am doing something wrong though...
Hey and sorry I only seen this comment just now. The face angles let me select neighboring faces depending on the angle. Basically this is nice if you have a model with an even part that then falls off to the sides and you are interested to select only the polys of the even part. So you select one poly on there and then go for the "Face Angles" command and it will select all the other connected faces that are below a certain angle threshold you can set.
Based on these two tutorials, what percentage of time do you think you'll spend in Blender? With C4D having a cost, as well as Octane, the looks here seem to be that Blender and Cycles can do the same thing for free?
Hey hey and thank you very much for your comment! I will answer this question regarding tutorials and regarding my work: Tutorials: I will try to keep it 50/50. I have planned to do Blender Octane as well. Where so even Octane C4D artists have some advantages watching the video as Blender users have been watching and learning from my C4D videos. Note that most things about 3D apps is actually universal. So if you see me modeling a Keycap in Blender, you probably can follow in C4D or even Maya (if you know the right tools and shortcuts) Working: I will be working more in C4D probably because this is the network I have been in for years now. And Jobs / Requests coming in this channel mostly (for now) I guess this will change over time as the word spreads I started Blender and therefore more jobs will come this way too. What is your view on that. What would be the optimal ratio for you?

Thank you both for your comments. Really appreciated. Yeah. Diving into Blender and trying out Octane. I really missed a channel that had topic based tutorials just like I did in C4D. It´s very well possible that I am just overlooking one. But in general I think there is just a lot more knowledge out there for C4D in terms of Octane. The good thing is that I have good connections to Otoy, so I can ask the responsible people if I do not understand something or point out Bugs or e.g. UI flaws. Cheers and to many great Blender Octane tutorials ahead!

@@SilverwingVFX what we really need - is some kind of textures preview in the node editor like in c4d. The preview in the node wrangler addon does not work in the last versions (at least for me), and procedural texturing without it is a hit and miss process. The only way is to connect textures to albedo manually, and it's very inconvenient. If it can be implemented in native Octane addon - I think we need it as soon as possible )
Hello Sir❤. In Zbursh there is an option to create a circular mask. but in Blender in the Sculpt tool there are only squares with straight lines if I remember correctly. Is there a way to make a round mask using a blender? Thank you very much.

@@CharlesLijt Hey there and thank you very much for your comment and your question. In my first video of the series I go through that I reset my key bindings to establish an Alt navigation in Blender while trying to keep the standard key binds in tact. While this worked with most of them, it did not with the Alt loop-cut, so I had to improvise there and took inspiration how it works in C4D. This is the reason I have a slight different layout. Might also be that I have "Merge By Distance" on my own shortcut. I do not remember if Blender has it even mapped. If you are interested in that layout, you can find the key map in the description of the video! I also mention it at the interface section at 4:20 of the video 😇
@@SilverwingVFX wow thank you for the clarification! Yeah I double checked there isn’t a shortcut that do Merge by distance by default, we normally use “M” and click the drop down menu to do that. Also yeah I think you have double click as shortcut to select edge loop can be done for vanilla blender by simply enabling “emulate middle mouse button by alt click” smth like that in the preference menu haha. But this option will disable me to use Ring select shortcut AKA Ctrl+Alt+LMB, I m getting used to Alt+LMB to edge loop select and Ctrl+Alt+LMB to ring select (like in C4D) in blender now.
@@CharlesLijt Thank you very much for your answer and for looking up the vanilla setup! I guess M for Merge is also a good key. D for me was for Distance 😇 I should have stated how to find "merge by distance" in the menu!

personally, I don't mind longer videos as they always contain interesting side tangents and nuggets that make things click for me, and the holy chart time is at the pinnacle of that, always great watching your videos
Thanks Raph, wish you a great week ahead ⌨🌟
Thank you very much and thank you for✨⌨️✨
Super nice to hear that the video was enriching for you and you learned some things!
Also thank you very much for your feedback regarding video length!
Ha ha. Yeah. I did not do Chart-Time in a longer time now. I guess its because I dove a lot into process heavy stuff that does not need to much explanation with charts.
But I ensure you, it will come back ✨
A great week ahead and a great time to you as well.

