I taught guitar til recently. Some students get frighteningly good, some are ok and have fun. Some will never get that good but they love it. For my older students "My hand can't do that"...Ok I'll find a different way for you. Have fun.
I play for mine and my cat's amusement. Its entirely for laughs and to pass the time. I'm fine with not getting measurably better on purpose. I've ordered the Squizzy Bass vi in Antigua. It comes sometime this month.
I’ve plateaued since my second year, forty years ago, when I almost mastered the first six seconds of cat scratch fever. Since then, an endless loop of riff dabble.
Mr 60 cycle hum is the Worlds best Guitar player because he is Sincere and has real fun ( contagious) when plays and Music should be able to lift your spirits and by hearing something you like and realising you can achieve a similar level of skill is real " Magic" ..you are the optimistic fun buddy we all wish we knew. Cool shirts too.
49:26 bass player here who just had this realization about slap, my practice routine had become dominated by practicing slap enough to be good / stay good. And you know what I never ever do in any songs I actually play? Slap.
You make it a shirt, I'll buy it! Lets be honest. If I spend 20 grand or 20 dollars to listen to myself in the bedroom it shouldn't matter. I'm not in it as a career. I'm just doing me.
I started to learn sweep picking and ended up with carpal tunnel. So there's that. I also realized, much like Ryan, that I would never actually use it (and hand numbness sucks), and I was spending time that could be better spent developing techniques that could make me play better *music* (most UA-cam demos - present company excluded :D - would not be good parts for actual songs for anyone but a guitarist to enjoy), and were less likely to cause injury. If you play in bands, you're very rarely shredding if at all (and if you do, your bandmates hate you). Most of it is just playing chords or simple melody lines. And for me, sounding good in that context is the goal, ultimately. Now I'm working on my sight reading and fingerpicking skills. I also don't think we are great judges of ourselves when we're getting better. I don't *feel* like I've improved in, say, the last year. But objectively, I know I could barely play at all without a flatpick and now I'm a pretty good hybrid picker and an okay finger picker. So that's something. If you're playing regularly, you're probably improving slowly but you aren't totally aware of it. Careful with that Dick Dale.
J&D have some history in Australia. They used to make Jade amplifiers and sound reinforcement. In the 70's in Australia, the chances of you having a Jade amp in Australia are fairly high.
Ryan seems like he just stepped out of a 1960's beach movie as the beach combing/ surfer bum guy with a grass shack and a set of bongos. No insult intended, it's just the first thing I always think of when I tune in.
I spent most of my guitar playing life fingerpicking on an acoustic. When i eventually picked up an electric it didn't translate well at all, so i had to learn all new skills. It's fine to be at a place you're comfortable with and not need to improve, but I personally need to find new ways of playing to keep myself interested.
Is it getting better, or do you feel the same? I mostly enjoy the experience, I have a looper and create spontaneous arrangements and solo and jam to them and recently got into pedals so I've really been enjoying sonics and textures and arrangements. But sometimes I bottom out, or get redundant. Right now, I build and fly and keeping yourself open to theory and technique is just that little shock that keeps you fresh. And sinking into an arrangement.
Isn’t it supposed to be about enjoying your playing. I know I’m not the worlds greatest guitar expert layer but I get a kick out of playing and out of recording something, listening back and going wow I actually played that. Getting better/worse isn’t really that important, that said I’m definitely a better player nowadays than I was in the past. Also if you’re interested I just posted a video of me taking my new kit built guitar for its first run so to speak. Which is exactly the kind of thing that keeps me entertained and enjoying my guitar playing.

The SG case is a Savior Equipment "Specialist Covert Single Rifle Case."

@@jordangalash4289 as long as you can play the Seinfeld theme :)

I like Sean Pierce Johnson's playing so much. He is never unnecessarily complicated. Has a great ear.
I’ve got the limited shell pink version of the rascal bass. I love the way it plays and sounds but can’t wait to get a set of flat wounds on it.
The look on Ryan's face when it dawns on him what the Dick Dale plucking resembles... 51:12
I have gone into reserve, 54 years of playing guitar, now reverted back to my childhood

nice headstock aka counterweight. 24 inch scale possibly? May's Red Special is 24 inch/24 fret. It makes for less tension and allows easier bends.

Kyle Bull is perfect for Hardcore and Thrash riffs

What about Brian Fellows?...snl reference, look him up!
Look up the Peters Projection!
Hey Steve, be like Homer and put a cool racing stripe on it...
Congrats on your new bass!

I just want to be intermediate before I die ! 😂
I know I stick to how I play because of the pain in my hands when I play, but I try to get better. I am not the best, just a tryer.
Landon Bailey will never ever get better but still makes guitar comparison videos.
I’m probably underestimating their playing, but Jason and Tia on WCM
I support Steve transitioning; live your truth, bud.
I'd buy that Deco-Guitar and turn it back into a guitar. :T
I had a book that was nothing but the "Patent Wrappers" of Nikola Tesla. Big ol' Coffee Table thing, trés interessant.
Fender short scale basses always look kind of funny to me
@@ReganLay they make me laugh too. They are joyful.
Fender site has the Rascal for $350.
Dick Dale for the win!!!!!!!!!!!!
You should get two guitars and two maps and some glue and have an arts and crafts battle culminating in a rock off! To prove supremacy....
Crack that egg Steve!
I used to be pretty good but now my left hand is partially paralyzed so now I suck.
oh im a garbage player. but boy do i have fun making noise!
@6stringstanger is an Everyman guitarist who has no pretenses but has a ton of fun while demoing gear
I remember Roger Giffin building that (and a couple of others). Check out AG's solid body acoustic if you want to see a really funky headstock.
I'm not getting much better, my gear is tho 😂😂
pizza
Actually It's OK if you completely suck! Have fun and who cares what anyone else thinks, maybe they don't. HHMM?
If you're not doing it for fun why are you doing it? How you're playing doesn't matter.
Because you have to…if not..take up bowling.
Can’t play a Gsus4?
Pick a different song!
😂
My humble 2c: I don't really agree with the title of this video. It's no fun to keep playing the same riffs. Learn intervals and experiment.
@@Smart-Alex have fun.
It worked wonders for THE COMMANDO JOHNNY FUCKIN RAMONE.
