Whoa I am extremely pleased to hear this is analog! Sounds so ultra rad! How many fold stages? I had literally started off assuming your pedal is digital, because it's tough engineering to do analog wavefolding *and* get the knob control ranges feeling intuitive and easy to the user. I have a TWA Dynamorph, a vicious sounding analog wavefolder fuzz plus envelope animation, and the sound of it does ballpark remind me of your new pedal. But the two are quite different as well, yours stays in sweet spots more easily. The Dynamorph is beyond brutal until dialed back carefully. Another difference: TWA Dynamorph uses multiple *full wave rectifiers* in series, making the wavefolding thresholds not symmetrical on the waveform up and down swings. Even order harmonics emphasis. Your wavefolder sounds more like the symmetrical type, odd harmonics emphasis, round, fat. Both these versions are super useful, two different flavors. Kudos on! Super interested!
I am an electronic musician. I have a wavefolder in my modular synth. But I currently don't have a module to run external audio into the synth. This pedal looks like a great addition to my pedal collection. Being able to run any of my synths, drum machines, and samplers into a wavefolder sounds awesome.
Thanks so much! We certainly agree! And yes, it’s so fun on different instruments, especially drum machines, we have a little demo of that on our own channel. Things get really crazy really fast!
@CosmodioInstruments I just saw the drum machine demo. Wholly crap that's awesome! Instant rave. Yea I think I need this pedal. If you make a future version it would be cool if it had analog or MIDI clock input for the trem. CV control over the knobs would be awesome too.
This channel is gonna make me go broke! Up until 10 minutes ago, watching the preview, I had no idea I was going to need this in my life. Prismatic Cosmos version has got me all tickly inside.
When I first discovered Ryan's channel I thought that "yummy" face he makes when he really likes something was super creepy and it made me slightly uncomfortable but now, Im just excited to see it and the enthusiasm is catching! This is a killer pedal, I remember when I first got the Boss SL-1 this reminds me of that technology.
@@sub-jec-tiv For one who responds to another's admission of former ignorance and latter enlightenment with a question of their humanity I have only this to say; do you know much of humanity?
Yes! The touch sensitivity is really high and it makes it so immediate and fun. I sometimes joke that a wavefolder is "natures envelope filter" because it basically achieves the same effect without even requiring an envelope follower circuit!
Paint me as absolutely interested! RAD sounds, seriously RAD. Want. And for other readers, another analog wavefolder fuzz monster (really obscure) is the TWA Dynamorph, which is astoundingly scifi brutal and hyper animated. There's a ballpark similarly in timbre, but these two pedals use different topologies, and definitely sound different as well. If anyone is a big fuzzy synthy analog wavefolder fan, you'd actually need both. ;)
wave-folding is a classic west coast synth technique, the folding of waveforms, and it's cool to see modular synth functions making their way into pedals
Absolutely. We get a lot of inspiration from the modular world. And as the appetite for weirdness keeps growing in the guitar pedal market, it’s so fun to see these worlds merge. We’re thrilled to be a part of it!
@@EricAndre615 Interesting, I've been eyeballing another fuzz with 5v cv The Dr Freakenstein chop fuzz. There is also Gamechanger Audio who have had some stuff out for awhile.
I'm pretty vanilla. I'd be happy just using the tremolo function of this pedal. I'd also use the distorto filter WTF side, because it's there. But l'd need a safe word.
I really enjoy your Jams Ryan. I'm happy you overcame whatever held you back before. Because if I'm not mistaken I think I remember you avoided playing actual music.
Dino Riders! I still have a VHS tape of the first episode that came with one of the toys. Krulos was the villain leader and was voiced by Frank Welker. Starscream's original voice acter was in that show, too (the snake dude, Rasp). Instead of the name he used on Transformers (Chris Latta) he was listed as Christopher Collins. Just some fun & pointless trivia for showing some love to a nearly forgotten part of our 80s/90s childhood Also, the pedal is amazing!
3:50 That's a nice running joke you have there... I might steal it cause i play two demon speakers together with an engl head so i could call it "the two demon's rig"...😅
I like this idea a lot. Wavefolding essentially is a form of distortion, in many ways a much more extreme one than the clipping overdrives/distortions/fuzzes we're all used to. In some ways the folding and the sound of heavy distortion go hand in hand. BUT I can hear in my head exactly what you mean, something where we activate those additional harmonics while retaining the clarity and dynamic feel of clean guitar. I'm going to think on it and how that would even work. I'll also say that this video mostly focused on higher gain sounds... which is definitely the pedals focus, but there's still a LOT of play in the lower or mid-gain range. Combine that with the voice switch in the right position (which mixes in some of your clean signal) and you can definitely start to achieve some of what you're talking about. I love this question!
These guys are local to me, I have their Pet Yeti and it's the best fuzz / distortion pedal I have. I don't know if I have much use for this one, personally, but it's on my shortlist anyway because it's delightfully weird.
wep i need one and get it true my ping pong delay in stereo! After your first chord i could ear the Pinkfloyd organ going TooDoooDooLoooDooo ToooDoooDoooLoooDooo TooDoooDooLoooDoo
Good intuition, this is very much on track! An octave fuzz is kinda like a very simple one-half-stage wavefolder, folding the signal from the top down. Dedicated wavefolder circuits like ours will fold in both directions, and usually have multiple stages of folding (Gravity Well is a 4-stage wavefolder) to fold peaks over and back multiple times as various gain thresholds are crossed. But the principle is absolutely the same, and you can hear it in the sonic result!
I might buy one pedal a year. Maybe less since I bought my HX Stomp. I'm probably gonna buy this bad chicken because of this review. It's like Dozer, in a box.
Fascinating sounding pedal, sadly at that price (and I'm sure it's worthy of it) I'm going to have to wait 20 years for the Caline copy. Everybody please buy this to create the demand.
Wave folding seems to be very trendy at the moment. I've been seeing quite a few wave folding pedals as of late. It sounds pretty cool, but it's not something you would use all the time. It's more like something you would bust out for a solo or one specific part of a song.
It is analog! I’m the builder for Cosmodio and it’s so nice to finally see these in the wild! Also I’m glad you enjoyed my John Carpenter setting!
I suspected but i didnt want to say for sure without knowing.
Awesome video! You found some super cool tones!
Any chance we'll ever see a simplified version with just the wave folder, set to the low pass position permanently
Much respect! This thing sounds sick!

From the name alone with no knowledge, I'd say an octave fuzz because that circuit folds over the waveform to produce the wild octave sounds.