Oh, completely forgot about the keycaps 😇
In terms of switches, I was using browns for the longest time.
Love that we share the interest in this topic as well!
thank you for remembering that haha, and yeah the Sonnet looks really cool 🙌I've been eyeing it alongside the worklouder keyboards, the only barrier is the import tax in turkey, I'm an expat and last year I bought my wooting 60HE and me not knowing the import rules ended up costing me around 800 euros in fees and lawyers so i'm good for a few years to come
for now, i know this is weird but it's functional, i have a mix of keycaps factory OEM and XDA, basically i got a cheap Solidee set to get me by until i get a the Mito Canvas set from Drop (matches the thocky sound), however the cheap set proved to be unreliable when typing and the caps wobble a lot so now I have a Frankenstein of a layout because I need my WASD and modifiers to feel a certain way for gaming purposes 😂
i like how the MT3 and SA look but i never got my hands on them except when i was 5 or 6, i might try them in the future, when i do I'll let you know🌟 @@SilverwingVFX
It´s only recently that my 10 year old Cherry Brown Corsair Keyboard became somewhat unreliable that I finally made the plunge and spend a lot of money for the Sonnet as well as a addon numpad (because I can´t do 3D without a numpad)
About your keyboard.
Cheers and a great week to you!
haha of course, man it's an interesting topic, especially since it's something I interact with daily so it needs to be comfortable i used to have the hyperX elite the old one, not the new one that has a numpad and everything, after five years i kinda got bored and liked the size of the 60HE while i was hesitant because there's no numpad nor media keys but in a matter of 2 weeks i felt like home and got used to no having a numpad even though it was my main method of entering numbers everywhere, now it's been a year and i think if i really needed more keys i can get an additional numpad and other macro boards but so far it really works for me so that's a happy ending to the story below 😂
the reason why it cost me so much is that my order was originally 160 euros for the keyboard and 20 for wrist rest (say that fast) but because it was above the limit of importing personal items which is 150 euros (I was under the impression it was 1500 euros) but changed 2 months before I made my purchase, they treated it as an industrial grade item or business class thing which is rediculous because it's a keyboard, so the shipping company people linked me to a broker (because idk what a broker means and I don't really speak turkish) which had really bad customer service and asked me for a power of attorney paper (all of this is foreign to me) so I did that and cost around 200$ equivalent and then I sent it to them and they delayed the processing and blocked my number for a few days because I was calling daily after a week of silence and they sent me an invoice with around 550$ equivalent, and i asked my attorney like no i don't want this anymore and he was like sadly now we can't go back because this and that i got really pissed and payed up and after another week i finally received it, it's a family heirloom at this point 😂😂
anything below 150$ is has 20% tax i think anything above 150 is just hell, that's what i learned
I think I saw a trailer for the knob on twitter, probably I'm mistaken it for the creator board, but it sounds exciting I love the design language similar to Teenage Engineering but more raw
i agree with you on the low profile thing I've been them but i'm afraid they won't thock like normal keyboards when luped and all, and yes it can be very expensive hobby, like audio stuff haha but that's a totally different beast of a hobby
the keycaps you have look delicious, i'd love a high quality all black XDA set, can't find any you're is the next best thing color theme wise
indeed it is fun talking about this stuff, and maybe you should, share the link on twitter and I'll be there man haha
great week to you too, cheers!
@@SilverwingVFX
thank you!
You are very welcome. Also thank you 🙌
3:11 maybe it's SHIFT+ALT+DRA'N'DROP
Blender says "Hold ALT to keep transformations".
Me personally using this set of combinations:
to parent anything to something - is SHIFT+ALT+DRAG'N'DROP [in the outliner]
to unparent something - is ALT+P (keep transformation) [in the 3D viewport]
this set of commands never messes up my objects positions)
Not really sure what does "Keep Transforms Without Inverse" 🤔
Hey there and thank you for your feedback!
I have read the tooltip where blender says hold ALT. But I did not get it to work. For me there is no difference with or without ALT.
Basically what I am searching for is that the Object get´s the right coordinates within the null. If the Object sits at 0 and the null sits at X 100, Y 0, Z 0 and I parent it, I would expect its coordinates to be shown as X -100, Y 0, Z 0. Right now, if I use the outliner the coordinates of the object do not change. It´s still shown to be 0.
Maybe I am doing something wrong though...
@@SilverwingVFX oooo, I see what are you trying to achieve. Unfortunately I can't find the way to implement it. Hope you will find it once))
What is that "Face Angles" shortcut in your Quick Favorites?
Hey and sorry I only seen this comment just now.
The face angles let me select neighboring faces depending on the angle.
Basically this is nice if you have a model with an even part that then falls off to the sides and you are interested to select only the polys of the even part. So you select one poly on there and then go for the "Face Angles" command and it will select all the other connected faces that are below a certain angle threshold you can set.
Love your smile
Oh, thank you very much. Appreciate that compliment.
I hope you have a good weekend and an overall great time!
Based on these two tutorials, what percentage of time do you think you'll spend in Blender? With C4D having a cost, as well as Octane, the looks here seem to be that Blender and Cycles can do the same thing for free?
Hey hey and thank you very much for your comment!
I will answer this question regarding tutorials and regarding my work:
Tutorials: I will try to keep it 50/50. I have planned to do Blender Octane as well. Where so even Octane C4D artists have some advantages watching the video as Blender users have been watching and learning from my C4D videos. Note that most things about 3D apps is actually universal. So if you see me modeling a Keycap in Blender, you probably can follow in C4D or even Maya (if you know the right tools and shortcuts)
Working: I will be working more in C4D probably because this is the network I have been in for years now. And Jobs / Requests coming in this channel mostly (for now) I guess this will change over time as the word spreads I started Blender and therefore more jobs will come this way too.
What is your view on that. What would be the optimal ratio for you?
Hi, thank you for those tutortials!! Im using blender 4.1 and it seems ur "alt nav" config doesn't work as well anymore. the alt RMB shortcut gets in the way of the default loop selection shortcut. Did u update urs already?
Thank you very much. I have set the loop selection to double click. It's a compromise for sure. But I am able to work rather nicely this way 😇
@@SilverwingVFX thank you for the follow up! i managed to put down some of my own shortcuts for it already after going through blenders massive settings menu^^ its great to see you look at every single one of ur comments though :) have fun at fmx!
Of course. I always try to answer the comments. I think it's a bit of my responsibility to do so! At least as long as the numbers are manageable 😇
Thank you. I am definitely having my fun here at FMX ☺️
Funny thing. I landen on your channel several monthes ago, as I've started using Octane for Blender. And on the very next day, after I was arguing, that all good octane Artist on UA-cam use Octane with C4D, but noone uses Blender, you've posted your first Blender tutorial. Keep going!
There are a few good Blender Octane tutors on UA-cam such as Lino Grandi and Alex Pearce. But none are as commited and skilled at Octane as Silverwing.
@@TheGreatResist
I think, I've seen them both, but don't thik they are nearly equally in-depth as Silverwing or New Plastic )
@@SilverwingVFX
All the tutorials on Octane/Blender, I've found on UA-cam are very basic ones. So I think, you are indeed the first one here, who is taking it to the next level. Looking forward for the great stuff, cheers )
Hey there and thank you very much for your question.
You caught me on the wrong foot there ha ha. I am not a sculptor and I therefore do not know a lot about sculpting in general. So I have not had a look into what Blender has to offer in that regard. And therefore also have no idea if this is possible. Though It must be. Can´t believe that you are not able to create round masks. Sounds like a very essential thing to me!
Sorry for not being able to help out here 😇 Hope someone else may be able to help you here in the comments maybe?
Hi Man! Thank you so much for this! Could you please tell me 19:17 how did you select the edge loop using Double Clicks? I have to Alt+LMB to select the edge loops but you seems didnt touched Alt key at all! Thank man in advanced
Also I think you set Ctrl+D for merging double vertex yourself right? It is not from Blender default keybind I think?
D for me was for Distance 😇
I should have stated how to find "merge by distance" in the menu!
@@SilverwingVFX haha love ur vids as always! truly learnt a lot from u!

