The fact that these matches were all so close to eachother *AND* that all of the matches had such clearly evident playstyle/skillset differences that we could see, is both amazing, and really good proof that "being a given rank" is a pretty good indication of how high you can climb with your skillset, and improving either side can help you climb higher, both are helpful, and both can get you to high ranks.

I think they missed an opportunity to show how strong being a game sense player can be. If they did 2s or 3s with different kind of players on each team, I think the smart players would have a much better showing.

And its always so much fun how they try sick shots, but YOU know how to defend them. And then you go for a smart attack and immediatly get balled on because of some nice flick or whatever. I just love these "smart" vs "mechanical" 1v1s, they offer so much! AND everyone can improve from it!
good mechanics are different in each rank, for instance, some in plat might say doing an aerial or a musty flick is good mechanics whilst we in higher ranks even players with bad mechanics can do that

I think I can beat the mechanical plat just because I think that mechanics don't matter as much since plat is on a low level and getting into peoples heads are better since you can mess them up whenever
I'm champ 2 and look like I'm playing with my feet when I try for flip resets, and this diamond mechanics player making it look like butter (except for the lack of the actual reset). Kudos!
I can attest to that. I fit into the "game sense" category with just average mechanics for Diamond2/D3 while my friend who I regularly queue up with is more mechanically gifted but has TERRIBLE game sense in 2s/3s. I'd say I win about 50-52% of my games now (basically hardstuck, neither demoting nor promoting) when solo-queuing and same could be said for my friend. But when we queue up together, we win about 65-75% of games (most of the games against other parties, not just solo-queuers who would obv have a disadvantage against us).

My honest opinion is: if you are in a match like this, due to so much pressure it depends on instincts and just knowing how to do it as the pressure will overcome everything but what you have mastered
In my experience the mechanical players never go into defense. They rush the ball whenever I try to set up a mechanical play myself and then get mad at me for walking the ball in.
I feel I'm in the middle ground of smart and mechanical, though most of my mechanics are used for defence, I play with the mindset of "if they can't score, they can't win" which only works so well when you're a plat lol
It’s most important in lower ranks to have good basic mechanics and better game sense, if you can hit easy - medium shots accurately and know what to do you win easy
I honestly expected CBell to comment about all the matches saying which is the pros and cons about being smart or mechanical, and what those who participated could have done different to win or maintain the lead in the games. I saw that most of the smart players started on the lead but as the game went they started to take more and more goals from the mechanicals.
I’m diamond one in all game modes I would love to be in one of these as a smart player. I don’t spend much time on mechanics mostly just ground plays, rotations, and positioning
As i saw someone in the rocket league community say once: "wins are temporary, clips are forever". I am more of a mechanical player because its much more satisfying to hit a cool shot than to win with lame goals.
I love how the plats show no difference in play between mechanics and game sense yet, one is mechanical and the other is sense oriented.. both players played on the ground and did nothing more mechanical than the other.
To be honest, I feel that newer players, or older players stuck in lower ranks, are more smart and mechanical because of all the smurfing happening since free-to-play. If you do a part 2, a good option would to be having a older silver/gold player, as they can learn a lot from the smurfs. Just saying, I’ve been stuck in sliver/gold since 2017 :)

I have players in Gold and Plat make those aerials and flip resets on me that the GCs and SSLs were making in this vid ALL THE TIME! Honestly, with the clips you used I see me fitting in more with the Diamonds (D1/D2 in 2s). Not necessarily saying I should be a higher rank but damn, this confirms my suspicion of 50-60% smurfs in 1s.
Leth actually has pretty cracked mechanics especially compared to arsenal if you’ve been watching their challenge videos haha. Would be a stomping in leths favor if you ask me I think turbo vs like jstn would be better. Neither main ones, and one is arguably the smartest player in the world and the other arguably the most mechanical in the world
@@CrackedZac only issue with that is they each have over 10000 hours, and I'm sure could change play style to what ever they wanted and automatically know what they're doing

