It was certainly damons (Gorillaz) idea, the genre-bending insane collaborations are their signature style.
That's why it's so appealing to me cause I love a lot of genres.

Ive always interpreted "A sky made of diamonds" to be a metaphor for a impossible relationship. Something too perfect to be real.
I almost feel like the song is crafted from the view of someone who genuinely loves their partner, but sees that she has impossible expectations and unrealistic views of the world. And that the beloved is waiting patiently for their lover to come to terms with reality.
Specifically the part "The phantom is coming over the line." As Elton John leaves (although he is still singing in the background) showing that the Pink Phantom, the lover has finally come back down to earth.

I felt something similar, since my now ex broke up with me a month before this song came out...
In that case was because of some issues she had to deal with, but like 6lack sings, she made me feel like I wasn't important to her despite everything that happened between us
I feel like it’s 3 different personalities because 2d being positive,6lack seem like he’s being negative and Elton being the in between
The sky made of diamonds is about something so perfect, and something impossible, the song is basically about a failing relationship
There not on acid, the creator of Gorillaz is just very creative
Definitely Gorillaz creator Damon Albarn who came up with it, it's about a relationship breaking up, and Murdoc is the green one
LMAO Okay so, Gorillaz is a virtual band of animated characters. The green man at the end is the bass player for said band and the man with blue hair is the frontman/pianist.
