Great video! So tired of installing exterior tanks on Epson printers, love my new ET-2800. You did not mention how to reset the waste ink counter .. or did I miss something? Oh and I love this version (no voice). Though I've never seen any of your other versions. This is simple enough to just watch and enjoy my own music (you were on mute before I even knew you had music playing lol).
Thanks for the input. Videos on resetting are also available separately in the channel but yes realised after uploading that resetting needed a specific highlight.
I read that the printer error messages are displayed even after replacing the ink pads. Is it possible that you also need a reset tool? Otherwise, very good video, thank you very much!
Yes. The waste counter does still need to be reset. We have an entire playlist of videos, on this channel, that show how to do that on the various different operating systems (Windows, MacOS, etc…)
If those pads were actually at pad life end, there's a lot of room left for more waste ink. Also if that's what all ET series pads look like, I would just wash them out, let them dry, and replace in the printer.
Yes, this video is a bit misleading as I forgot to provide better context. The printer used to demo the process was suffering from other faults and the pads had minimal waste in them. I hadn't really thought about adding more ink to better represent what you get when the "pads need replacing" error appears but in the future it makes sense to at least provide better context to avoid confusion. Your point stands though... if the pads has this level of remaining capacity I'm not sure we'd change them out.
That’s covered in a few of our other video’s. We created this playlist as there’s different operating system quirks and tips: ua-cam.com/play/PLfYhJgWvstULaWUXhdSrS8zTJObosmsvQ.html
I’m curious if you had to rest the print counter? I had an older Epson X411 I believe. I did the ink pad swap and the printer still read that the ink tray was full. I had to download some firmware to the printer and roll back the print counter. Did you experience the same thing?
You do have to reset the waste ink counter. We have videos for how to do this using WICReset on different computer operating systems on this channel if you do a quick search.
Thank you for your reply. Also I purchased a key from ink chip and the download does not seem to recognize my printer so I can copy and paste the key. I am connected to usb and tried on different computers. Would you know why this is happening and what to do?? Do I need to use the key or just change the ink pads?? Thanks in advance. 😊
Ah. Inkchip has a different app called “WIC” which is not the same as the “WICReset” app. You need the app from the inkchip site to reset your printer. If the WIC app isn’t recognising your app you might want to request a refund and purchase a WICReset key instead. And yes changing the pads on their own isn’t enough. You do need to reset the waste counter as well to clear the error
I have a 4700 epson printer that I made a sub printer. I bought a replacement sponge pack for this printer. looks like the same process. I have not used it yet. I see there are reset keys you can use too. so not sure when I should use the reset key or finally just replace the ink pack kit. Can you suggest?
Had to check this properly and assuming you mean the ET-4700 (not the WF Pro-4700) then the process is effectively the same as the one shown in this video, and uses the same pads and reset key as well. To clarify on the way you tackle waste ink though. The pads are needed to deal with the physical waste ink while the reset app (and key) reset the waste ink counter which clears the waste pad error. Short version, you should do both.
I bought this printer a week ago here in Australia. Only printed about 10 pages with it; The Ink and Paper LIghts are switching on indicating the inkpad to be replaced according to the manual. I would expect it to last 60 weeks at least not one week; I just checked the Inkpad.. yeah, theres a dark blur and it looks like it spreads to 70 percent of the pad.
That is super weird. Maybe you got a faulty printer. I've had mine for 9 months, printed 1000+ pages and mine just now displayed a message that mine was nearing the end of life. I just performed a power cleaning before I got the message. It really surprised me, I've never seen that on a printer before.
The OPs issue was related to power cleaning on a daily basis so that explained the rapid rise to hit the waste counter limit. And that power clean you just did will have pushed your counter up quite a bit too. I’d recommend using the WICReset app to monitor the waste counter from here on out to see how much different activities/functions increment the counter.
When or why do these need to be changed? I have new pads to put in but unsure if i should change them. I have some excess black that sometimes prints out on my pages
This is a useful primer on waste ink: ua-cam.com/video/mdHMoh1pGJ0/v-deo.html As for the spotting and scuffing you’re describing, that’s likely caused by a build up of ink on the underside of the printhead. That can be caused by clogging in the waste system. Overpressure (or overfilling) in the tanks that result in ink being forced into the capping/resting station.
There are a number of videos for the WICReset app on this channel. They are separate as there are different computer operating systems. Easiest way to find them is to either check the playlists or search this channel for “WICReset”
Thanks for the feedback. There is actually a step by step version with voiceover available here: ua-cam.com/video/xMmfuhv7MXM/v-deo.html I'd be interested to know which you think is better.
You can use the WICReset app/utility. There's a number of videos that deal with how to use the app for Windows and MacOS on this channel. You can find more information here too: www.octoink.co.uk/goreset
Best plan is to understand the problem properly. Install the WICReset app and run it. Then click the “Read waste counter” button. If any counter is over 100% that’s the main problem. If however none are over 100% close the window and then click the “Report” button to get most recent error report.
The WICReset apps are covered in multiple videos for different operating systems. Search the channel using keyword “WICReset” to find them for your OS.
Tampons can work but it’s important to remember that they will swell. If you aren’t careful the swollen tampons can push material into the exposed cogs and workings (on some models) or make if difficulty to access/remove the pad holder. So it’s worth testing some tampons in the holder with water first to avoid those sorts of problems.
the annoying music with synthetic sounds that were meant to sound like human voice. thank god no longer popular but at the time every commercial video had them
So that's a -neg on the music choice. Fair enough and duly noted. To be fair I'd assumed we'd get some pushback on music choices given how subjective they are but we're keeping an eye out for different tracks we could use that don't drive viewers away.

WHERE CAN I PURCHASE THE PRINTER POTTY KIT FOR ET2800? I CAN'T FIND IT ON YOUR SITE. THANK YOU.
You can find the pads+key bundle via this link:

Can you msg us via the support email. I’d like to get some more details as that is really unusual..

There's NO Chips to reset On it? I have ET-2820
Correct… The ET-2820 uses the internal waste ink counter, not a chip. So you need to reset that using something like the WICReset app’.