As a smart player, i know i have to work on my mechanics to get masters, but I like playing with mechanical players in 2v2. I think smart players have a harder time in 1v1 generally.
This is why it goes to show that being balanced is best. Sure it takes more time and dedication, but the added flexibility of being able to adapt your playstyle so freely will allow you to win more games.
I found that you can only be better in one by so much. If your reads aren't on, you can't position to use mechanics. If you don't have good mechanics, you can't make plays or even safely position where better mechanical players can. Thus I'm not surprised that people of similar rank still perform closely. ELO has been pretty good at predicting performance after all.
Ahahahahaha, it's so funny, I'm Plat and I can double reset, celing pogo, pop from ground, pankake, air dribble, turtle to air diribles, double touches, I can do every type of flicks and I'm working on ground freestyle.
I’m plat 1 in most modes and I don’t think that’s how plats normally perform in 1v1’s so I think it’s more of a test of stress management and not skill
I thought the smarter players would've won, especially the plat players, i myself is a plat 2 and all i do is pratice the basic mechanics to better enhance my gameplay, clearly some players weren't entirely focused on their basic mechanics and wanted to learn more which is quite sad, however it was still a close fight! It was a very nice video, although i didn't like how the smarter player lost, it was a very interesting and just overall fun video to watch!
For the plat game, you have to remember the two times the mechanical player scored in a row because the smart player just went for boost. It was a close game, but that smart player really wasn't playing all that smart. And, fthat final challenge from the smart player was very bad. It would have been way smarter to rotate into the net and clear it like that. My point? The "smart" player gave up 3 goals from bad plays. The smart player really wasn't all that smart, and didn't have the solid mechanics they needed.
Wanting to learn more instead of basics mechanics isn’t sad. I started going for air dribbles and double touches in plat, and although I was garbage and couldn’t really do it in game, it helped a lot with understanding car control and physics. Now I’m champ 1 and actually can do those things in games. Just focus on whatever you enjoy, it’s a game after all.
I would also argue that the mechanical player wanted his potential by booming the ball every time he touched the ball. He misses so many chances and shots because he doesn't take his time . If his mechanics were actually good or decent, he could have scored much more. Basically, his playstyle really limits him. In conclusion, both players wasted their potential, coming from a plat 2. The smart player made really dumb decisions, and the mechanical player didn't use his mechanics well.
I'm a Plat I and I don't even know how to Air dribble ... Reached all the way just by keeping the ball in the ground.. Edit: Yes..I know the way was short but as a beginner I'm proud

Yep.. i'm c2 atm, but my rotation/speed aren't what it should be, even tho my mechanics are better then a gc. But it doesn't matter at all since i can't keep up with the skill
Going back into the game after a over 5 month break I started losing my mussel memory for some of my play level mechanics. So I focused on the smarter plays and placed Diamond 1 div 3 the day I came back to rocket league. Smarter players are definitely more likely to move up the ranks

Leth actually has pretty cracked mechanics especially compared to arsenal if you’ve been watching their challenge videos haha. Would be a stomping in leths favor if you ask me I think turbo vs like jstn would be better. Neither main ones, and one is arguably the smartest player in the world and the other arguably the most mechanical in the world

As a smart player, i know i have to work on my mechanics to get masters, but I like playing with mechanical players in 2v2. I think smart players have a harder time in 1v1 generally.

This is why it goes to show that being balanced is best. Sure it takes more time and dedication, but the added flexibility of being able to adapt your playstyle so freely will allow you to win more games.

I found that you can only be better in one by so much. If your reads aren't on, you can't position to use mechanics. If you don't have good mechanics, you can't make plays or even safely position where better mechanical players can. Thus I'm not surprised that people of similar rank still perform closely. ELO has been pretty good at predicting performance after all.

I’m plat 1 in most modes and I don’t think that’s how plats normally perform in 1v1’s so I think it’s more of a test of stress management and not skill

I thought the smarter players would've won, especially the plat players, i myself is a plat 2 and all i do is pratice the basic mechanics to better enhance my gameplay, clearly some players weren't entirely focused on their basic mechanics and wanted to learn more which is quite sad, however it was still a close fight! It was a very nice video, although i didn't like how the smarter player lost, it was a very interesting and just overall fun video to watch!
For the plat game, you have to remember the two times the mechanical player scored in a row because the smart player just went for boost. It was a close game, but that smart player really wasn't playing all that smart. And, fthat final challenge from the smart player was very bad. It would have been way smarter to rotate into the net and clear it like that.
My point? The "smart" player gave up 3 goals from bad plays. The smart player really wasn't all that smart, and didn't have the solid mechanics they needed.
Wanting to learn more instead of basics mechanics isn’t sad. I started going for air dribbles and double touches in plat, and although I was garbage and couldn’t really do it in game, it helped a lot with understanding car control and physics. Now I’m champ 1 and actually can do those things in games. Just focus on whatever you enjoy, it’s a game after all.
I would also argue that the mechanical player wanted his potential by booming the ball every time he touched the ball. He misses so many chances and shots because he doesn't take his time . If his mechanics were actually good or decent, he could have scored much more. Basically, his playstyle really limits him.
In conclusion, both players wasted their potential, coming from a plat 2. The smart player made really dumb decisions, and the mechanical player didn't use his mechanics well.

Yep.. i'm c2 atm, but my rotation/speed aren't what it should be, even tho my mechanics are better then a gc. But it doesn't matter at all since i can't keep up with the skill

Going back into the game after a over 5 month break I started losing my mussel memory for some of my play level mechanics. So I focused on the smarter plays and placed Diamond 1 div 3 the day I came back to rocket league. Smarter players are definitely more likely to move up the ranks
