More than ten years in the making, the feature documentary THE ANIMAL PEOPLE, from directors Cassandra Suchan and Denis Henry Hennelly, follows the journey of six young activists who find themselves indicted as terrorists by the United States government. The reason for indictment: the activists' leadership of a controversial open protest campaign aiming to close down the largest animal testing laboratory in the world. The activists used the then fledgling internet to dramatically magnify their impact and systematically knocked down pillars of financial support for the lab. But when protests began to mushroom into dead-of-night vandalism and worse by unknown underground elements, the FBI stepped in. The Bureau began an unprecedented campaign of surveillance, creating a model that would later be used against Occupy Wall Street and Black Lives Matter. The United States Congress, under corporate pressure, rewrote laws in specific preparation for prosecution, potentially weakening free speech rights for all Americans. Featuring expansive interviews with the six activists spanning more than a decade, rare archival footage - including never-before-seen surveillance footage, wiretaps, and government documents, The Animal People is a chilling portrait of what happens when activism rattles the institutions of power.

The Australian Government have recently implemented new laws of incitement to target animal rights activists trespassing or taking footage on private property. The majority of the state governments have also implemented new laws for animal rights activists trespassing. The federal government is also trying to implement laws where it is illegal to encourage a boycott on any commercial entity. What kind of a world are we living in. We all need to become activists and fight against this oppression. Can't wait to see this film.
This insanity is a result of uncontrolled lobbyism and it's outrageous how politicians have become puppets of private companies. So what truly has to be made illegal is lobbyism in politics.

We grow up being told to stand up for what we believe in, then we teach our kids to do the same, but at some point we decide to sit and forget our values. This makes no sense to me.
This doco was phenomenal I was hurt when I watched how the animals were treated horrifying experience this was an eye opener for me Thank you to the people who saved the animals and went to jail for animal rights I am greatfull to you all

I wish this documentary great success, for the animals. May it get many more people to open their eyes and SEE the insanity and the cruelty of "animal enterprises," and who the real terrorists are.

I just watched it’s a fantastic film ! People we have to wake up and voice for this poor angels ! So many people are so selfish and psychopath sick bastards! This movie show the reality and how many monsters behind of this cruelty!
Great documentary and an inspiring movement! The one thing that irked me was the talk about evil "corporations" when it is clear that the greatest evil is the U.S. government and its agencies and so-called "justice system", without which such ongoing evil would not be possible.
This wouldn't be possible without the people the evil you speak of is what's inherent in all of us. People will ignore a lot of things if things are working out for them. Our country has become a fat entitled decadent breed of princes and princesses who most of the time do nothing more than act outraged for a brief period and then act like they've really done something. Being outraged is easy it's the compassion understanding and hard work that's difficult. I think Americans are too soft to make any lasting change.

The reason why they lost is because government (the corrupt court system and the FBI) got involved. Corporations do not have the power of violence and coercion (ie. Arrest and imprisonment in kangaroo court system) only government does. We have to somehow stop the government from propping up animal agriculture and these animal testing torture labs. Without the government most animal related industries would already be bankrupt by now

I saw this documentary and it was absolutely inspiring. At the time when this case was going on, I was only a kid. But now, looking back on it, I know without a doubt I would have been out there standing with these activists.
I was part of this movement and will always be proud I helped to try and shut down this disgusting business .

Sorry, but this documentary should be available for all people… for me had been so difficult to watch it, because is not available in my country and I can’t find it online. I'm disgusted with the law system to overlook the truth, it's all about the dollar, I mean money is important but not as the sacrifice of animal cruelty, something needs to be done, how can the authorities get this wrong.

Denis Henry Hennelly Whatever you negotiate. Every deal is different. But the point of this project is to educate the public ( hopefully) , more so than to make a profit ( ? ). So even though you need funding, hopefully you’re willing to compromise in order to get it seen. ( ? )

@@KeeKeeTheDog Yeah, it's not whatever you negotiate, it's whatever they offer. Which is very little these days. And no, the point is not to make a profit. I and others worked on this for ten years either for no money or very low pay to cover living expenses... not everyone has the luxury of being able to donate their time to worthwhile causes. And none of us are going to make any money on it ever. But it does cost money to make a film, a lot of money. And people invested that money. Trying to get them that money back so they will be inclined to do it again is pretty critical to having things like this get made. The idea that things are free and everyone should just get them is going to ultimately kill the creation of anything that isn't a superhero movie.

“Were 6 activists indicted under federal terrorism charges.” No one was charged under terrorism in this case.
Josh says “under federal terrorism laws.” And yes, the Animal Enterprise Protection Act explicitly refers to the acts it covers as terrorism. And the law was revised during this case to the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act. The film underwent extensive vetting by one of the best law firms in the country and every statement had to be backed up - they affirmed that this statement was correct legally.
@@auspiciousindustry The AEPA was always colloquially known as the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act in the same way that "Megan's Law" is used in place of "Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act." While it is true that no one had a terrorism modifier added to their sentence, the same can be said in other well known terrorism cases since September 11th. The US Attorney, the AUSA, and the FBI all referred to our actions and to our charges as terrorism related. I'm having a hard time seeing the issue here.
The government absolutely considered it a terrorism investigation and terrorism case - the prosecutors, Attorney General, and FBI all referred to this as a terrorism case that was pursued and prosecuted under terrorism laws, including AEPA, AETA and the Patriot Act.
Freedom Cages are the perfect place to exercise your First Amendment right in a less disruptive way and removed from the rest of the public.
