The 6lack feature felt awkward the first couple of listens but I do think it helps the track more than it hurts it after hearing it multiple times

I agree, I feel bad for him seeing people say he shouldn't be in the track, rap and mumble isn't my favorite genre, but his vocals really grew on my after a few listens.

You have to give it a bit. It’s like trying food, it may not seem right at first but try it again and you just might like it
I think a lot of people don’t enjoy 6LACKS part because of the autotune, but once you listen again knowing there’s autotune, it honestly sounds really nice and isn’t a distraction... it sounds sort of spacey which I really love. I think it’ll grow on people after a few listens if it’s thrownig them off
I think that he is representing the ghost/ phantom in the video that's why he has a heavy auto tune

First time listening the auto tune was definitely different but after listening again I could hear him melting with the voices of 2d and Elton John and it was absolute perfection! 6lack is great in this song and its cool that they’re so different but meld so well! The theme of the song is also very deep and real 👌amazing

There has been so much stellar music this year, but this is far and away my favorite song of 2020. On paper, this collaboration shouldn't hypothetically mesh so well, but every part of the song fits together perfectly, and the build-up and payoff that they deliver by the end is just jaw-dropping.
Perfection. Gorillaz with the push of a dream. 6Lack swooping in with clean hypnotic hook. Then Elton and his crew bring that british vibrato and the timeless hard lyrics, I mean the lyrics paint a classic.

actually in reality, the only permanent members of Gorillaz are Damon, the singer and the artist, Jamie and damon is missing a tooth but 2d had 2 teeth missing but I suppose he got a fake tooth. They arent really portrayed as anyone Also great reaction vid!

This is honestly one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard, people are hating on 6lack's verse, but I think it ties the whole song together, without it the song would feel incomplete.

I Believe The Canon Reason 2D Is Missing A Tooth Is Because Of The Car Accident(s) He's Been Through. Same With His Darkened Eyes.
@NJ Cheese There are two real people behind the characters, 1 music artist with a live band who has another separate band he plays with and an actual artist guy who does all the character designs, animations ect., The actual singer for 2D, is the main music portion behind gorillaz looks nothing like 2D (blue haired guy) but the point of Gorillaz is the cartoons are the band so they're their own people. In concert they use animations and holigrams while doing the songs. In the lore the guy who made the "world's best virutal band" is Murdoc, the green guy at the end. He's an asshole who sold his soul to the devil (in the backstory) to make the band. They have an MTV cribs episode if you're interested, it's fully animated and quite funny. Think of Gorillaz the same exact way as Hatsune Miku who is a cartoon AI who's music and voice come from musicians creating music on a program and she sings it, she's aware in lore that she's a virtual girl in a computer where as Gorillaz openly know they're cartoons living in the real world except with actual people not a program singing the voices . 2D is missing a tooth because of various accidents. His eyes are also pure white/black because his eyeballs got pushed back into his head from said accidents.

Actually, he is missing a front tooth but he has a golden tooth in it's place. But there's pictures of him without it. He once swallowed it by accident when it fell out.

I liked the song but I feel like the 6lack lines could have just been worded a little differently, don't get me wrong the song is still amazing. I also feel like the whole summer lights concept didn't fit much with the phantom, lyrics but idk i'm not a song writer or composer by any means

Honeslty, I agree. Nothing against 6LACK personally, but that auto tune is not doing him any favours for me. His lines didn’t flow that well for me either, just sounded...mumbly.
Exactly, plenty of their other songs combine rap with their music and it fits perfectly. Clint Eastwood is one of my favorites for this example. But this one is a no for me.

I'm really conflicted about 6LACK's part. I really don't feel mumble rap or heavy autotune (personal opinion). But I'm really impressed Gorrilaz can combine different styles and generations of music and still make a banger. I think they're trying to bring people together
the lyrics of 6LACK ist beatuiful but the problem was the autotune, after a while you star liking it, EJ´s part was beatifull, 2Ds part was very meh, but its understandable, the brightness of the song is EJ and 6LACK
