I'm gonna be a bit blunt. Sometimes it takes more than just "getting work done", It can take medication, or a good therapist, or adressing certain stress factors, etc. In my case at some point I was hanging with the wrong crowd and had to cut ties with people who were making my life hell, and at an other point I simply didn't know I had a neurological condition that significantly affects how I navigate through daily life and I recently had to restructure my entire life arount that. No amount of productivity advice can fix these types of issues.

do not know what happended but it is less intense i think mediating, having good sleep, less social media especially Tik tok, learning to be more masculine (if u are men,) eating less carbs and sugar and more protein can help u with focus and exercising as well, also u can go on fast for like 12-16 hours, the other that i think might help is to build self confidence and self-esteem , focus on improving yourself rather than focusing on the past, also do not blame yourself for being like that rn and do not think u deserve it, i was there months ago ,today world is frying our brains with all the social media and teaching men to be feminine and etc but u can go through it we can go through it and we must stay disciplined for that person so we have to go through the pain and discomfort there is no other way around but know you will feel a lot better after a only a few months and doing the good habits will feel normal not requiring that discipline compare to the begging that does not mean not to step out of comfort zone afterwards, u must always do that

"Take everything you find fun out of your life so that work is the ONLY thing you enjoy" is a horrifying message. please have fun and do the things you enjoy. you need time to relax and do the things you love. See your friends, play video games, watch TV shows - do what makes you happy, don't reduce your life to "the grind"

    • @mose3775
      @mose3775 8 місяців тому +31

I was thinking the same thing. It’s a lovely idea on paper, “If you take out the overstimulating things, suddenly boring stuff becomes interesting.” But if work becomes the highlight of your day each day, then what are you living for? More work?
I completely understand and support getting rid of some of the outliers, like scrolling on TikTok or Twitter, but at a certain point, you’ve removed all of the joys of life. If work has to be the most stimulating thing in your day, then what about reading? Going on walks? Spending time with friends? I find those much more stimulating than work sometimes, so I guess I’m not allowed to do those?
That was a bit of an extreme. I think it comes down to finding a balance. Extremes are usually not the best options because the world doesn’t work in extremes. You certainly shouldn’t spend 10+ hours overstimulating yourself with video games or scrolling, but you also shouldn’t cut everything fun out of your life. Unfortunately, you have to work to find a balance; cut out the outliers and limit the amount of time you can spend on the highly-stimulating stuff.
Whoops I didn’t mean to rant like that.

    • @moose3493
      @moose3493 7 місяців тому +13

Exactly, at first I thought the advice was going to be “remove all other stimulus from your room/office while you work for a few hours” which is great advice, not give up all your hobbies and friends. I work to live and to be able to have a decent life, for some pocket change for bus fare for hanging out with my friends, and to buy fun things. Why would I want to have NOTHING in my life but work?

@@lymphomasurvive I think you missed our point. The guy in the video definitely has different priorities, and he found a system that works for him. We’re not saying that fun is our only goal in life. At least, it’s not for me. What I’m saying is that it’s important is to try and find a healthy balance between work and fun that works for you, rather than removing fun entirely.

There was probably some miscommunication. I have seen this dude play with his cat, spend time with his grandma and go for runs(For some people that may be torture but it's enjoyable if the place you are running in is beautiful just like walking. So I think the point is to minimize stuff that is overstimulating to the very minimum like UA-cam shorts to 2-3 vids a day and use more productive things as entertainment instead like when you are bored or tired of maths you can read for your English assignment (That is genuinely entertaining, how do you think people entertained themselves 200 years ago). You are bored and tired from lifting, you can go play basketball. And to totally remove all distractions when working, like for 3 hours you just code and do nothing else. The dose decides the poison.

I feel you there. I’m a freshman in college but my sophomore year of high school feels like it was just a few weeks ago. One of the key takeaways I got from high school (and am still failing to apply lol) is to not overload yourself. Definitely do what’s important for your goal, but also do some kind of fun elective or extracurricular. If you don’t have a goal yet, that’s fine. Nobody in high school should be expected to know exactly what they want to do in life. Hell, I’m still not sure, although I have a basic idea.
What I’m trying to say is don’t sign up for more than you can handle just to look good to some university. I tried doing marching band and Boy Scouts and a bunch of AP classes and it nearly killed me my junior and senior years. Have fun, don’t stress more than you have to, and believe in yourself. You got this. 👍

I think that the biggest example of this is one of my favorite quotes: comparison is the thief of joy. This applies to this concept too because if you didn't have that subconscious comparison of which activity will make me happy and more stimulated between x thing I want to do and x thing I need to do. If you remove the distraction of the thing that you want to do you will end up wanting to do the thing you need to do simply because you have truly nothing better to do, and not only will it make you more productive, but happier, because you will be happy while doing things that you need to do, making you less stressed, removing baggage from your shoulders and expanding your knowledge, which, whether you like it or not, makes you sleep better at night.

