    You could've put a ledge on the bed side and another one on the shelf side to support the table top. You wouldn't need the table leg then. Similar to Chrome's table in Vancity Vanlife...just a thought.

  • @carolyndodd7532
    @carolyndodd7532 5 років тому +7

    For your table, maybe attach support (2X2) to bottom of bed (at wanted height) to support the right side; and put a support on your storage shelf (2X2? , to support the left side) ... so you won't have to deal with any legs (since it has to be removable any way, and goes across the entire space).

  • @RachelinRealLife
    @RachelinRealLife 5 років тому +1

    Ditch the RV pole and get an ADILS table leg from IKEA. They come in different colors and you can hacksaw it to the height you need. It's very forgiving, if you don't cut it straight, as it comes with an adjustable end cap. Plus, they're only $4. Cut your table in half, then add a piano hinge to connect the pieces back together (or even a recessed hinge) so it folds up, like a taco. When your laptop is on the unfolded table, it will be over top of the hinge, but shouldn't be affected b/c laptops don't sit flush anyway, for air circulation. Take the flange that comes with the ADILS table leg, line it up so that only half of it is screwed in to one side of the table halves, underneath. When you unfold the table, the table half that is not screwed in to the flange, will simply rest on top of the other half of the flange. It is plenty strong! The leg unscrews from the flange as well, so it can be stored elsewhere.
    This way you can remove that floor attachment, and mount the table to your bed, since you've cut it in half.
    This is what I did with the platform for my car camping bed frame, and it is extremely sturdy. Sturdy enough to hold all my weight, so your laptop will be fine! I haven't posted the video yet, with the updated adjustment, but can send you a video/picture, if you'd like.

    Why not use a piano hinge, cut the table in half, mount the hinge and then mount it to the bed.

      Just what i was thinking. But could you mount it to the bed using the same hinges as the popup counter top? Also, have some sort of support on the shelving unit to support the hinged section. I think you are going to be stubbing your toe on the rv table leg flange mounted on the floor. Ooch!

    For that little space between the mattress (in the up position) and the van side you can put a couple rows of netting to hold things like clothes, shoes, bed linens and other "soft" items. Brian (AdventureVanMan) gave me the idea. Super easy to install and will conform to all the odd shape spaces. It will also act as a good insulator. I copied your "Murphy Bed" concept but my bed is only 31 inches so I was able to mount it so that it comes down onto the dinette seats. The table is hinged to the bottom so while the bed is in the up position I have a dinette (and work space). You are doing a great job and I enjoy watching.

    Instead of drilling a bunch of holes in your bed platform, Amazon sells an under mattress pad that is about 3/4" thick. It is a stiff plastic open weave that allows air flow under your mattress and should prevent any mold/mildew growth.

    Drill those holes on your Murphy bed now, if that is memory foam. Any moisture, and you are screwed with memory foam, plus the bed frame will be much lighter if you ventilate it. Or get some of those plastic springs that keep the mattress from being flat on the plywood.

    If your table top was longer just put an strip of wood on the bed and small strip of wood in the cabinet and lay the table top on the strips that way it is easy to remove and store. On your pop top let the installer put the roof racks on so it will be leak proof.

    You could double hinge the table top. Like fold up once. Then fold down. Almost accordian style. That way it can attach to the bottom of the bed frame.

    Mount it after cutting off one third. Smaller third with a hinge facing up. Larger two thirds folded down and fastened into place. Rv mount will still work supporting the larger piece. Table will be long but have a crease. Looks good.

  • @EverydayMama
    @EverydayMama 5 років тому

    I have a table folding idea: cut your table across to make two pieces (pieces don't have to be equal.) then put hinges under table to make it like a drop leaf table. Then you will be able to mount it to your Murphy bed wall bc table will fold up to not hit floor. (Hope my explanation makes sense)

    Maybe use garage door hardware, the wheels and channels... Channels run vertically on bed when it's against wall, with a stop at table height. Wheels run in channel and are mounted to bed side of table so that side can roll up the bed when the other side is lowered down against the bed. Just looked it up, the channels are called tracks.

    Have you considered the thin aluminum channel rail that is used on the outside of trailers to support a little propane stove, or on the inside of VW campervans to support their tables? You can slide them back and forth to make it easier to sit down at the table.

    When are you gonna do the 2 or 3 inch thick insulation? 3 inches thick is the ultimate for hot and cold climates--your ceiling is perfectly set-up for that much insulation. Do keep in mind that you want the insulation (a thin layer) to cover the support beams on the ceiling, not just in between the beams. Just a suggestion...

    What if you nix adding the table and cut your bed in half? Use the bottom (or top, I can’t tell) of your bed as a table? It’s already on a hinge and it’s the large size you’re looking for. You can sew a loop on your mattress to stay up and hook to the ceiling while you use the bottom as your table.

    I'm going to use 1/2 inch insulation silver board, tack it in with clear silicone just a couple of drops here and there to hold it against the Van Wall and then I'm going to Cable tie white lattice where the holes exist in the frame it'll look like a spaceship its lightweight so you use your thickness insulation type and just cover it with white lattice you can still see some of the insulation plus you can just cut the cable ties when you need to access, maybe run wires or something?it's lightweight and takes an hour to put up,

    Looks great. I wonder if you made the table the width of the space between the bed and the shelves and put a piece of wood on the shelves like you have the table sitting on, on the bed, if that would of been a good option. That way, you don't have to worry about legs for the table. Just rest it across the boards. May even include some pins that you could insert to keep it from moving. Could also figure a way to attach it to the underside of the bed somehow, so it's out of site. Might need to turn it sideways for it to fit. Just a thought.
