  • Replacing the rear blend actuator motor in a Dodge Grand Caravan. Blend actuators have plastic gears that wear out and break eventually. This ends up causing a loud clicking noise until they fail completely. Accessing the rear blend actuator requires the removal of some trim pieces. There are a few layers of trim pieces before getting to the blend motors and all of the rear HVAC components in the Dodge Grand Caravan.

    These are fun on the front of a kenworth t680. In involves removing the entire dash. prying squeezing the blend door into the hvac unit. Fun lol

    Did you have any lights blinking or not turning on in the ac panel?

    Thanks for the tutorial video... quick question, are the 2 actuators, top and bottom are the same?

    • @HardwayLearning

      They should all be the same if I recall correctly

    How exactly do you remove the plug from the actuator? I was afraid of breaking those little red clips, so I've left it alone until I figure it out.

      Man sorry we missed that in the video. I can't remember, but if the red section moves you would pull up on that then press down to release a latch to then pull the connector off the actuator, but I can't tell if the red section moves. Otherwise you press the latch and pull the connector off

    Do you happen to know if the ticking noise could drain the battery overnight?

    • @HardwayLearning
      @HardwayLearning  Рік тому

      My friend never had issues, I'm assuming they are moving and adjusting when you turn off the car, but you only notice it once they fail and make the ticking noise. Does it continue to tick well after you've walked away and locked the car?

      @@HardwayLearning when I am sitting in the car , the car is off for five minutes.

      Our mechanic said that it can. We had a parasitic draw and it was due to the HVAC blend actuators. If they keep turning on overnight, and if more than one are bad, then it can drain the battery overnight.

    Will it make the ac not come out cold if its failing?

      @HardwayLearning  2 місяці тому +1

      Yes, this can cause it to be stuck on fully hot or fully cold

    What was the brand that you did replace first time? Was it Dorman or was it other noname brand? I am thinking to go with Dorman as it's 25$ vs original part is 80$...

      @@HardwayLearning do you by chance know what is the purpose of two actuators in there at the back? What exactly each doing? As I just recently (yesterday) figured out myself why at the front each side has 2 actuators, I am just guessing, but trying to find more info, why there are two actuators at the back as well. Here is my video of the front passenger side with explanations...: ua-cam.com/video/bQQGGMv67T4/v-deo.html

      One for recirculate/fresh air the other for blending hot/cold? Otherwise there could also be one for head vs feet?

    Guess what went wrong on the van AGAIN?!?! Had to watch my own video for reference! Followed my own advice and got 4 Chrysler branded ones from the junkyard, they're now $11!! Beats $75 new though, and beats doing it ....(checks notes)...FOUR TIMES. DON'T BUY ANYTHING BUT THE CHRYSLER ONES!!!

      @@HardwayLearning No, first time using Chrysler blend doors as a replacement. The ones I got at the junkyard all have mfg dates of 2007 and 2008 🤣 Pretty sad when a 16 year old part is replacing a 1.5 year old part.

    Unbelievable that Dodge makes it so hard to get to a part that is JUNK, it is a common issue on these and Dodge Ram, Jeep, Chrysler. Take half the van apart to get to it.. what nonsense!