Basically, give up everything that brings you joy in order for the uncomfortable tasks become palatable. Sounds like something an 80 year old man full of life regrets on his deathbed would be telling me to NOT do.

It’s more like: Give up the things that are cheap mindless dopamine hits (endless tiktok scrolling) in order to make actually rewarding work (studying, getting good at a skill, getting strong, etc.) exciting again.
I bet you that 80 year old man on the deathbed would not regret not scrolling and seeing two more memes, but will regret not taking care of his health or improving himself.

What i learned from this video
1.Overstimulation makes work feels like work. If you change your life around that work, the work becomes the only fun thing to do.
2.Make work or studying or working out the most stimulating thing so that you can do it for longer woth sharper focus.
Side note, I appreciate how these videos are only a few minutes long so that we can last the whole video without jumping off (My attentoon span has gone completely)and it gives me info in very less time when so many other youtubers take half an hour to give advice and tips.

Really great explanation, but I also would like to add ways to implement this into your life, and other great tips that helped me
    What's really helped me is,
Setting a phone timer. Last year I was on my phone for 8 hours a day, now I am down to 1. You can't just go from 8 to 1. I gradually decreased my time. Like go for 2 months on 6 then to 4 then 2 then to 1.
Having a tdl, a job, plans outside of the house, and goals.
And also having a daily routine.
Stay realistic and go easy on yourself, Rome wasn't built in a day .

Damn bro, like i get the concept and its actually true that we gravitate towards the most stimulating thing and ill definetly use that to my advantage in the future, but when you said that work is the most stimulating thing in your day that shit sounded so fucking dystopian. Like imagining that work would be the most exciting thing about my day is a horror

I am a med student and have to study long hours so I use pomodoro but that requires a high level of discipline. Initially I used to scroll thru during my break time and istg I don't even remember the the times I forgot that I was on a break . I've switched it up now, Now I meditate for those 5 mins and I get back to work ASAP cuz meditation bores me

    Well-written message.
Eliminate whatever that’s pulling you away from focusing on the obstacles you need to overcome.
Would work out if my mind didn’t constantly reiterate how bleak life can be when just limiting everything else however.
I feel like this is substantially subjective but as long as you have a suitable environment, it should work for anyone I believe. It’s just difficult to get used to at the start.

I have mad hdhd so I even get bored playing video games. For me if I don't go back and forth between a few things weither work or play I physically can not enjoy or concentrate on either. Its unfortunate when I can't enjoy a fun thing but its very beneficial to get my work done. This is an excellent video, and this method is very compelling and thought out. But if you have adhd I would recommend what I do. Great stuff Ruff, keep it up!

This really is great advice, and I am sure it will be effective. My only concern, is some of the "stimulaitng" stuff is to me necessary for an enjoyable life. For example a lot of my friendships are made and kept up through gaming and chatting together online. Also, if I was able to cut myself off from social media entirely, while it would improve my productivity, I would lose touch with memes and other pop culture things so I would not be able to connect with my friends as well.

    • @PeregrineChurch

You can still do the fun things, just save them for the end of the day. When I wake up, my brain is bored and can see anything as fun, so I make sure to order the things I need to do during the day in order least fun to most fun. Games and UA-cam go at the end of the day. If I do them mid-day, it's so hard to go back to work after!

Wow, did not expect this video to be as fruitful as it is. It's what I've subconsciously been doing, but this is such a good reinforcer/reminder/confirmation that this actually works. (Moved from highly over-stimulating NYC to Dallas suburbs, simplified my room, got rid of distractions, etc.) Still working on it, but I'm going to try and commit further to this. Thank you.
*Also no this is not AI generated. I don't even know how people can tell these days. (Again, because I"m focusing my energies on my work, I'm not meandering into looking into and researching AI since it's not pertinent for me atm.) Thanks!