Hello, I want this additional (set dimension), can I get it?
I have linked it in the video description. You can download and install it from there.
Let me know if it worked!
Hello again. Just watched your video. How did you add a shortcut on the Set Dimension Addon. It could be set be right-clicking the command but Assign shortcut don't appear. but other commands it shows up? I can't even see it on the Key Map commands. Not sure why. Sorry I'm still new
Hey there and thank you very much for your comment.
Yeah, the disadvantage here is that you can´t just right click set the shortcut in the menu.
I had to go into the preferences and set it in 3D viewport shortcuts there.
Would be nice to have that right click option with this plugin... but at least there is a workaround!
Hello @@SilverwingVFX thanks for the reply. I tried going to the Preferences but oddly enough searching for Set Dimensions can't be located too. hmm. I'm using the latest Blender 4.
@@strangeapprentice Thank you for your reply. For me the plugin is listed under "mesh_tools_addon.set_dimensions"
Maybe you have some luck getting the shortcut for it working this way.
@@SilverwingVFX Sadly I can't seem to find it. Maybe it's me. I'm new to Blender maybe I got something wrong along the way. Anyway I just make it as a Quicktool which is fine too. :) Thank you for your time answering questions. I really appreciate it. Please do make more Blender tutorials. :)

Ok lets make sure everything else is set before. Once you have installed the plugin / addon, do you see it in the menu. Have you tried accessing it there. Mesh. Transform. Set Dimensions. If you can access it there, you also should be able to get it through the shortcuts!
Where do you try to set the shortcut to?
I have added it to 3D View and there to 3D View Global...

No worries. I will keep up both.
I will keep making C4D Octane as well Blender videos!

Wait.. before I watch it. Does that really take 40 minutes to create that object?
In the Video I take 40 minutes. But if you follow me you will probably pause and rewind a lot so you might take longer. Same as me recording the video.
@@SilverwingVFX That's crazy. I saved it and I will watch it but the object seems so simple so before watching I can't imagine that it takes so long :o
@@adrianfels2985 Oh ha ha, I was under the impression you were questioning the other way around.
There are definitely ways to model it in a lot shorter amounts of time. But this is a tutorial about Subdivision Surface modeling. Which, when done right, is an artform within itself.
And offers a lot of advantages (but also disadvantages as e.g. the long creation time) in production later on.
P.s. if you are skeptical and have better things to do with your time, then just skip it 🙌
@@SilverwingVFX No, no I don't wanna seem sceptical. I saved the video for later and will follow your instructions. I'm just impressed of how long it takes!
